Really depends on the kind of usage. My mom will be fine with her 64 GB iPhone 8 for years to come.

64 GB IMHO is the perfect size currently for the entry level storage tier, so I'm really glad they made it that across the line. Didn't expect the iPhone 8 to both stay at 64 GB base and still go as low as 449 $.
yes i agree 64gb is fine for most cases, but shooting 4k 60hz w/ super hdr. its gonna eat up memory very fast.

if your mom's iphone 8 shoots the the res and frame as the 11. she will no doubt needing more space.

again 4k 60hz super hdr doubles the memory size by 2x.

Nobody cares. IF you can get by with 64GB, purchase the base model. If you can't, PAY Apple for the extra memory. Insisting Apple give you free stuff is astonishing (and if it were me, I'd be embarrassed).

If you can't afford Apple's phone, vote with your wallet and purchase one from another company.

Easy.
Well, considering Samsung gives you 256GB of storage in their top tier phone at the same $1099 as the iPhone 11 Pro Max (that's a mouthful) it's not unreasonable for people to feel a little ripped off. One has to give Apple an extra $150 to get the same 256GB.

So you're not going to provide any? BTW, you're not the only one who codes here, so stop with the "I code so you should believe me" crap. It's not going to fly.

Sorry, I said high-end powerful Apps. Ones that utilize the speed of the processor. Of course, this is exactly what I expected which is why I specifically named the types of Apps in my post. Yet you still ignored it.

Face it, nobody has the balls to actually run these tests because they know what the results will be.

Let's see if you can even run Maps and Twitter in split mode with your crippled RAM and OS before we try anything more taxing?

Your argument is a modern version of command line Vs GUI. You want to talk about how fast you can run a single command. Other people care about practical issues like customising the interface and running multiple programs.

I would rather see 128GB as the base storage than the RAM increase.
Unfortunately the capacities don’t increment like that anymore. Apple has been trying to increase profits for the last several years, so they start the storage options at 64GB then immediately jump to 256GB. This is to force people who can’t necessarily live with 64GB, but don’t need 256GB to get the more expensive 256GB. It’s stupid. It used to be like this:
iPhone 4s - 16GB, 32GB, 64GB
iPhone 5 - 16GB, 32GB, 64GB
iPhone 5s - 16GB, 32GB, 64GB
iPhone 6 - 16GB, 64GB, 128GB
iPhone 6s - 16GB, 64GB, 128GB
iPhone 7 - 32GB, 128GB, 256GB
iPhone 8 - 64GB, 256GB
iPhone X - 64GB, 256GB
iPhone XR - 64GB, 128GB, 256GB
iPhone XS - 64GB, 256GB, 512GB
iPhone 11 - 64GB, 128GB, 256GB
iPhone 11 Pro - 64GB, 256GB, 512GB

You see what they did there? They got it back on track with the XR and the 11, the X and the Pro are off. If it’s really a “Pro” device, they should have started the capacities at 128GB

‘RAM-gate’.....

while on another site, Weight-gate has broken out

PhoneWeight

iPhone 11 Pro Max226 grams (7.97 ounces)
iPhone XS Max208 grams (7.34 ounces)
Samsung Galaxy Note 10+196 grams (6.91 oz)

your X doesn't shoot 4k 60hz with super HDR. whatever media you have atm, double it.
While it does do 4K@60Hz, I don't film that much. Your post I was replying to wasn't about the storage impact of video but the amount of usable storage left for pictures and video:

not even that much future proofing, with ios/apps/messages/email/ etc, realistically you got maybe 40-50gb of usable vid/pic storage.

I have no problem with people feeling that way. If it were me feeling that way, I'd vote with my wallet and give Samsung my business. Stat!

Last thing I'd do is whine on a public forum about a company not giving me free stuff. I'd never embarrass myself like that.

There are now five iPhone12,* postings up on Geekbench.

NONE are reporting true 4 GB DRAM !

All are in the 3.7 GB - 3.8 GB range.

That's the same as last year's XS & XS Max.

6 GB DRAM iPhones are a Pipe Dream, nothing more ! ... I won't believe it till I see it (confirmed) !

I'm not sure what your argument is here. Are you implying that Apple should be free from valid criticism in a public discussion? It's not whining to compare product A to product B.

no body cares in general, i don't give two **** what you do with your phone purchase lol, i only call out inconsistency when i see it.

go back and re-read, no one insisting or demanding apple to do anything, everyone here is just stating what they think. i'm slightly embarrassed for you that you think we are here making empty demands meanwhile i'm just here sitting at my desk making valid criticism on apple.

It’s funny and a little revealing how most of the posts I’ve seen in this thread have to do with storage capacity, not RAM, even though the article has nothing to do with storage capacity. I’d wager my soon-to-be-purchased 11 Pro that nearly no one would be able to detect the difference between an 11 Pro with 4GB vs 6GB RAM in real world use cases. Of course that won’t stop either the side-by-side comparison YouTubers or the people raring to be up in arms about the differences they find.

Not really. On my heavily-used 8 I have 8000 photos (58GB library), 1000 songs (which I don’t really need since I have Apple Music), and almost 300 apps. The only thing I don’t store locally is vids. 16GB podcasts. Haven’t cleared out messages or their photos in forever and it’s only using 5.5GB. With all that, I still have over 100GB left of 256. I think getting a 64 is silly but even with 4K vid shooting, 256 is plenty unless you plan on storing all those huge video files locally for some reason.
and if you have the 64 gb you now have -92gb.

my issue is 64gb being baseline for the new 4k 60hz Shdr camera, not 256 lol.

That’s ok. You don’t actually have to read my post to reply to it. I’d highlight for you the relevant parts of those four whole sentences, but I’m not a big believer in handholding.
you misunderstood my position big time, i don't have a problem with 256gb or 128gb tier,

People have been whining about Apple's iPhone memory pricing since there have been iPhones. Again, if you can get by with 64 GB purchase the base unit. If you need more memory, simply purchase it.

If you need the extra memory and can't afford it, vote with your wallet and buy a Samsung.

It's really simple.

The other option is whine, thinking Apple will change their upgrade structure. Good luck with that.

You keep spec chasing. I will continue to enjoy both platforms, as each offers different things.
Next time stop lying and making blanket statements that aren't true.

By the way, you "code". But for iOS AND Android?

Otherwise, don't tell me my business.
Both. Which is why I call out BS when I see it on both sides.

No. You don't get to dictate the terms or change the narrative (like you ALWAYS do when confronted).

This thread is about processor performance, not running Apps side-by-side.

As I've said before, nothing, and I mean NOTHING, brings out the haters quicker than a discussion about Apple processors. People just can't stand they are superior.

because iphone memory pricing has been that bad for years. literally dragging 16gb base for the longest time out of every brand.

i agree you should vote with your wallet, but do you think apple is happy losing customers to android?

Apple's processors are fantastic. That just makes it even more annoying that they cripple their devices with an abysmal OS and anaemic RAM.

Imagine what products Steve could have made with today's silicon. Instead we have Tim nickel and diming customers for pencil tips and headphone dongles, and gouging them on internal storage.

Apple's happiness isn't a concern of mine.

However, being the (or one of the) most successful companies in the world, with many millions of repeat customers opening their wallets paying premium prices for their products year after year after year, and having more than 1 billion customer credit card numbers on file, suggests to me as a company Apple knows what they are doing.

OTOH, if Apple's happiness in losing customers to Android is a concern of yours, you should write the company letting them know how they're blowing it.

And that's why you have many choices available. Don't like Apple's memory policies, purchase products from a company that has a different policy.

Pixels tend to have low amounts of RAM. OnePlus 6 has 8GB over a year ago. OnePlus 7 Pro has 12GB. Note 10+ is 12GB.

Ok. Then forget I said "until now."

We're still in a situation where Apple has less RAM, and therefore there's no bragging rights for the marketing people.

or hold onto my X, or wait for refurb 11 to go on sale, why stop there? i don't like apple's storage* policies, does that disqualify me from saying tim apple nickel and diming customers on memory?
