It doesn't. Not always.
In my case, my battery has 900 cycles and I'm already on 72% of max capacity. And keep going down...

I went to an Apple Store, to the Genius Bar, a coupple of times, and they don't do anything, they say it depends on usage, etc... So keep that in mind.

Mine is a non retina 2010 MBP.

Ok, thanks for the info. I guess we will see how it goes. I plan on getting a new rmbp at the end of 2014. Till then I think I am going to be good with the current one.

Hi Guys,

I got my 15” rMBP soon after launch last year, and use it pretty much everyday, but only for an hour or so, nothing excessive..

But, If I take it off charge, I’m only getting about 2 hours battery life, just enough time to watch a film.

Is that not normal? Will Apple swap the battery out? I have to admit, I’m a little disappointed as I was hoping I’d get 5 hours out of the thing!

It does not sounds right, how does the stats of the battery look like? Is the machine still in warranty?

My rbmp is only a few days old now. I'm here to ask what usage behavior is healthiest for getting the most out of the battery - are most of you leaving it plugged in on AC 100% of the time, only using the battery every few days or so?

Based on feedback here, use it with power whenever you can, that will reduce the number of charge/discharge cycles without damaging the battery (for not using it too often, as some people thinks)

49 cycles , 11 months I still am holding a 102.0% health. Best thing to do is not worry about it each battery is a lil different anyways.:D

Thank you. Does ~25% battery usage seem like a good amount to strive for, roughly 7 cycles a month?

You don't have to strive for a certain number of cycles or percentage of time on battery. Just use it normally, as long as you're not running all the time on AC power.

Charge Information:
Charge Remaining (mAh): 6660
Fully Charged: Yes
Charging: No
Full Charge Capacity (mAh): 6660
Health Information:
Cycle Count: 120
Condition: Normal

13". 8 months old. 1 calibration.

Current Capacity: 8107 mAh
Design Capacity: 8460 mAh

Age of mac: 11 months
Cycles: 223
Batt temp: 30.6c
Power usage: 14.1

And I'm getting two hours out of the battery.. and that's just watching a film with everything else closed.

This on an 8 month old 15" rMBP:

Full Charge Capacity (mAh): 8380
Cycle Count: 86

Surprisingly few cycles considering I use the thing on battery almost daily. But the battery life being so good, I don't think I've ever managed to empty the battery, and rarely get it below 50% during a single days use.

Yikes. I'm at around 94%/95% with 134 cycles and I've had the computer for a few weeks over a year now. Is this normal? My main concern has to do with the battery health more than the cycle count.

There's nothing to worry about. Read post #56.

not sure if this is classified as bumping a thread but id rather not start a new one if this exists...
anyway, i'm at 433 cycles on my 15inch rMBP (august 2012) and i feel as though thats a bit much, so now i'm leaving it plugged in... battery health says that the current max is 89.8% ...not terrible i guess

That does not seem like much ive seen guys with 1000+ cycles and a fairly healthy battery at 86%. You might cause more quicker decrease in health by leaving it plugged in rather then using the battery for what its made for.
My battery counts at 45 for my 17 day old retina.

Husband and I purchased our rMBPs at launch last year.

Mine:
Cycles: 130
Age: 1 yr
Capacity: 94.8%

Husband's:
Cycles: 59
Age: 1 yr
Capacity: 99.2%
