Most iMac and IPS monitor that I saw has the bottom 1/3 yellowish.. Weird

What you've seen may be something about the manufacturer of the specific IPS panels. I have two Asus 24" IPS LCDs for my work PC - both are uniformly white to my eyes - but both are probably from the same manufacturer (LG, maybe).

The IPS technology itself isn't known for having color variations or anything. If anything, it's the opposite. The color reproduction and viewing angles are the selling point of IPS with black levels and response times being their weaknesses.

If there's anything that IPS displays normally suffer from (just as a technology), it's whitish glow in the corners when viewed from an angle. At first, it looks like backlight bleed, but it shifts as you move around and usually disappears entirely when you get directly in front of an inline with the display.

Four ipad mini retina LTE here, and four returned to Apple Store.
Today I went and have returned the money, they told me to wait two weeks to receive a new shipment, and re-buy it.
The 4 that I bought started by serial number and are manufactured in F4KLV pegatron.
My wife's is made with serial foxconn DLXLQ and looks perfect.

I picked up and F4KL today after goodness knows how many and it's the best one yet.

For those of you who have good screens, can you please take a picture in landscape mode with the split-screen keyboard and post it?

I'm just trying to determine if there are any screens out there where the white at the top is generally the same as the white at the bottom. I really don't care at all about the overall tint - just looking for uniformity.

The only reason I'm asking this is to decide whether I should exchange the iPad for a new one and try my luck, or just see if I can learn to live with the unevenness.

Before I get called out for being OCD, I should note that I've had many, many Apple products over the years, including iPads, and this would be my very first exchange or return if I choose to do it.

When browsing with the iPad in landscape mode, or reading a book, the constant shift in tint is very distracting.

Seriously, these issues are unacceptable for a premium device.

I had an iPad3 and twice had to get it replaced (yellow screen, dead motion sensor).

I also had to replace my iPad mini twice (yellow screen, dust under glass, still waiting on replacement).

Also my iPhone 4S speaker died.

I will not buy any more apple products.

I got a f4kl today.. Worst screen ever! Terrible light bleeding (I can live with light bleed, but it's the worst one from all I had before) + massive yellow tint... New exchange is coming :(

massive yellow tint all over the screen or 1/2, 2/3 or so?

I just picked mine on saturday and no issues. No yellow screen or retention on normal usage. My first retina mini.

As I continue to use my rMini, I just can't tolerate how uneven the screen is. Browsing in landscape mode is out of the question because it's so distracting. I'm going to try exchanging for a new one next week, and if that one is a dud, I'll just hold off on getting an ipad for a while.

I've been looking at other devices as alternatives for example Amazon's Kindle HDX both the 7 and the 8.9 and they have screens that make our iPads look perfect. They're yellow and blotchy and disgusting.

So my conclusion is that we're at the edge of the cost quality equation here and that if we want better screens the devices need to get much more expensive. Even a Samsung device I have which are generally good has some noticeable yellow patches.

I would pay a little more for a better screen

I never thought I'd miss my old iPad 2 so much, it had an almost perfect screen. Now here I am with the "amazing" retina display, half white.. half yellow, I don't know if I'll ever get used to, though I am tired of returning iPads.

Funny thing is, I got 3 iPad Minis (normal), and they all have great screens.

Are other tablet manufacturers having these screen issues? I haven't checked personally. I always go straight to the Apple stuff whenever I'm in a tech store.

Users reporting bad Air & rMini screens is all over the internet. surley this can't be just a handful of people with bad luck. I'm amazed that this is not being picked up by tech media.

I had a Nexus 7 2013 and the display on that was pretty much perfect. Sharp, completely uniform, and very bright. I also had the original ipad mini and aside from not being a retina screen, it looked great and was very even.

I'm considering going back to the Nexus 7 for now and living with Android's shortcomings because that screen was a pleasure to look at.

A few people bitching on a forum won't get "picked up" by tech media. The vast majority of issues are noted on apple-centric forums, where people tend to over-exagerate, or expect quality not possible from a mass produced device.

If you search for "iPad n screen" replacing n with anything from 1 to 4, mini, retina or air, you will find people on here complaining. Most normal people would just buy it and enjoy it, most people on MR look for tiny faults as a reason to go through 4 devices, before saying "they'll never buy anything Apple makes again", before doing the exact same thing the next generation.

Yesterday, after change mi fourth iPad for iTunes card, go to Media Markt.
Check all the Samsung displays (note 8, galaxy tab 8, note 10.1... And ALL the displays looks perfect with no tints and issues.

I agree that some of the screens on the iPad Air and rMini are problematic - I had 3 Airs with yellow screens, but when I go to the Apple store all the screens on the display devices look perfect too. I hope you are able to find a device that you are happy with.

I agree man, I am not one of those people that do screen tests, nor have I ever returned an Apple product before, but the Air and Rmini screen issues are very noticable. I did not even know about it when I walked in to a couple of stores in November and noticed that all but one of the Air's on display had a gray shadow on the left part of the screen. five people from work bought Rminis, four have returned their rminis due to the the screen being yellow, and these are coworkers In Their 40s That do not hang around on apple forums.

maybe just coinsidens but to me it seems like everytime someone I know buys an Air or a Rmini they end up returning it due to the screen.

It would be nice to see some real statistics though.

you might expect to time to re-buy the mini? I said two weeks, but can not wait.
I guess Apple is aware of these problems and will solve.

I just swapped out my rMini for another, this one is a week 52 and its definitely better than my last one (week 4x) but its still incredibly noticiable. I am going to wait about 25 days and swap it out. I'm hoping the longer I wait maybe this will be resolved. Who knows, It's just extremely annoying.

I will say that the light leakage is horrible on this one though, its all blotchy on the bottom of the screen and everything looks washed out. So this one may be better in turns of the yellow hue but fails in the other categories.

I may wait for late January or early February to buy a unit manufactured in 2014.
Wait for you around here in the forum and buy either week 1, 2, 3 ....
