Does anyone know the official story on walk-ins?

I called an Apple store in my area just now and was told that I could simply walk in to buy one, but I'd have to be in line by around 8AM to be able to get one.

If that's true, and they have the Tmobile model that I so desperately want lol, then this is a way better method to secure a phone. I'm on a meager 15 megabit cable line, so my internet isn't nearly fast enough to get one with in-store pickup.

I walked in Friday morning at about 10:30am without a reservation and walked out with a Verizon model an hour later. For my store there was no line or anything like that. It sucks, but I'd say that if you can't get the reservation, you have to chance it and show up. Good luck!

when I called my local apple store (VA) they told me twice that I should just order online. they didn't mention the in-store pick up option, online.
I asked them could I come by the store at 8am , and he had the same answer , order online.

so , I don't know. if u have the time , stop by your store at 8am , might be worth a shot.

I ordered mine on eBay. brand new unopened, but I'm not eligible for an upgrade , so I had to buy it out right. I saved a little money too :)

:)

Last Monday at lunchtime, I went to the Bethesda store, and there was a short line for 5s even though they showed none on line. While in line, they said they had the grey 64gb I wanted, but by the time I got to the front, they were gone. I haven't seen any 64GBs since then on line between Richmond and Philly.

It's all ridiculous considering this is one of the most population dense areas in the country and arguably the first Apple Store in the country (Tyson's).

I think I'm done going in the morning though. I witnessed a Chinese family force a sliding door open at Montgomery Mall this morning before it opened at 6. I can't fight with people who seem to be make a living off scalping phones.

People who missed the store pickup...

These are the hints to buy one (Based on my experience):

1. Make sure you use iOS Apple Store App and not website. It is much faster than the website.
2. Everyday keep eye on the online tracker between 11-11:15am PST and 3-3:15pm PST. I have seen that the stock gets added around that almost 100% of the time. Quantity may vary but they definitely add stock that time.
3. Pick in store inventory vanishes as we come close to the weekend (Makes sense as anyway many people flock to stores so they don't have to put anything online.)
4. IMO no inventory added on weekends for in store pickup.
5. Use the chrome plugin for page changes. Works great!

All my experience is based on above two time slots. Good luck for 3pm :)

I see a 64gb gold within my area. You can't pay full retail on this reserve online and pick up site can you? How about exchanging?

How do you think we feel in NYC? There's an Apple store within every 1-3 square mile radius in the city yet there are barely any phones available anywhere. Just a ton of 5C's collecting dust at every store.

I paid full retail and used the in-store pickup option. My line was not eligible for an upgrade, so my only option using the Apple Store app was full price.

But they DID activate it in-store before I left. So if you are asking about paying full retail and not activating, I don't think you can do that (yet.)

Do you pay when you get there or online? I was thinking of claiming it then returning mine when I get there for a apple gift card then using that to purchase it...

Yes, I paid online first and had my "we're ready for you" email within about 20 minutes. Walked in, the guy scanned it, walked out with shrink wrapped box.

I'm sure it's 100x worse there. Don't envy your situation.

they didn't just open it and activate there huh.

When he scanned it, it activated it too. No need for him to open it. My old iPhone stopped working about 10 seconds after he scanned it.

I did think it was cool that it worked like that, it was activated and yet there was no need for the employee to actually open the box. I got to do that at my leisure. :)

What are you talking about? I am in NYC and I have been checking stock and I see stock at different times of the day including gold. I have posted here when I see stock. I'm seeing gold and silver Verizon stock now!

Called to cancel my apple store order and chose in store pickup. It was risky, but unlike last time, it worked.
I'm so happy to close this chapter of iPhone searching.
