I would buy it, but the $300 off if you trade in a non-cracked iphone 6 or newer is what prevents us from having them. I only want to upgrade her phone because it has a crack (she doesn't care), and I have an S7 to replace. By having a discount we can't access I value the device $300 less and then assume buying it for $1000 is $300 overpriced.

No person in his/ her right mind would pay $1,000.00 for a mobile device. I have loved iPhones ever since the 2G came out and have upgraded every year but decided to skip this year not because money is the issue, but because I'm just not able to justify to myself spending a grand for a new cellphone.
If you keep that device for 2 years and then you trade you iPhone X , it is still a good deal. How much you can trade for any other android 2 year old phones?

How much you pay for cellular service? I guess we must pay it until we die. I really have no way of avoiding it.

I expect Apple to lower their prices next September for the successor of the X by at least $100-200. Now that the demand of the hardcore fans have been met and you can go to most Apple Stores right now, a couple of days before Christmas and walk out with one, I expect the largest drop off of iPhone sales in its history because of the excessive price. Previous iPhones had “legs” that would last well into the spring, but I don’t expect that this time. Apple may have a lot of good things to say about this quarter early next year, but what about after?

You do realize that people have been paying that for years right? AppleCare, insurance, your rate plan etc all add up to more than $1000.

I sold my 7 Plus for $600 and put that towards a 64GB iPhone X and I’m doing Apple’s iPhone Upgrade Program.

Idk what’s the deal with some people’s mentalities. Especially when a 256GB 7 Plus was $969 at launch!
You’re comparing a maxed out iPhone to an iPhone with 64GB that starts at $999.

You can’t compare the price of a 64GB phone to a 256GB phone. Also the iPhone X due to its size is more compareable to an iPhone 8/7/6s/6. The iPhone 7 and previous models were $649 for base storage, the iPhone 8 is $699. So it’s a $300 difference, or $350 if you usually got the 6/6s/7 in previous years.

Obviously if you compare the 7 plus or 8 plus fully maxed out with capacity and AppleCare it’s going to be closer in price. But the people who are saying it costs too much aren’t the ones who had maxed out capacity iPhone 7 Plus and are switching.

I bought an iPhone 8 Plus because the X didn't speak to me. Especially after playing with one for an a few days.

I'll wait to see some official sales numbers when apple releases their financials for the quarter. Maybe the 8 and 8 plus sold better then most people originally thought..

So someone like you, who is spending $800 on a phone every year is totaly sane, but its out of ones mind to spend $1000 on a phone that one plans to keep for two to three years?

Jobs dissed larger phones, and Cook explicitly claimed to have found the right size at 4".

If you're always going to jump to Apple's defense, then first at least go learn Apple's history of reversals. They love to diss anything that they don't sell themselves... YET :)

I hate to break it to you but Jobs always did this. He had so much stature in tech that if he started dissing a product, development and investment would become suspect or dry up. He was ‘negging’. It would invariably mean he had Apple working on that same product. It would reset the landscape and gave Apple a head start.

If it doesn’t meet targets they will probably introduce alternatives with similar feature sets next year for the more budget conscious, however I can’t see the top end price tags reducing. Personally I’m enjoying my X and am looking forward to my new Apple Tv 4K on Monday :)

Face ID is better than Touch ID. If you can't afford the phone and never used Face ID, how can you make a comment on it?

Wrong. Apple does offer the choice of Touch ID with the iPhone 8, which Will likely see four or five years of iOS support. So you do have options in the iPhone lineup currently supporting both forms of biometric security.
I would agree with you, but if he were to say Apple jacked the headphone jack and Apple's new line up eliminated that choice he would be correct. Just saying, for all those who despise the demise of the headphone jack.

From plenty of histories, we know that Jobs actually believed much of what he said. It usually took others at Apple to change his mind. Which he often eventually would do, to his credit.

OTOH, it's easy to believe that whenever Cook talks, he's simply trying to throw others off the scent. That guy specializes in handwaving and giving half truths to hide other full truths. Gotta admire his talent at it!

This is Tim's apple. Remember that everyone! Long gone are the Apple of yesteryears that we all knew and loved. It was good while it lasted I guess. Too bad liberal Timmy is too busy spending his time mingling in governmental issues when he should be looking at his company instead of sailing on the coattails of the legacy that his predecessor left behind. Such a sad story. Google will be the new Apple everyone. Mark my words.

why not offer us Touch ID?

You still don't get it. You honestly think someone here will have an answer for you on that? Perhaps your question is best directed to somebody at Apple. You can ponder ideations all you want, but it doesn't change the reality of Face ID status.

Regardless, that's not Apples choice in the matter, they chose Face ID as their future and they made that clear. So you're at the junction in the road where you either choose to accept Face ID or shun it all together and move to another competitor that offers a fingerprint sensor.

I'm not surprised by this. It was too easy for me to get this phone in November. I love the phone and the Face ID works surprisingly well for me. Is it perfect? No...but it beats my 6s, which now I know was throttled. No wonder it was so slow :( .

Sources in the semiconductor packaging and testing service industry claim that pre-orders for the iPhone X are not as strong as expected in some markets, such as the U.S., Taiwan, and Singapore, although supply remains tight in other markets including Japan (via DigiTimes).

In contrast, Apple Watch sales are said to have been impressive across the board, with shipment estimates reaching 27 million units, which is higher than an earlier forecast putting the number around 23 to 25 million units.

iPhone X shipments are expected to reach 30-35 million units in the fourth quarter of 2017 and level out or dip slightly going into next year, according to the same sources from the upstream supply chain.

Today's report casts a different light on steady improvements in iPhone X supplies which have seen shipping estimates fall to 1 to 2 weeks in several countries. According to KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who frequently shares accurate information from Apple's supply chain, the supply increase is due to better-than-expected improvements in production since the device's launch, rather than weakening demand.

As a result of the improved production, Kuo believes iPhone X shipments in the fourth calendar quarter could be higher than previous estimates, although he too expects the acceleration to cause shipments in the first quarter of 2018 to be flat or slightly lower compared to the fourth quarter.

Apple is rumored to be launching a trio of new iPhone models in 2018, including 5.8-inch and 6.5-inch models with OLED displays and a 6.1-inch model with an LCD display.

This is just one of many cracks to recently show up in Apple's foundation. It won't happen fast, but Cook and crew are going to kill the company.

Politics aside, I have moved to the Google universe after ten years with iOS. Could not be happier.
