SO!

I called Apple Care because the store refused to do a refund on my iPad even though I was still within return policy. They called the store and spoke to the manager and he approved it. Got my refund.

So now that I have a clean slate I went ahead and purchased an LTE iPad Mini again. Same series serial number:

DLXLPC...

Still has the image retention problem. On the bright side I can now return this item with no problem. The moral of the story is, if you're still within return policy don't even bother with the genius bar, just return it and move on.

I attached two pictures. Basically I launched the App Store and searched for the Kindle App, waited for it to load and install then opened it. In the Kindle app's gray background you can see the app store icons burned in. The top left is most noticeable. You can almost see the blue amazon logo. So sad

Absolutely terrible !
What is the production week ?

Hello all,

Just my 2 cents..

I just get a new rIpad Mini (64Gb Wifi + Cellular), and did the test of Marco => Image retention !

Otherwise the screen is perfect.

I did the same test but with other solid background colors, and it appears that the image retention only occur with solid greys very close to the one used by the test page of Marco (like one used by the opening page of Kindle reader).

With other solid colours, even slighlty lighter grey, like the one used by a previous poster, there is no image retention at all, as it was mentionned...

The retention eventually fade...

So is it really an issue ?

Is it going to affect your every day usage of the iPad? No. This is why that test is useless for most of us. There are supposedly a few people who claim they see image retention after reading one book page for 20 seconds and seeing the print from that page come through on the next. That is a problem.

My 2 cents, continuing... :)

From what I've read, it's seems that the iPad rMini Cellular is more concerned by the image retention phenomenon...

It could be very interesting to carry a poll with 4 choices:
- rMini Wifi only with IR
- rMini Wifi only without IR
- rMini Wifi+Cellular with IR
- rMini Wifi+Cellular without IR

So that people would like to exchange will be aware of their chance to have a screen without IR dependind upon their iPad model.
I bet that 75-80% of Cellular are affected...
Mine was manufactured week 51.

Btw, as I said, I confirm the retention is only noticeable when switching to a specific range of greyish solid background.
Grey backgrounds somewhat lighter or darker that the one used in the test show no IR.
And no IR at all on pure white, black, blue, red, green, etc...

After some hours of use, I can say the IR is nearly not noticeable during normal use, except if you search or provoke it.
Btw, far less annoying that uneven colors/brightness or dead pixels...

I also tested 4 others iPad (one 2, one 3 and two Mini not Retina) and all showed some IR, except the 3...

Given all this, I consider IR in the rMini is not a fault, but rather a technical lilmit of one of the new screen type used by Apple... Like color/brightness uniformity, backlighting bleeding are on other types...

Ironically, screens showing IR seems very good at color/brightness uniformity and backlighbleeding... At least it's the case of mine...

Just got my 5th LTE mini, ghosting + uneven color on the screen!

Week 47 Foxconn

Given what I suspect (see my previous posts above), I think the chance to get now a Cellular rMini with no IR is small...

Also, remember hundreads thousands of people happily use an iPad with IR... either they never/hardly noticed it or they simply found it unsignifiant...

I think, I will give up trying...

He does have a point. How many are you going to buy and return given that almost all of them have IR?

At what point would you purchase a different tablet given the shortcoming of the Rimini?

The overwhelming majority of rMini owners are not OCD about IR.

You obviously are. So why not get a nexus 7 or Samsung or HDX. These tablets do not have this problem.

Totally agree...

According to a poll on the iMore website, 44% of rMini have IR, probalby most of them are LTE/Cellular.
56% have not, probably mostly Wifi only.
I agree it's a guess but from what I read over the Internet, LTE models seems the most affected.
Another poll would be needed to confirm.

Btw, this evening, I did some reading in iBook.
Using the 3 backgrounds available (white, sepia, black) and taking intentionnaly a -very- long time between pages, lookingh closely there was no sign of IR at all.

IR appears only in specific circumstances. And even then, most of the time, you've to look for it to notice.

Looks more and more like a "no issue", except if you're indeed a little OCD about it (I can understand, I'm a little myself ;-) )...

All iPad models have suffered from IR, and Apple has not changed its screen porviders.
The rMini has a wonderfull display but if you want a totally IR free screen without exchanging 5,6,7... times, then you should switch to another tablet... for now at least...

I received my new rMini today and I don't have IR. Neither I have any other problems with the screen.

Nice ;-)

Did you make the Marco test or is it just a conclusion of your normal use ?
Btw, you don't have to do this test...

Just curious, what is your model and S/N ?

Thanx
