Because I didn't want to carry around a dummy phone until the white one came out. And at the time when the iPhone 4 was released, no one knew the white iPhone was going to be released in July. July could have been December. And I damn sure wasn't waiting that long. End of story, I'm getting the white iPhone.

it still could be december. And buoy for you for not having any patience. As long as you're ok with a restocking fee and/or the possibility that they won't exchange it....

LOL - sucks when you do explain yourself and then censor yourself though.. huh?

$50 restocking fee at most? That's not much.

No, I thought my original response didn't go through and I didn't feel like typing it over. But you get the point.

Apple will release the white one after at least 30 days of the "black" launch, to intentionally avoid this from happening. They will lose a lot of money.

Incease in customer care support costs, shipping, refurbishing, restocking, etc.....

Don't even argue with him dude. Do what you want. I think it's great! You're right. It's your money and your decision!

*IF* they change one and *IF* they let you take it back. And if they don't? I guess you'll have to buy a new one (wait in line, etc) and then sell your black one.

To each their own. I still think that someone buying something (not just a phone) as a loaner/knowingly and with intent to return it, is a bit obnoxious.

It is.

Reeks of immaturity. "I WANT MY IPHONE NAOOOOO!!!!!!!!"

There's a 30 day guarantee, so I can return mine until like July 27th.

Will you return your black for the white one? Maybe the white one will also have a fix to the antenna thing? Probably not though.

Please note: I'm not talking about some kind of supported "exchange." I'm talking about returning your iphone, getting your upgrade back, then buying a white one.

About those who are freaking out about the "scum" we are for returning our phones?

It's nothing like wearing clothes then returning them later. Because Apple didn't have the white iPhone available...PLUS they have had this whole antenna issue; I feel no remorse for playing the company that forced me to buy a bumper to use the phone for which I paid so much money.

better check your receipt!! I only had a 14 day return period on mine and that expired on the 9th clearly printed on the receipts RETURN DATE: 07-09-2010
my date of purchase was 06-25-2010 from an Apple store!!

Which is why he's going to RETURN his and then get white.

I know he's going to return the phone. But the fact that Apple provides AppleCare to everyone, and will exchange the phone like for like negates his point of returning the phone because of the antenna issue, and just "happen" to get white instead.

If he does return the phone, it will be purely to get white instead of black since there was a simpler option if he just wanted a properly working phone. You see the difference?

I didn't buy AppleCare. All of these issues will be fixed within the year I get of free warranty so why purchase it?

Everyone gets AppleCare for the first year.

My decision. No need to explain myself when its MY money and MY phone. End of story, I'm getting the white iPhone.

Yup, you're responsible for YOUR money and YOUR purchase. Not Apple. Wanted white but couldn't wait? Tough, your responsibility.

I, personally, will be looking forward to all the threads and posts of people blaming everyone but themselves on why they couldn't exchange or why they were "taxed" for doing so. Should provide a few hours of chuckles.

Agreed. I'm sure that there will be much wailing and gnashing of teeth.

You do know that quote was a fake, right? You also realize the hypocrisy of making that statement while being so concerned about the phone COLOR too?

Nope. Everyone doesn't get AppleCare for the first year. AppleCare gets you unlimited phone tech support whereas the out of the box warranty only gets you 90 days.. So there's a difference.

I wanted the white. I'll be honest. But, when the black came out, I decided I'd get that one and be happy with it for 2 years. I had absolutely no intention whatsoever of trying to exchange for white or "cheating the system". I was content with my black iPhone 4. Apple, however, gave me a defective device. I've lived with it for close to a month and, after numerous dropped calls, would like a different phone that, you know, works. With the white iPhone right around the bend, what should stop me from purchasing a white iPhone? Apple gave me a faulty product, I want another one. Oh, there are other color options and I prefer a different color than my original? So be it. And all the people saying, "Well Apple can't sell those as new now, blah blah," are advising those of us with defective phones to take them back and get them exchanged with a refurbished phone. I don't want that! I want what I should have had in the first place. A new phone that works. A phone that makes phone calls. And, you know what, I want the white one. If Apple is putting me through this much hassle of having to return the broken phone, they might as well let me choose which color I want.

I was being sarcastic. :/ Lol.

I do realize I'll be the owner of a white iPhone 4 soon. Lol. I DO realize that!

Valid point. I defer to an earlier post I made thought. The difference is INTENT. You didn't buy the black one with the intention to return it. You bought the black as a consolation and you would have kept the black had it not been for other issues. There IS a difference which I am sure you not only can understand but can appreciate it.

The objection I have is for those people that literally bought the black JUST to use while they were waiting for a white one. That's obnoxious. Again - it's an issue of intent - even if the results are the same.

You'll preach its your money until the world ends but the moment you're held responsible you try to brush the blame off on someone else?

Sorry, I also refer to Apple's One-Year Limited Manufacturer's Warranty as Apple Care. It's a lot faster to type. Point is, the poster I was talking to still has the option of exchanging their defective phone at any Apple Store. The name of the warranty wasn't what I was concerned with.

You're entitled to a working phone, I agree. And Apple will provide it. Simply go exchange it like for like at any apple store and you'll have a working phone in 15 minutes. No hassle. However, thinking that you're entitled to anything other than what you've purchased is completely naive.

You have to realize that even when you exchange your phone like for like, Apple still loses money. They must take your old phone, ship it, test it, fix it, ship it again....all of which cost money. So Apple isn't getting off easy either. But believing you're entitled to anything other than what you purchased is completely wrong.

If you don't like it, return your iphone and get an EVO or something else. Apple is NOT responsible for your inability to wait.

Should make some good fun reading me thinks XD - I can already see the "I Told You So" replies lol!

When did I say I'm entitled to anything more than what I purchased? I purchased an iPhone 4 that doesn't work. I want an iPhone 4 that works. K? I don't, however, believe that I deserve a refurbished phone which is what I'd receive if I exchanged it.

And, if you'd carefully read my original post, I didn't expect Apple to be responsible for my inability to wait. I bought a black iPhone 4 and was going to keep it. In light of the antenna issue, however, I'm going to return it and would like to, instead of getting a black refurbished phone, get a new white iPhone. How is that naive?

What is "naive" is assuming that I haven't an idea of how things like this work. I'm an employee of Apple (not in a retail store) and I can assure you that I know much more about the inner workings of my company than you do. Don't be so self assured to call me naive.
