It's the same here :(

its really annoying when you use it on a white background and scrolling isnt it? i feel ya

I've seen a lot of people put a microfiber cloth between the screen and keyboard when closed.

yea i bought something called "isaver2" on amazon and i make sure to use it at all times now. i am actually kinda paranoid about closing my macbook now cuz i dont want it to happen again. it was a horrible experience and especially visible when you were scrolling or on a white background.

I have a 2013 Retina MacBook Pro.

Because of the horrible, glossy display, I'm always rubbing it down. Why? Its stupid mirror-like appearance really makes all the smudges, dust specks, pieces of lint, and weird "greasy keyboard key outlines" really stand out.

And you know what? I've never seen this happen. Nothing has rubbed off of my display. I don't even follow Apple's recommendation. I use old t-shirts, rubbing alcohol, spit, or whatever.

I do recommend getting an anti-glare screen protector. I got a 2-pack off eBay for $14.

Jeezus H Christ that looks bad in the sun. Do you carry other books/gear pressed against the lid? How else would the screen hit the keys?

My MBP is always inside my Crumpler Notebook Sleeve, which protects it a bit, but apparently not enough. It is inside my normal big bag that - of course - carries other items in it (sometimes books). For me, the notebook it not a luxury item that gets special treatment, it is a working tool that has to fit into my normal bag for work and travel. To have an additional sheet to protect the screen from the keyboard is a good advice though (that I will take for the next laptop...)

Macbook Pro Mid End 2013 model, also the same problem. Not in the middle of the screen, but on the whole edge of the screen.

Went to the store where I bought the Macbook, they called Apple; I had cleaned the screen with a fluid material. I can not prove that I have not done that, so I am standing with my back to the wall and had to pay for a new screen.

Hopefully this will make Apple talk differently!!

I am not wiping my screen wrong. I have full protection for my laptop. Including a sturdy sleeve. and I NEVER touch my keyes NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER when my hands are dirty or contaminated with any substances (food or other chemicals); furthermore I only use sprays without alcohol (the one I use I bought from the apple store).

More so I had a 2005 Macbook for 10 years and this did NOT occur.
Now my retina macbook pro I have had it for 7 months and boom this happened

I hope apple does not refuse to solve this problem - as a student I paid ~2000 for the laptop.

This is totally happening to my macbook

THIS IS TOTALLY HAPPENING TO MY MACBOOK albeit much less dramatically than in the picture. Last September I had the Genius bar replace the screen (the entire top half of the clam shell) because it had become a distraction. The problem is that the keys actually touch the screen when you close the mac. It leaves dozens of little smudges which wipe off using a lint-free cloth, but at the middle of the screen I am again seeing the anti-reflective coating beginning to wear away. Fortunately I have Applecare and have no qualms about making them fix this again if it gets too distracting.

Take it in! Make them replace the screen!

I'm sure Apple will acknowledge the issue - at some point - like the soldering issues / graphic issues in MacBook Pro 2011!

A little patience is required :)

We need to stop giving passes to the most financially successful company in the history of the world. The fact that we have to badger them for months or even years before they recognize an issue and replace it is completely ridiculous and quite frankly disrespectful. I'm not saying they should bend immediately to every issue, but this is beyond being an isolated event. Good guy Apple should take care of this ASAP. The 2012 rMBP started at $2200. I think mine was just shy of $3000. It's not like these machines are cheap! Just replace the damn coating.

and here I was only a day ago contemplating selling my iPad and 2011 Mac to put towards a new 15" pro.....a little bit deterred right now. Of course, who knows if I could really go through with being rid of my iMac..

We have 6 rMBP between 1 and 3 years old and they are all the time in the field on location. Not a single one has any signs of that...

Wow, this is horrible. Really crappy that they're not replacing it NO QUESTIONS ASKED by now. That should never happen.

I'm so happy it doesn't affect me. I have Late 2013 13" rMBP and I clean it A LOT with micro-fiber cloth.

I would be furious if this defect occured to my MBP due to normal usage.

I just dropped my 18 month old Retina off this morning for this problem. They said it's "only" the second one they'd seen. Good timing. Mine did it all around the edges, even the bottom where I don't touch it. But nothing on the display that you actually see.

Yeah, it sucks. But I had no issue getting them to fix it and put on a new display.

Same problem also on iMac Retina Oct 2014

Hi,

i have had the same problems with my iMac Retina Oct. 2014.

I took it to my Apple Store (Berlin) and they
replaced it for free.

Best wishes,

Georgia

that happened to me last fall and the apple store replaced my screen even though my warranty expired 20 months ago. they told me to "put something between the display and the keyboard on a closed lid" for the future"

That's like offering a bumper.

If the proper caring of the device requires a cloth, then it should be included/provided with the purchase.

I have a Mid 2014 MBP Retina and not a single issue with the screen. I use tap water and a lint free cloth to clean (gently) - not a single problem. Hell even my 2011 MBA has no screen issues either.

Screen

We've had this issue on four Mac Book Pros and have paid over $1500 to get repaired. When you ask the "Genius" they said it doesnt have a coating.... Well it doesn't take a "Genius" to figure out it does and Apple should be repairing these.

Agreed and I'm doing my part! Already had them replace the top half of my Macbook Retina 13" in Sept 2014.

yeah i didnt like that answer either cuz ... you would think you can use a 1.700 machine without having to worry about something like that but like i said i didnt wanna push my luck cuz at least they did fix it for free
