It is now, but it wasn't when it was released. That is the priced the 13 mini at the same price the 12 mini was when both were released.
Got it. So in order to be fair, we need to disregard the period when it is the most affordable. To the chopping block!

As someone that loves the form factor of the 13 mini and is also owner of such an iPhone, it seems that this means I need to hold on to that phone longer, until the SE will get the 13 mini design. Hopefully...

So perhaps Apple is just not reading the market correctly or the market is telling them that they should focus on 2 or maybe 3 models and leave it at that.

Probably a bit of both. Apple is clearly testing the waters with these models and probably haven’t had as much success as they were hoping for. On the other hand Apple is in a bit of a different position from other manufacturers in that they traditionally like to keep slim product lines. If Apple was more like Samsung they’d probably keep the mini and plus models around even if they aren’t the biggest sellers. And you don’t hear Samsung fans worrying that one specific model or another is a disaster because it doesn’t sell as much as their top products. I can see Apple gradually becoming more like that, or not, who knows.

The 14 Pro is a beast. Great battery life. Don’t like the upgraded camera setup though, the 11 Pro pics were somehow better imo. Gonna skip the 15 Pro because of ‘meh’. Looking forward to the 16 Pro or Ultra and new AW Ultra in 2024 ✨

Battery life would be the only reason I'd chose the plus over mini. The smaller form factor is so much more convenient for a smartphone.

If we ever have the batter tech that can get a mini smartphone through a full day on one charge no matter how hard you use it I hope they bring it back because I'd go that route for sure.

I’ve never seen a iPhone mini in the wild, everyone has big huge Androids or iPhones, seems like it’s a vocal minority here who like small phones with cramped screens.

🤗

You have too much faith in Apple.
Yeah, the Pro models out earning the standard ones means that we are probably going to see less attention put into them. Even looking at the discourse around the 14 it’s often easy to forget that the non-pro model exists.

I need to admit that Apple's marketing and move on "offering less on the base iPhone to upsell you to a pro" worked, especially with the 14 now even having the same chipset as the previous generation and just small increments in features.

I really anticipate on Apple on doubling down on that and make the pro the secret base iPhone to get...

Just think how good the next iPhone mini be if they remove the lightning port and the lower speaker (not going to miss the stereo) and boast the battery life.

Apple's iPhone 14 Plus appears to be selling better than the iPhone 13 mini it effectively replaced in the company's flagship lineup, based on display panel shipment data provided by Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC).

According to the DSCC report, which compares iPhone panel shipment data from June 2022 through April 2023 (allocating a two-month forecast), shipments for the 6.7-inch iPhone 14 Plus are 59% higher than they were for the 5.4-inch iPhone 13 mini over the equivalent period year-on-year.

That's despite evidence suggesting that the iPhone 14 Plus is the least popular model in the current series.

Although the iPhone 14 Plus appears to be doing a lot better than the iPhone 13 mini, it's far behind the iPhone 14 Pro Max, which takes a 36% share of overall panel shipments for the series. The iPhone 14 Pro accounts for 28% of shipments, while the iPhone 14 takes a 25% share. The iPhone 14 Plus meanwhile languishes behind the others with a 11% share.

Overall, the iPhone 14 series looks to be marginally more popular than the previous series, with a 2% increase in the number of year-on-year panel shipments as of April, apparently buoyed by increased sales of the more expensive Pro models at the cost of fewer standard iPhone 14 models being sold.

Taking into account potential stockpiling and shipment lags, monthly panel shipment numbers are unlikely to mirror the exact same number of iPhone units being sold in any given month. Nevertheless, the combined numbers for the 11-month period provide a likely accurate overall picture of sales.

Not where I live (Japan).
12 13 SE and Mini are all above the 14 pro base model which is above the plus, pro max and vanilla 14.

Or, what if they keep the 13 Mini around in September instead of retiring it? How? Allow the 13 to drop off instead of moving down into the $599 slot, and just leave the 13 Mini there as is. Maybe even remove the 13 designation from the Mini too, signaling its new place as a “generation-less” product.

That not only keeps a Mini for the niche that buys it (just like the iPad Mini and Mac Mini are now permanent fixtures with lengthy update cycles because that’s all the market requires of them), but also rids the lineup of the overlap between the 13 and 14 which have very similar specs including the same processor, with the $100 price gap no-doubt costing Apple margin in cannibalization from the cheaper product.
Yeah, this also makes sense. A return of the mini form factor several years down the line, likely upgrading the internals only. No doubt they'll find a way to up the price in the process.

And while I'm not one for throwing money away, I don't mind paying for a form factor I want, even if one could make the argument that I'm overpaying for "less".

This is panels shipped, not phones sold. iPhone 14 Plus owners could be very clumsy and drop their phones more often, generating demand for replacement panels.

The fact is most people don't want tiny phones. You might see people confessing their love of their Minis on here or someother sites but that's a very vocal minority and out there in the real world people want 6-7" phones. Not silly little 5.4" toy phones.

I have a 6.7" iPhone and feel that's too small for me. I'd be happy if Apple made a 7.1-7.3" model.
I have an iPhone 13 mini. Love it. The size and weight are perfect. Being able to use it one-handed comfortably is so awesome! But having a larger screen for watching media or playing games is always nice hence why I have an iPad.

Because as everyone knows, what’s popular is what’s right. [eyeroll]

Hopefully Apple soon gets another product leader with clarity to bring what’s actually right to the market again.

So just get an iPad and stop ruining phones for the rest of us.
