The blind faith is amazing in the thread. Apple can never do anything wrong, and everything they do is best for the end user....

According to people who would actually know, who work at Apple.
You mean the same people that said that we didn't need a phone bigger than 4"? Or the same people that said that Wireless (inductive) charging is pointless?

Yup, their statements are always accurate and true.

I guess you would if you’ve ever worked in product development, and knew that going from a locked design to volume production of tens of millions of units in less than a year is damn near impossible—yet Apple pulls it off every year.
Didn't apple remove a bunch of health features from the original AW last minute?

Most people live through financing so they don't see it as a 1000 dollar purchase. They simply see a few more dollars per month.

Consumers debt is never a good thing. Debt is debt no.matter how you slice the pie.

Only reasonable things for people to take debt on is education and housing. I don't even want take debt on car (well if I.have the means to do so). Taking on debt for education will help someone improve and making more money later on. Taking a mortgage on house will increase ones wealth and property value generally goes up.

Taking on debt for entertainment and other consumable stuff is never a good thing. We are living at the age where everyone is riddled with debt. This is never a good thing.

Don't buy stuff that goes beyond your ability to pay should be common sense.

I would never take a loan or financing my phone or computer or tablet or whatever. I would buy the iPhone that I can afford. I will buy cheaper Android phone if that is only thing I can afford.

The headline contradicts the article. The headline states “Report Claims iPhone X Sales Not as Strong as Expected in the U.S.”

But according to what’s written, the headline should read “Report Claims iPhone X Pre-orders Not as Strong as Expected in the U.S.”

Either the headline or the article text needs to be corrected.

You do realize that people have been paying that for years right? AppleCare, insurance, your rate plan etc all add up to more than $1000.

I sold my 7 Plus for $600 and put that towards a 64GB iPhone X and I’m doing Apple’s iPhone Upgrade Program.

Idk what’s the deal with some people’s mentalities. Especially when a 256GB 7 Plus was $969 at launch!

Where's the surprise? People that are willing to pay the Apple tax for 256GB are not going to blink when asked to pay over $1000 for a iPhone with 64GB of storage.

Even if it were $700, the iPhone X doesn't offer anything over the competition. People who are buying this just want the newest Apple product who probably also sport the Apple watch and Airpods .

All the normies who are used to iOS would just get the iPhone 8.

You’re making stuff up.

Nobody (at Apple) ever said we didn't need a phone bigger than 4".

Nobody (at Apple) said wireless (inductive) charging is pointless.

And Apple removed AW health features at the last minute?

So taking an interest free loan and paying the phone off over 12 installments is a bad idea because you’re in debt? First your context needs to be clear. If you’re 50k in debt then yes, it’s a poor choice to add more. If you take care of your debt on a monthly basis then a $1000 phone interest free is someone else’s upfront money. You do realize that debt also builds CREDIT, which in turn is every bit as important as liquid assests in today’s world. It’s not a bad money move to take an interest free loan if you have the money to pay for it.

Weren't there reports saying this quarter will be Apple's best-selling iPhone quarter ever? Over 80 million units?

If they do happen to sell that many... if will disprove two myths:

1. No one will pay $1,000 for a phone (iPhone X)
2. No one wants an old tired design (iPhone 8)

So I don't know what to expect. Next month's earning call will certainly be interesting.

I would not be surprised at all. The official price in (EU) country I live is ~1600USD for 256G (which is the only reasonable memory size for IPX). I don't think this is justifiable for 95+% of cellphone users regardless they have $ for it or don't

I'm waiting for the actual numbers for the first quarter and the estimates for the second quarter that Apple will give in just over a month. My personal guess is revenue will be at the upper end of the previous guidance while unit sales will show minimal (less than 10%) growth when compared to Q1 2017. I think the second quarter guidance will be significantly lower as the sales of the iPhone X sink now that the initial demand has been met. It will be very interesting to compare Q2 2018 guidance with Q2 2015 actual numbers since that would be comparing the supercycles after major design revisions.

If one is happy with one biometric and then it is replaced with another without choice. If you are not happy with it, as a result - does not mean you are a hater.

It wasn't replaced without choice?

Apple currently has 300 variants of the iPhone available in their stores.
Out of that 300 only 20 variants do not have Touch ID.

Lots of choices. Not to mention Face ID wasn't sprung upon us.

The 8 series is very close to having the same hardware as the X.

I was excited to see touch ID go by the wayside in the X.

All the talk about FACE ID is probably a result of the notch not being that big of a deal.

I was sceptic of Face ID too but it works fairly good, while Touch ID would be an extra step after raising your phone -> more effort. I would have liked both to choose or combine but you know Apple.

Face ID does take measurably longer than Touch ID, often a second or two, and there are situations when it doesn’t work (like when the phone isn’t close to parallel to your face, when in landscape mode or when you’re lying on your side). But there’s also situations where touch ID doesn’t work and there’s a lot of instances when Face ID does work when you wouldn’t expect it: while chewing, with a toothbrush in your mouth, with your chin on your hand, waking up like a mess after a night of drinking etc.

I‘m sure future os updates will work on speed. All in all, when you try Face ID, it just works and might be more effortless than Touch ID. I‘m also excited for future updates changing your phone since UI design makes up most of the device.

I’m expecting significant debugging of iOS from Apple because I run into bugs and UI fails every day on two high-end devices, an iPad Pro 10.5 ans iPhone X. That just can’t be. Apples software quality has degraded significantly in past years and that’s what angers me
Most.

iPhone X is a great and solid device from another league so that might somewhat justify the price if you regard the phone as your main computer which you use for several years. I‘m pissed for spending $1,400 for the 64gigs Version in Germany but then again I skipped the whole 6/7/8 design because I found those phones ugly and have waited since then for this phone - and it is amazing but with that pricing, I sure won’t replace it for another 4 years. So Apple, decide if that’s the way where you want your consumers to go. Expecting the usual 1/2 years replacement cycle with that hardware would be decadent.

I was paraphrasing, but here you go:

Phil Schiller said:
"Having to create another device you have to plug into the wall is actually, for most situations, more complicated"

I have one, and I find that it works maybe 80% of the time, where as TouchID was almost perfect.

This is great anecdote. Got numbers behind this? I'm still on the 6s (trying to break the new every 2 habit), and my anecdotal data says my TouchID is nowhere near perfect. Especially when I have to put my gloves on :)

No person in his/ her right mind would pay $1,000.00 for a mobile device. I have loved iPhones ever since the 2G came out and have upgraded every year but decided to skip this year not because money is the issue, but because I'm just not able to justify to myself spending a grand for a new cellphone.

That’s like saying no right person in their right mind would pay $130,000 for a Porsche 911 maxes out config, or a car even more expensive. The thing is for some people, the more money they have the more expensive things they just buy.

Wrong. Not with iPhone X. We asked for all screen with Touch ID and they failed miserably.
Oh I wanted a bendable phone. Too bad Apple couldn’t make one with high reliability using currently available technology.
Apple is doomed!

Even without gloves, touchID is around 80% perfect for me when I’m in a hurry. In normal times, maybe 96/98%.
I have a 6.

Don’t ever stick your hand in my wallet. Your statement is arrogant. I’ll buy whatever the hell I choose to.

You don’t screw, finance or feed me so you dont to comment on what I spend my money on.

Wrong. Thanks for that blanket statement though since you think you are the voice for every iPhone user. Try not to go deaf in your echo chamber.

This. Besides the logic-defying statement in the story itself. Fake news.

Jobs was wrong, people did buy them! Did you think he was perfect? He was wrong plenty!

But that’s not evidence of Apple being untruthful.

And the context of Schiller’s quote was iPhone charging. But now that Apple has (soon) three devices that can charge wirelessly, it’s not more complicated. It’s easier.

Also, you left out a key part of what Schiller said. He also said wireless charging systems still have to be plugged into the wall, so it’s not clear how much convenience they add. (Again, this was in the context of iphone charging only.)

Now that Apple is going to have three wireless charging devices, it’s quite clear how much convenience they add.

Jobs can be wrong about his opinion on whether large phones would sell well—like you’re wrong about Apple failing at TouchID underscreen and having to use FaceID instead. That does mean he (or you) is being untruthful or lying, or being deceitful. It just means the opinion is wrong.
