I was sceptic of Face ID too but it works fairly good, while Touch ID would be an extra step after raising your phone -> more effort. I would have liked both to choose or combine but you know Apple.
Face ID does take measurably longer than Touch ID, often a second or two, and there are situations when it doesn’t work (like when the phone isn’t close to parallel to your face, when in landscape mode or when you’re lying on your side). But there’s also situations where touch ID doesn’t work and there’s a lot of instances when Face ID does work when you wouldn’t expect it: while chewing, with a toothbrush in your mouth, with your chin on your hand, waking up like a mess after a night of drinking etc.
I‘m sure future os updates will work on speed. All in all, when you try Face ID, it just works and might be more effortless than Touch ID. I‘m also excited for future updates changing your phone since UI design makes up most of the device.
I’m expecting significant debugging of iOS from Apple because I run into bugs and UI fails every day on two high-end devices, an iPad Pro 10.5 ans iPhone X. That just can’t be. Apples software quality has degraded significantly in past years and that’s what angers me
Most.
iPhone X is a great and solid device from another league so that might somewhat justify the price if you regard the phone as your main computer which you use for several years. I‘m pissed for spending $1,400 for the 64gigs Version in Germany but then again I skipped the whole 6/7/8 design because I found those phones ugly and have waited since then for this phone - and it is amazing but with that pricing, I sure won’t replace it for another 4 years. So Apple, decide if that’s the way where you want your consumers to go. Expecting the usual 1/2 years replacement cycle with that hardware would be decadent.
