Congrats! LTE or WiFi only?

Thanks space gray 16 wifi.

I've always been happy with the base iPad models. Also, for iPad 3 I had to swap the device like 7 times so I feel for you guys. Most we're plagued with a hot pink corner or unevenness or something obvious upon first boot up.

Now I'm much more inclined to upgrade and keep this since it's a gem.

Yes! I can clearly see the retention. What if many icons have retention? Also, how long it lasts is a good question. What if it worsens?

It worsens ??? OMG since when Apple is using plasma display on they tablets ?
Yes indeed ... It's going to became like a poster with fixed icons on the screen ...

I've wondered that too. I know that older plasmas suffered from IR but I don't know how LED's could suffer from IR.

Image retention on new iPads is not an issue, it's a feature! When you type a long post and Safari reloads or crashes, you can reproduce it exactly by looking at the ghost image and retyping.

Apple designs hardware and software to work in unison.

Hahahahahaha:D

Ran a 2 minute test on my brand new rMini and didn't see anything. Is that a long enough time to determine? Have they more or less fixed this issue? First 4 of the serial are F4LL. Dunno if anyone has experience with this serial or not.

Is it wifi or 4G ?

It was not long enough. Here's the true test for image retention (all these sites with 15-minute tests are just lame posers). Put your iPad in a safe, route a power cord inside, lock it, and throw the key in the ocean. Leave it on for a YEAR. After a year, cut the safe in half with a torch. Do you see IR? If yes, you have a problem. If no, put it back for another year, maybe one was not enough!

:D

I did it ... Do you really call it a problem worthing a return ?

Only if it happens in real world situations. I have minimal retention issue but quite frankly, I have not been able to notice it during normal use - even while reading with iBooks with various backgrounds (black, white, & sepia).

To be honest, there might be an advantage of having one with the retention issue. From what I read the screen is more vibrant than the non retention ones and one fellow actually decided to keep the one with retention when he compared both.

What do you mean by saying "the screen is more vibrant" ?

Retention is not an issue, is a characteristic of every LCD screen.
There could be some with a real problem (like the one who said that image persist after 20 seconds, which is unacceptable ), but every LCD , especially with fixed images at high brightness for a long time, will have a little retention.
If it doesn't affect your real life usage, I think is silly to perform test like the one suggested here. You are looking for a problem that doesn't exist.

What do you say about zero error panels? I saw many zero error (zero IR) panel.

it doesn't exist such a thing like a perfect display.
Perfection is not a thing of this World ( Megan Fox being an exception :D )
You just saw panels with a less noticeable image retention.

Great definition. I am looking for the less noticeable image retention.
Shyla Stylez is also an exception :)

Obviously I am not about to go through all posts here but for those of you saying you have a serious IR problem after using the IR test, are you staring at the checkerboard screen then switching to gray? If so, you don't have an issue with your device. Your eyes will sort of see that checkerboard. Look at it on your iPad then look at your computer screen.

Also, are you saying you have this issue if you see the checkerboard for longer than say 10 seconds or are you saying you have this issue if you see the checkerboard and then the "impression" goes away?

I think some people aren't understanding how screens work but if you're saying that running this test for 10 minutes, as the site suggests, results in IR that sticks for a great deal of time (over say 30-60 seconds) then maybe there is an issue. Someone would have to weigh in on how long an image would stay on screen under normal use.

I've come to the conclusion that I am doomed.

I am on my fourth iPad Mini and when I went into the Apple Store I've come to find that once you do a replacement through the genius bar it renders the replacement un-returnable.

Which really sucks because if I had known about this I would've just returned the Mini and bought a new one once they were back in stock.

Here are the four Mini Serials with image retention:

DLXLPB (4th, current one I have)
DLXLP6 (3rd one)
DLXLP9 (2nd one)
DLXLN2 (1st one)

Also, I think if I keep doing genius bar repairs I'm going to get DLXN models over and over again.

SO!

I called Apple Care because the store refused to do a refund on my iPad even though I was still within return policy. They called the store and spoke to the manager and he approved it. Got my refund.

So now that I have a clean slate I went ahead and purchased an LTE iPad Mini again. Same series serial number:

DLXLPC...

Still has the image retention problem. On the bright side I can now return this item with no problem. The moral of the story is, if you're still within return policy don't even bother with the genius bar, just return it and move on.

I attached two pictures. Basically I launched the App Store and searched for the Kindle App, waited for it to load and install then opened it. In the Kindle app's gray background you can see the app store icons burned in. The top left is most noticeable. You can almost see the blue amazon logo. So sad

But as I've shown it is a problem in daily usage. I simply went to the app store for a minute to download an application and it happened. It sticks to the screen for about 20 seconds or so.

So here's my take on it, I spent $800 on this device. They advertised it as having a beautiful display, and it does, but it's faulty and it's sad that their quality control isn't up to par with the other iPad models they're selling. When I was on the phone with Apple Care the guy made it sound like this was something incredibly rare but from what I can see on this forum this is a bigger problem.

In my opinion it isn't affecting the usage of your unit in any way, BUT I agree that 20 seconds are quite a lot of time ...

BTW a "bigger problem" ? How many complainers on this and other forums ? 20 ? 200 ? Over a few millions of iPads sold all over the world ?
Rare is the right definition ...
