There are now five iPhone12,* postings up on Geekbench.

NONE are reporting true 4 GB DRAM !

All are in the 3.7 GB - 3.8 GB range.

That's the same as last year's XS & XS Max.

6 GB DRAM iPhones are a Pipe Dream, nothing more ! ... I won't believe it till I see it (confirmed) !
They have 4 in most iPads. Can’t image 6 on iPhone

ksec's references within Xcode already confirm that they have only 4 GB RAM. (As do the multiple Geekbench records.)

It’s funny and a little revealing how most of the posts I’ve seen in this thread have to do with storage capacity, not RAM, even though the article has nothing to do with storage capacity. I’d wager my soon-to-be-purchased 11 Pro that nearly no one would be able to detect the difference between an 11 Pro with 4GB vs 6GB RAM in real world use cases. Of course that won’t stop either the side-by-side comparison YouTubers or the people raring to be up in arms about the differences they find.
You won't be able to test it since it won't have 6 GB.

I believe the next gen iPad Pros will get 6 across the board. They're overdue, considering they've had 4 GB since 2015. Furthermore, some of them are gonna need it once iPadOS goes live and more of the big apps arrive.

People have been whining about Apple's iPhone memory pricing since there have been iPhones. Again, if you can get by with 64 GB purchase the base unit. If you need more memory, simply purchase it.

If you need the extra memory and can't afford it, vote with your wallet and buy a Samsung.

It's really simple.

The other option is whine, thinking Apple will change their upgrade structure. Good luck with that.

because iphone memory pricing has been that bad for years. literally dragging 16gb base for the longest time out of every brand.

i agree you should vote with your wallet, but do you think apple is happy losing customers to android?
Memory is not storage. Storage is not memory. I’m beginning to think MR should post this reminder at the beginning of any thread having to do with either.

or hold onto my X, or wait for refurb 11 to go on sale, why stop there? i don't like apple's memory policies, does that disqualify me from saying tim apple nickel and diming customers on memory?

Absolutely not. But if I felt as strongly as you about the memory situation, I'd switch brands and find happiness feeling good knowing I didn't let a company nickel and dime me.

iOS on iPhones doesn't do split window multitasking nor background multitasking so more DRAM won't benefit like on desktop OS, ChromeOS, Android, etc. The only benefits are caching apps in memory so they don't reload (see YouTube video below) and future proofing which is unexpected from Apple since they profit from people upgrading more frequently.

Kinda looking like 6!

i do feel strongly about it, but to change to samsung would disrupt my workflow since i'm tied into the apple eco system.

again, this nickel and diming on storage is a inconvenience, its like your rent keep getting higher. your basically telling someone to move if they dont like the rent increase.

Why is this piece of information (amount of RAM) not provided during the keynote? Why is it kept secret? It is a spec of the product so why is it not indicated like the storage size, chip name and number etc? Very strange and non-transparent way of marketing a new product.

Because Apple aren’t market leaders in this area, they’re not in many or indeed most areas now (slow to adopt OLED, waterproofing, cameras beaten by Huawei etc etc). I’d say the competition is even catching up fast on looks.

People always say iOS is more efficient so it doesn’t need as much, but I don’t know where that comes from; if it’s proven or just an assumption. I’ve seen demonstrations that show Apple falling behind in keeping stuff in memory compared to the 8 GB phones, which is not surprising when compared with a 4 GB device.

I sympathise with your dilemma. Is this an employment based workflow that is virtually impossible to untie yourself from or is it a personal one which has crept up over time as additional products were purchased? If personal, likely you have made a somewhat substantial financial commitment in becoming tied to the ecosystem. As you are undoubtedly aware, you could slowly untie yourself over time or do what others have done (with a financial hit) and pull off the bandaid quickly all at once. As you have probably read in the "Are you abandoning ship" thread, a few posters switched everything at once and then did not allow for a fair transition period, got frustrated and at great expense came running back to the Apple ecosystem after less than one month.

I hope we are wrong concerning his health but it did look like something was wrong other than sheer embarrassment for what he was having to say and present.

I reckon you have to sell your soul to be an exec at Apple these days, so those that had one (not Tim) might be struggling to cope with that.

Over the years and many iPhone I've had no idea how much RAM was inside. And they all have worked great. It's something I don't give two trucks about.

Tell that to all the iPhone 6, 5S, 5C and 5 owners. Four generations of iPhones stuck on 1GB DRAM with constant app reloads and early obsolescence while the competition had double the DRAM or more.

There's no need to switch everything all at once, and you shouldn't even want to. "Ecosystems" are massively overrated these days. Good products should be able to stand on their own.

I have an Apple iPad, an Amazon echo, a OnePlus phone, a Samsung watch, a Bose waterproof speaker, a Sony soundbar, an LG TV... etc... and they all work together just fine. No need to be a brand freak.

Random question, but does anyone know if the iPhone 11Pros purchased on the iPhone upgrade program are world phones or are some stuck on GSM?

I do recall the Xs and Xs Max being able to work on all networks, but my X is only on ATT and TMobile since I got it for ATT.
In my experience, only the "unlocked, SIM free" phone is whitelisted on both VZW and Sprint.

Example: I ordered a 6S ATT version on launch weekend. I did my research, it had the CDMA radio and GSM.

But when I took the IMEI off the box and put it into VZW's website, not whitelisted, which meant it would not provision an unprovisioned VZW SIM card.

Since I wanted the freedom to switch to VZW at some point, I handed it back to the Apple store employee and went home and ordered the VZW version (SIM free wasn't available for a few more weeks).

If you can get the "Sim free" phone, it will be whitelisted for VZW and Sprint.

ATT / T-Mobile don't do whitelisting, it's good as long as it has GSM radios, which all iPhone versions have had going back to the 6 or perhaps earlier.

its both haha,

we do airdrop at work and use imessage for group chat, along with couple other nuances that i'm spacing out on. i work in a law firm so having imessage encryption is a nice benefit. plus osx makes indexing easier than microsoft office in certain format.

as for personal i switched to s6 during law school for a year and it was very frustrating not knowing where everything was. i'll say samsung have made huge improvement in the software but i just don't have the time to adjust. however currently i have 2 mbp, a mac pro, ipad, and airpods with applewatch, so i'm pretty tied into the eco system. and not being able to see imessage both on phone and on my mac would be a pretty big draw back for me.

i will most likely upgrade to the 11, just waiting on that verizon deal coming along, but that doesn't mean i'll be happy paying 50 bucks more for 6 bucks worth of storage haha

Lol Apple hates 5.

iPhone 5 got replaced.
5MP front camera only existed in 6s/+.
5GB RAM skipped.
Watch Series 5 only minor upgrade.

What is so Pro about 64GB of storage? People are not talking about this. Why?
There is nothing "pro" about any of the phones. It is a word gimmick that will convince people they will get something better, when it is just like any other phone.
