Anyone who purchased a black one with no intent of keeping it (to get the white later) needs to grow up and learn some patience...

(lots clipped for space)

That's all I'm saying.

BadMoon - your words aren't wasted here.. but then again - you just "preached" back. So which is it - can you preach to others or not here?

But the main point I wanted to make is. I don't go on message boards and create polls nor do I brag that I am going to steal music or speed down the highway or any one of the numerous things that may or may not make me a hypocrite.

That's the difference here. When someone decides to go from "doing their own thing" (whether I agree with or not) to publicly announcing it - like on a forum - or in the office or out with friends - whatever - then they invite people to comment. And that's what we've done.

If people don't want to be judged (here) - then perhaps they should take a moment before posting to determine if what they are about to "brag" about is worth it.

I see a lot of threads on here about cheating ATT, Apple, etc with the craziest justifications. Am I, personally, better than anyone else or the person posting. Well I'd like to think so as I try and live my life honestly and contribute to a better world. But if and when I've done something that perhaps might cross the line of something someone else might deem inappropriate I have the good sense to keep it to myself.

Many people here (and definitely younger members) seem to think that since they post here every day that this is a "safe" place. They get comfortable. Too comfortable. I'm not saying this or other forums are UNsafe. But at the same time - how many people REALLY know (in person) someone else on this board. And yet people do name call. I've been called both a hater and a fan boy (which I find hilarious). People like to put labels on others - it's human nature. But at the end of the day - all someone CAN react to on here is the way someone presents themselves.

I'm pretty much the same in person that I am online. Others get tough online but when you meet them they aren't in the slightest.

The internet gives a voice to anyone willing so speak up. But that also means taking RESPONSIBILITY for what you say. Just like it's important in life to take responsibility for your actions and not blame others.

I'm not going to debate you. I shouldn't have even replied to your first post. I've said what I wanted. If you disagree then so be it. :)

I see. So you're unwilling to acknowledge the hypocrisy, because it will completely devalue and negate your rant.

Ignoring a problem doesn't not make it go away my friend.

I hope they don't take exchanges. I also hope that the white phone comes out after the 30 day notice.

You should learn to be patient enough to wait for something you want - and not have the I WANT IT NOW so I don't care how I make that happen mentality.

Here's hoping that anyone who tries this course of action... can't. Or it's cost prohibitive.

Yeah. I said it.

I will bite on this. First off I'm not your friend. ;) Second off I'm not judging nor name calling. I gave my OPINION on a few posts. Third it wasn't a rant. I gave very legitimate reasons why no one has the right to just name call and accuse others of doing evil deeds when they themselves likely have done worse then returning a phone for a different color. If you want to make the world a better place then that's great! Do it! Grab your balls and do what it takes. Complaining here and name calling won't help. Nor will asking people where they live so you can "steal their computer" as you so put it. So please. You are no better. ;)

It doesn't really matter at this point. Apple is aware of this possibility and will protect themselves. So pretty much do what you want.

Exactly! Although I wouldn't call it an "issue". A possibility as you put it is perfect! LOL!

There's a 30 day guarantee, so I can return mine until like July 27th.

Will you return your black for the white one? Maybe the white one will also have a fix to the antenna thing? Probably not though.

Please note: I'm not talking about some kind of supported "exchange." I'm talking about returning your iphone, getting your upgrade back, then buying a white one.

---

About those who are freaking out about the "scum" we are for returning our phones?

It's nothing like wearing clothes then returning them later. Because Apple didn't have the white iPhone available...PLUS they have had this whole antenna issue; I feel no remorse for playing the company that forced me to buy a bumper to use the phone for which I paid so much money.

OH DEAR SHAME ON YOU, I HAVE IT ON VERY GOOD AUTHORITY FROM APPLE UK (A FRIEND WHO WORKS THERE) THAT YES EXCHANGES WILL BE ALLOWED AS NORMAL BUT THEY WILL ONLY EXCHANGE THE SAME COLOUR, HE HAS HAD AN EAMIL TO STATE THIS, UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES CAN YOU EXCHANGE FOR ANOTHER COLOUR AND I PRESUME IT WILL BE THE SAME FOR APPLE WORLDWIDE

SHAME - SERVES YOU RIGHT FOR NOT WAITING, MWAH HA HA HA

I've heard two accounts of people spotting Apple employees with white iPhone 4's in San Francisco this weekend, that dude in Japan got himself one, let's hope this is the week of pre-orders!

Please, don't put words in my mouth. I didn't call you any names. I simply pointed out the hypocrisy in your statement.

Some words of wisdom, if you're not prepared to have your OPINION challenged then don't post it on the internet.

You are no better either. So who are you to judge me, and say I shouldn't judge others?

Your previous post is just as "self-righteous" as everyone else's. You think you took a high road by telling others they shouldn't judge, when in fact you're doing the exact same thing as they did.

lulz @ idiots that don't think people should be able to return and buy a white phone. You are most likely the same ones that don't think Apple should be giving out free bumpers for their defective design.

Returning one of our black iPhones this week, and getting a white one. :D

P.S. Enjoying my free bumper that Apple returns sent me. LOL

You sure the white iphone is coming out this week?

Setting aside everyone's opinions on whether this is morally correct, I really don't think Apple will allow someone to exchange a black one for a white one. I really believe they will have some kind of roadblock in the process that will make one get "back in line" if they want a white one, meaning you'll probably have to return the black one within the 30 day window and get back in line, or just buy one outright (get in line) and deal with selling your black one outside the process (or simply keep it).

Agreed. I've said all along, it will be possible but Apple will make it as time consuming and as expensive as possible.

My 2 cents

Here's what Apple is going to do,

they stressed on launch day do not buy a black if you are going to exchange for a white and this is why

even if the white iphone becomes available around july 31st, that wouldnt stop people from just returning the phone earlier and then just waiting out the couple of days so here's their new policy:

from the day you exchange your iPhone 4 there will be a freeze on your iPhone upgrade eligibility for one month, meaning that you have to wait a month before buying an iPhone on your line, avoiding this whole cheating the system idea. It may or may not cover a family plan loop hole

This way anybody who bought a black iPhone because they couldnt wait for white, but really want white, will have to wait it out a month just like all of us who waited a month for white. Or you could be stuck with black, which is likely what will happen.

Just my theory to the whole deal, haven't read this whole thread so its probably been said before, in that case, I agree with whoever has already said this

This is what I imagined Apple doing, especially since they nixed the restocking fee. +1

The White iPhone 4 looks ugly IMO, I was a lover of white apple product, but i feel like the screen's frame has to be black

It's not up to Apple to reset the eligibility date. AT&T does it. There is no specific iPhone upgrade eligibility, just a general eligibility. If this would occur, then people would not have the option to get a different phone on their upgrade. So yeah, your plan could not happen.

At&T's site has an upgrade eligibilty and below it an iphone eligibility, so yea, i think it could happen

I'm going to buy the white one to keep my black one company. I might use them to have face time calls with myself, or spy on my pet goldfish when I'm at the office.

Yes, it could. If you don't want the iPhone at all you can exchange it and maintain your current contract (i.e. no contract cancellation required). I know this because my sister exchanged phones when we first started our AT&T contract. But since neither Apple nor AT&T would do a direct exchange (black for white) of iPhones, you'd have to cancel your current contract and then resign up.

Two different scenarios.

You know, I was just considering this, and really it's not any different than returning a 16gb for 32gb. Apple makes you pay restocking for doing that, I think they will make you pay for color exchange too. The restocking fee waiver was never said to apply to ALL returns/exchanges, just returns for the signal issue. So, you'll all probably get stuck paying restocking fees, as you should.

I do think it's wrong to have purchased the black phone KNOWING at that time that you were just going to return it for white. That is just like buying clothes, wearing them and returning them. It's all about intent. If someone buys a black one thinking they will keep it, but later decides it was a terrible mistake, that's not as bad. Same with size, no one buys a 16gb thinking they'll just return it later for the bigger size-- they would buy what they think they need/want. If it turns out that, "OMG, I can't fit half what I need on here", and they return it for the larger size, that's okay. But no one would INTEND to buy the wrong size and then return it.

Anyway, this is one of those moral gray areas where intent is key. That aside, I wouldn't be at all surprised if Apple purposely launches the white phone after the 30 day return window to try to foil all these exchange plans.

Use your brain people. Apple has already said you can return the phone with no restocking fee, because of all the signal problems.

Step 1: Return phone.
Step 2: Purchase white one.

There is nothing Apple nor AT&T will do to stop this. Again, use your brain. Why would they care? They have already allowed for returns with no restocking fee. You are no longer an Apple customer, but you are still an AT&T customer. You no longer have to have the iPhone data plan on your AT&T account. Here is where the gears should be turning in your head. AT&T wants you to buy an iPhone, because they force the data plan on you. Apple wants you to buy an iPhone, because they make money from the phone.

AT&T and Apple are not in business to prevent sales. The world is a little bigger than this forum. You people forget that all the time.
