This speaks for itself:

Yes I thought it would that in fact is why I wrote it that way.
It's not difficult, you marginalise a generation, take the small amount of money that previously supported them to pay for the bankers theft, remove the possibility of them ever having their own home, harass and arrest them for no reason day in day out, show them the real thieves in society get away with it year after year, show them all the toys that they could have except they have no chance of getting the money to buy them and you wonder why they follow Camerons advice and strike out on their own in entrepreneurial fashion. As I said in the post you selected a bit out of "I think they are going about it in the wrong way but I'm not going to condemn them" i'll stick by that.
The threats of long jail sentences are a bloody joke most of them have nothing to lose, bang them up for a few years and they'll come out more educated crims and they'll be extremely pissed off about who banged them up.
Big Society my arse.

You are correct, I'll phone up Sky News and tell them the riots this evening in Liverpool, Leeds and Birmingham are a figment of their imagination.

I was referring to Kebabs post where he said Sky News were showing a video of riots in Liverpool. I posted the original video above which shows it isn't Liverpool.

Chill out lol

Apparently Merseyside Police have confirmed a number of 'small disturbances' there, although the footage Sky are showing hasn't been verified as Liverpool.

EDIT: From the BBC's live feed...

Merseyside Police confirm they are dealing with a number of incidents in South Liverpool, including cars being set alight. Members of the public have been advised to avoid Smithdown Road, Lodge Lane and Upper Parliament Street. In a statement, Merseyside Police's Andy Ward said: "Officer have tonight dealt with a small number of incidents of violence across the city. We will not tolerate any violence on the streets of Liverpool and have taken swift and robust action in response."

Apparently a litter bin has been tipped over here in Renfrew by some yoofs, scared a cat.
You seem to know an awful lot about said incident, Fuzzy – 'some yoofs', was it? ;)

Meanwhile, the Sky reporter chap at the scene was live from a Boots that had been ransacked. Empty packets of pharmaceuticals littered the floor, our intrepid journalist inspected them to discover they were... imodium.

I know things are scary down there in London, but really?

+1 on the canons (with dye), rubber bullets, and forum members/family being safe. Remind/teach the thieves, arsonists... they aren't untouchable.

On a lighter note:eek: they have it easy these days, I'd like to see them make off with a 38 inch CRT television.

Cheers,
OW

No to rubber bullets. The gangs are itching to bring out the heavy armour. The situation is disgraceful enough as it is. We do not need the police and the thugs shooting at each other.

I would certainly hate to see anyone get caught in the crossfire.

But I wouldn't be shedding any tears to see a gang-banger taken out in a gunfight with police.

Agree OW, and put laxatives in the water canon as well.

Excuse me if I've been flippant, trying not to get this moved to PRSI and I am thinking about people who are sadly affected by this, especially my mate who is a copper in Peckham so on duty tonight.

Its easy to write this off as just a few nutters who want a free TV, but I do hope the authorities take this opportunity to review why it's happened. For one there seems to be a two-tier policing where they have made great inroads into the community with a friendlier faced policing but then first sign of trouble and they have masked up and hidden their officer numbers, almost becoming as bad as the protestors. The picture posted by OllyW (post 29) is a striking image (no pun intended) because the policeman is identifiable and human, this removes any sympathy that these self-styled anarchists could have generated.

It looks like the police are getting stretch pretty thin. What would happen if they put in place a mandatory curfew? Like if you are the street after sundown you are arrested. That would be around 8pm'ish or so Guessing on the time because I am in Houston and I know sundown is a lot later there.

Not enough police to enforce a curfew. We're not talking about a couple of hundred people; there are tens of thousands of people out there committing robberies and acts of violence.

They could do that, but this has been going on all day, so it's not so much a 'cover of darkness' thing.

The Police in London have been criticised for years and years for being prejudiced when dealing with ethnic communities, and for being too violent towards protesters. Only two years ago at the G20 summit here, an innocent man was shoved over by police and died.

I suspect that the Police have been holding back to a certain extent because they've been put in an impossible situation. If they react too hard, they will be blamed both for ethnic violence and for brutality. They can't risk being put in that situation again - politicians find it too easy to shift blame to the police if things go wrong. The Police commissioners are not democratically elected (as in the States), so they don't have to answer directly to the public - they're more afraid of politicians.

I expect that they're waiting for the Prime Minister to return - and I assume he'll be the one to tell them to take their response up a notch. UK police have long dealt with crowd violence (especially in Northern Ireland), and they are equipped with rubber bullets/water cannon/CS gas etc. I would expect all these things to be in use later tomorrow.

London is not structured like Houston. It's a vast city made of many interconnecting towns and villages that have grown together over time. The rioting seems to be happening around some of the medium-sized centres in mixed-race areas. The centre of London has been pretty unaffected, and other areas of London such as where I live haven't been affected (I think it's because there are no 'big brand' shops on my local high street, and also the different ethnic mix where I live). There would never be an 'all London' curfew - although there may be some selected curfew on certain streets.

The Sony distribution centre is a very big fire, hopefully it's only property and everyone is out.

(as I suspected loads of police guarding the West end in spite of there being no trouble there )

( I'm also wondering if dodgy Dave will have to pay the £15000 a week rental for his Tuscany villa now he's finally about to drag himself away )

Back at the end of April when we had the afternoon of the killer tornados, there was a sundown curfew here in the damaged areas. The National Guard was helping enforce it. Surprisingly, looting was a very little issue once they got here.

I take it that's where the more upper class people that aren't rioting live? I'm an American, so I'm not all that aware of more intimate details of London's geography/demographics.
