If they have them, yes. I convinced myself of the black, but now seeing those unboxing pictures are making me remorseful.

So returning a product within the 30 day return period is now considered unethical? Am i missing something?

The act of returning something because of a fault or because you no longer desire the device is one thing.

Buying something with the intent of not keeping it - "renting it" - is low class.

I think most people in this thread are assuming that people wanting to exchange had knowingly purchased the black model with the intention of exchanging later; wasting the device as a hold-over.

having bought a white 3G and 3GS i wanted to buy the white iphone 4 but since they wernt available i decided that i'd get black instead... If i cant return my phone within the 30 days and then buy a white iphone i'll just settle with a decal on the back or i'll probably end up buying a replacement back glass (in white of course)

What difference does it make? They have 30 days (or so) to return the product, it's within their right.

Since many white iphone wanters went out and got the black one as a temporary phone they caused many others unable to be able to get an iphone at all upon release. Waiting a month to get the color you want wouldn't kill anyone. Some people are worse than kids when a new phone is released. Geez. Same goes for those who put in 2-3 orders from different retailers to get their phone then cancel orders to try to get their phone earlier. You guys are the reason why the iphone 4 launch was such a disaster. Sad.

Legally, it is within their right.

Morally and ethically, because they couldn't show restraint and delay their gratification (read: instant gratification/I want it NOW! GIMME GIMME GIMME!!!), then expect to be blessed with a white iPhone, really shows their lack of character, honour, and integrity.

They should know better, and obviously don't.

BL.

The difference is intent. And if you don't see how buying something with the prior intent of returning it (showing an incredible lack of patience) is wrong - then THAT'S an issue unto itself as well.

There's no reason that those that wanted a white phone couldn't wait to get a white phone. None.

And I'm not saying they shouldn't be entitled to one. I just think they should pay for the "rent" on the phone they did buy to satisfy their "me me me now now now" mentality.

Why should Apple and other consumers have to pay (in the long run) for other people's selfishness?

EXACTLY. It's not even about shutting others out from getting one. But how selfish to order/put your name down with apple, att, put your name at BB, Radio Shack all just to make sure you get one on launch day.

And for those that did that AND have the gaul to then return it? You deserve to get hit with a hefty RENTAL FEE.

lol at bringing up morality and ethics when talking about exchanging a phone....really? Get over yourself. And if you remember back to pre-orders the only information we had was "later this summer". That could have meant september and there was no way i was using a RAZR for that long.

Why not? And why didn't you have your iPhone still? I assume you sold it? Prematurely? How is that Apple's fault? Why make it Apple's fault now?

I'm no "fanboy" - but get over YOURself. Thanks for illustrating the entitlement and selfish point some of us have been making though. Well done!

I guess your moral lesson will come when you get a PayPal chargeback on that 3GS you just eBayed to Thailand cause the seller claims he never got it (which could be true, as it is just as likely that the local postal workers steal it). Or you find out that the PayPal payment was fraudulent.

Karma can be a b****. I mean if you want to do it go ahead, but to start a thread bragging about it and be upset at the response?

BTW, link to the eBay Thailand thread ...

Well you can justify it anyway you want. I actually called the post office and the package was returned to the post office where I will get it tomorrow. BTW, I would never wish what happened upon anyone.

You guys make it sounds like returning your black iphone for a white one is like returning a tshirt because it is the wrong size. It's not the same! You knew what you were getting when you PREORDERED your BLACK phone. You're wasting Apple's/AT&T's time with your returns. I can see if you have a legitimate reason to return your phone (yellow spots) but doing so because its not the right color? We are talking a couple hundred dollar piece of electronics not a 15 dollar shirt. If I were Apple/AT&T I wouldn't allow customers to return them for such a stupid and juvenile reason as waiting another color.

I gave in and called my local Apple store to get on the priority list for a 16 and a 32 GB Black IP4. That was last Saturday and they said could be 2 days to 2 weeks before I hear anything. I also asked about exchanging a Black for a White and the rep said there will be no color exchanges. Don't flame me just telling y'all what she said.

I still have my 3GS but a section on the screen where the keyboard is doesn't work, making it pretty much useless as a phone. And i dont feel like arguing so you're right im selfish because i want a white iPhone. You got me.

I would imagine that there isn't going to be an easy way to do this in store. You will most likely have to straight return and then wait for AT&T to reverse the upgrade eligibility and contract and then purchase white. I doubt apple is just going to swap it out for you in store.

P.s. I waited for the white iphone 4.... im like an iphone 4 virgin that waited till the wedding day instead of slutting it up with a black one first

Wow some people here really take the iphone to the heart and soul , calling people "unethical" "not a man of honor" "low class" , geez take it easy geeks is just a freaking phone (which i happen to love) wait..did i just contradict myself there? oh well .. salud!

Who is Rethinking the White iPhone?

I pre ordered my iPhone from ATT and received in on 6-23. Lovr the phone! The only issue for me was the white balance on the camera and after reading here that it was an issue, I went to Apple and they switched the phone. Now it is much improved. However, when I look at the photo of the white iPhone on the web page, I am beginning to rethink my choice of phone. I really like the front and clean look of the phone in white. When it is released I may have to work out a method of obtaining one. Fortunately, my beloved husband has decided to switch to an iphone for the first time. I may have to convince him to wait for the white and switdh sim cards with him, as he really wants the black one!

All of my iPhones have been encased.
Color hasn't been important to me.
The white phone is nice looking.

I'm rethinking in the other direction. I was planning on trying to exchange my black for white (or trading with a friend) once they became available. I had white iPhone 3G and 3GS, and I loved them. But now that I've had this for two weeks, I'm thinking of keeping it. I think it looks slick.

Of course, once I see the white in person, I might change my mind again.

I'm leaning this way too. I'm going to switch to a 32GB and get a white one but I really like the look of the black. The photos on Apple's site don't do the black iPhone any justice.

Specific to the i4, I don't like the silver on white - very feminine - but I'm sure some girls(/guys?) could pull it off. I also don't like the contrast between the deeply coloured screen and the blank, bright white frame it sits in. Just doesn't fit quite right.

If I'm honest, it really does look like a 'his & hers' scenario, with the black i4 for him, the white i4 for her!
