The iPhone X is in a weird position. It has the "best" tech for an iPhone but it's not as "complete" as the iPhone 8 Plus. Face ID is great. Loved it on my X but I went back to my 8 Plus because I used my iPhone in landscape mode so much. No landscape mode was something I couldn't look past. Touch ID is great but it has its weaknesses (few) just as Face ID. But Apple has the 8, 8 Plus, and X which are all within a few features of each other. Add the 7 and 7 Plus to the mix and you'll see that customers have so much choice to get a really great iPhone at great prices. But I think sales of the X are just fine (when looked at with the 8 and 8 Plus).

The iPhone super cycle will actually be in 2018 and 2019 when so many more customers are upgrading from the 7 and 8 (and X) series to the next series of iPhones.

My ego is gonna pop in here. I consider myself a early adopter. Having the X I can self certify it’s FAR too advanced for most consumers. Apple has 30 years of experience marketing “ahead of the curve” products - the X qualifies. The general market is not ready for no home button yet. Period. Steve Jobs told me last night. ;).

No person in his/ her right mind would pay $1,000.00 for a mobile device. I have loved iPhones ever since the 2G came out and have upgraded every year but decided to skip this year not because money is the issue, but because I'm just not able to justify to myself spending a grand for a new cellphone.

I see your point clearly and I’m on board with your thinking for sure. That being said it’s not longer a cell phone.

I guess I'm out of my mind. I'm also enjoying this phone more than any other iPhone I've previously owned. Gosh, I'm just so darned crazy. I'm also hating these gorgeous pics and vids I'm taking this holiday season of my friends and family. I'm just a huge sucker.

lol failed? I'm curious what you'll say IF the Samsung Galaxy S9 does not come with their fingerprint reader under the screen? Hmm.

Such as when you're paralized in your arms and hands! Touch ID is pretty much useless for you then!
I'm curious if that "Quadfather" (coder featured in Apple's Accessibility videos back in May 2017) has a passcode on his iPhone or if he's upgraded to the X and with FaceID now has a passcode on his iphone? This would be one GREAT area and argument where Touch ID in itself fails some users of a specific demographic.

I wish you would make up your mind:
Either hate the iPhone X outright,
Hate the iPhone X because it's price,
Hate the iPhone X because of no TouchID but praise it for having edge to edge screen. Make up your mind lol.
Face ID is much better this time of year when I often have gloves on.

I suppose. Oh well. I’m happy with my iPhone X and the fact that my old iPhones always hold a great resale value which offsets the price of whatever new iPhone is out.

$999 + $199 AppleCare spread over 24 months for a device that I use and carry with me all day every is worth it.

Sure it’s a couple hundred dollars more, but for me the quality and ease of use are worth it. Shout out to everyone boycotting it and everyone who sticks to their guns though. :)

Great value in the iPhone X I'm sure for most people. For me right now I'm VERY happy with my iPhone 7! I'm praying I don't have to upgrade prematurely as my son tends to "drop" or "break" his phone upon seasonal upgrade time (late December or early October after announcements). We're (him and myself) are an Apple family!

My kind of family! Haha

7 is an awesome phone. I loved my Plus.

I like the iPhone X, it’s a great device and easily one of the best smartphones ever created.

But the £1000/$1000 is insane. Let’s be honest, from a purely hardware standpoint it’s pretty close to a Samsung Galaxy S8 which is almost half the price. Apple has gone too far in their price gouging for this customer. I’ll see what is on offer in 2018, but I expect I won’t be getting an OLED iPhone. This isn’t that I can’t afford it, I actually bought one. It’s just far too expensive for what it is, plus the British rip off pricing is obscene.

Well most folks do financing so your not paying 1000.00 up front. Also the support is worth it as well. When’s the last time you could go to the Samsung store if your phone was having hardware issues?

Also the NOTE 8 is the same price as the iPhone X with minor changes.

If you don’t like the price then don’t buy it but it will sell regardless. I personally am suprised it wasn’t priced higher.

It's not because of the notch, or Face ID, or price. Alot of it is based on smartphone fatigue.

From 2007-2013, alot of consumers were getting their first smartphone. It was an era that could still wow us every single year. Then the mass population started realizing how much power do you really need just to check YouTube or social media and snap photos once in awhile?

The smartphone craze is waning. If you had a iPhone X, Note8, Pixel 2 XL, you end up getting bored with ALL OF THEM. Market is saturated as is. There is probably alot of gadgets we have whether an iPad, an old smartphone, or video game system that is just collecting dust.

Smartphone fatigue. One of my oldest phones which is a Xiaomi from 3.5 years ago still works perfectly. Still silky smooth and battery life holds up fairly well with maybe 20% degradation. If it had a microSD slot, I could use it as my daily driver if I wanted to.

Same ol', same ol' every year. New design or not, it just gets boring. Nothing wows us anymore like it did earlier in this decade.

You do realize that people have been paying that for years right? AppleCare, insurance, your rate plan etc all add up to more than $1000.

Sure, you can always add up your car payment, or even your house purchase to make it even higher! We were talking about the base price of a model’s lowest configuration, please, don’t constantly tweak the topic during arguing, for nothing but ONLY the sake of winning the arguing.

Also the NOTE 8 is the same price as the iPhone X with minor changes.

That’s exactly why Note 8 is not a good deal, either. HARD-EARNED money should never be cheated away like that!

Hey, at least, Note 8 has a pen come with it, which if you buy from Apple, it’s another $150.

Will the X also be subject to throttling? My guess is yes?

Note 8 is not the same price as the iPhone X
$800 v $1000
In the UK the difference is greater
£785 v £1000. Inc 20% tax
In the UK Apple have their own rip off change rate $/£

I agree regarding the gloves and I would add that I have had far more instances of Touch ID failing because the sensor was dirty or my hands were not completely dry than I’ve had with Face ID.

Like the iPad „Pro“. I guess Apple was fully aware that people wouldnt buy as many high end tablets anymore so they gonna charge more for those people who do buy it to basically level it out

So true. Unit sales are down and Cook is increasing pieces to maintain profits.

Wrong. Not with iPhone X. We asked for all screen with Touch ID and they failed miserably.
Who’s we? There’s also “we” who asked for something better (in our opinion) and are perfectly happy with Face ID and wouldn’t be using an all-screen Touch ID.
I understand that you aren’t happy with Apples design choice here, and you are entitled to your own opinion. Just don’t confuse it with fact.

I agree with this general statement. They weren’t ready for the original iPhone either, which was similarly expensive. I believe this is part of the reason for releasing the 8 series at the same time.

I agree. Furthermore, I see zero point in having a Touch ID sensor embedded in the display. For what purpose? People complain about having the little bar at the bottom of the iPhone X display as it is and I can’t imagine how much more people would complain about a much larger virtual home button sitting there instead. The home button was removed precisely to offer a screen without interruption at the bottom.

Fair point. The iPhone X is the most significant redesign though with the elimination of the home button. Definitely the most interesting iPhone since the 6 plus, IMO.

We will see how much Apple "screwed up" during their next quarterly report, which will be an all time record quarter even at the lower end of the guidance (it will go well beyond the higher end though).
[doublepost=1513943440][/doublepost]

I don't think Apple will breakdown the numbers by model when they announce quarter results. With carriers doing buy one get one offers. I am sure the total number of iPhones will be a monster. But specific number of X sold, not so sure.

I think the price, faceID and notch are the top reasons if X numbers internally are not in line. They were scared of X not being easily accepted. Hence they released 8 to meet the quarter numbers. Again it's my opinion. 8 is a great phone.

Yup. Russians wrote this article.

huh? millions and millions have so no you are obviously dead wrong here.

I was planning to buy 2 new phones from Apple, as the wife and I have 6 and 6+.

Then the X and 8 series both came along. We passed on 8 because X looked better, but by the time X launched and we got a look at things, it didn't look so enticing. But neither did 8 because of X, which sounds odd.

We just decided to skip another year.

There’s no winning this argument Lol. People are either ok with the price or they’re not. Yes the base price for the iPhone X is Apple’s most expensive phone ever, but to me that’s ok.

Been using it since November 3rd and it’s been damn near flawless for me. Of course I want a less expensive phone, but Apple has always been known for their prices. They’re a business first and foremost.

Apple justifies the price by saying “well we do have phones that start at $350”. Kind of a crappy justification because of course most people want the latest and greatest.

But hey idk. Face ID, the front and rear camera system, the display, the gestures, the design, the fact that I got $600 for my old phone and am financing this one... I don’t feel that $1000+ burden.

Working only 80% of the time is exactly the failure mode you could expect with mis-aligned or otherwise out-of-spec hardware. Precision alignment is essential for proper operation. Your phone is not operating properly.

There’s nothing software related that would cause a 20% failure rate. You have the same software as tens of millions of others who are not having problems.

Why would you think others on a forum having the same problem is evidence of it not being a hardware problem?
So what will be your response when the next release of iOS 11 has within the change log:
* Enhancements for FaceID to improve face detection

We go through this scenario constantly. SOME people experience issues with a particular aspect of an Apple product and the responses of those NOT experiencing the issue include, "you're doing it wrong", "you're just overly sensitive", "it's a hardware defect", "you're making it up".

But then Apple releases an update to iOS that addresses the issue and the response from those same people is *crickets* (never acknowledging that it was a legitimate issue from the beginning)

Anyone who has owned technology for any amount of time should know that different people have different experiences, even with identical hardware/software that aren't due to hardware defects.

I know, right?!? It's the marketing. When a movie comes out, and it's being marketed, you want so badly to go see it. You skip. It comes out on streaming and you've lost interest.
