My Space Gray 128GB ATT rMini is DLXLQ and arrived yesterday directly from China. 3 days total shipping time. I have what is more of a backlight shadow at the very bottom near the home button. Otherwise the screen is nearly even. So much for serial numbers.

Returned my first mini which was a DLXL. Had obvious lower half yellowing and a dead pixel. Bought another replacement and this one (a week 45 FK4L) is vastly improved. MUCH more uniform and no dead pixels nor image retention. Very happy with it. Yes the gamut is inferior to the Air but I don't mind much.

Will gladly give that up for a uniform screen. Not sure if it's IGZO or not but not really fussed.

Definitely a keeper.

so... Do the displays get better? Or why is this thread dead? I've exchanged 3 times and finally got my refund.. I was so sick of yellow screens. I've waited 3 weeks right now. Is it worth it to give it a new try?

I've given up. Have tried three different rMinis. All three have been yellowish at the bottom shifting to bluish at the top. Will either return the third for refund or just sell it on eBay if BestBuy won't take it back.

Have a feeling that color perception differs enough from person to person that some people genuinely can't see the issue and others (like me) simply can't NOT see it.

The problem is just too distracting not to interfere with usage. When reading or browsing, my focus is drawn away from the content and to the color shift.

This batch of iPads is the worst I've known. Screen quality is shocking. It's the Air and the rMini.

My first now had it but received an online order which is flawless to my eye. The other halfs rmini still has a little yellow in the bottom corner but she has never mentioned it. I may switch it out after the new year.

I exchanged my Air (that had a virtually perfect display) for a rMini that I just picked up today at the Apple Store in Nashville. With some anxiety after reading all these posts, I turned it on and set it up. I'm happy to say that it's absolutely perfect and beautiful. Yes, the colors are a little less saturated than the Air's (which bordered on OVER-saturated), but I wouldn't call it "washed-out" by any stretch. The display is very bright and beautiful, super-sharp, with no hint of yellowing anywhere. I've tried the test found here and it looks great. Mine is a DLXLR serial #, Week 48 (Dec.), so maybe the display issues are being corrected.

Sounds not that bad.. I will give it a try in the first weeks of january! And hope I will FINALLY get a good one! I love the rMini and miss it so much..

Sorry to jack your thread but what kinds of tests can I carry out to see whether my iPad Air isn't colour defected?

I'd say if it looks fine to you be happy and keep it. The ones I've not been happy with have all looked very obviously poor with yellow patches and bright patches being the main issue and all these very noticeable without any testing.

Another way of saying if you have to try to find the problem, you don't have a problem.

You don't need any tests.. You see it straight away if you've got a yellow-tinted screen ;) If don't see anything, enjoy your ipad!

Ahh I see - thanks for your fast replies! Fingers crossed when I get my iPad on Monday I hope I don't encounter the yellow-tinted screen of death ;D

Well, i've got my 4th mini now (had 3 32GB wifi-imodels, all with light bleeding and yellow screens and got my refund at the end), the 4th one i bought is a 16GB wifi-model and it's seemed to be good, still some light bleeding, but since i don't notice that during the daily use, its not an issue. the screen is also quite good and quite uniform (production week is 49). but here it comes: i've got a strange BLUEISH band/border/bar whatsoever on the top of the screen!! oh dear, thats annoying, especially while reading on ibooks, its like on the new kindle.. exchanging it now :/ hope to get one from 51st or 52nd production week, these seem to get better if you ask me..

I had something that sounds similar, the top of the screen was brighter when reading iBooks and kindle app. Really noticeable using sepia. Turning the iPad upside down, flipping it 180 balanced it out some what. Returned it as not happy. Using it sometimes my eyes hurt from the bright spot.

Mine is week 48 (Dec.) production from Foxconn, and the display is perfect - uniform, no discolored areas, bright and sharp.

iPad 1 is half greenish. iPad 2 has a very thin yellowish left border. Replaced iPad 3 four times until I gave up. Replaced iPad 4 and mini until I gave up.

Really, there is no perfect screen and the more you replace it the more tired and frustrated you get, so now my first iPad Air is 90% fine, half an inch of my right edge is yellowish, not that visible, I am not all satisfied, but I know if I replace it I'll get a worse one.

My 2008 iMac is super yellow. My 2013 iMac has bottom 1/3 yellow. My Sony Bravia XBR 929 right 1/4 yellow. My Vaio S is yellow/pink.

If you have a not perfect, but decent screen, keep it. I'll post a picture later.

Would you please post a picture? after having bought three Airs with different production weeks and in different countries, I have little faith that there are any perfect displays. I'd love to be proven wrong!

This is my experience too. Although I'm not particularly satisfied with my current ipad air display (slight shadow on left, slightly darker left and bottom, warm-ish whites), the overall impression is decent. No yellowing on mine. The other two I bough had a very distracting yellow tint on the left.

I think I'll keep this one. The only other option is not to have an Air at all since I don't want to spend more time replacing.

Oops...just saw that this is a mini thread, sorry. I tried a mini retina too and sent it back because of poor viewing angles and a very yellow display.

Mine is an Air as well. To tell you the truth I'm tempted to replace mine, but I spent years using an iPad 2 because I would replace 3/4/mini forever, just to decide there are not good displays and take me money back.

I'm reading this on my iPhone and there's a yellowish tint on the top. Of the screen that extends about 1/4 an inch. Clearly there is a problem with the manufacturing of the screen or the assembly process or both that is causing these defects on retina displays. There must be some display experts on here who can chime in?

Funny enough, I noticed that a 27" Dell IPS has yellowish tint on part of the screen too!

Most iMac and IPS monitor that I saw has the bottom 1/3 yellowish.. Weird

My iPhone 5S is exactly the same.

I don't know if this will work for everyone, but I had a definite yellow tint towards the bottom of my ipad, and this seemed to help.

I downloaded an all-white image, loaded it up on the ipad, and set it to max brightness with the charger plugged in. Did this on and off throughout the day for probably a total of 4-5 hours.

Definite improvement. It's at the point where I cannot visibly see any more tinting. I plan to do this a few more times tomorrow and then leave it for a few days to see if the yellow comes back.

Again, I'm not claiming this is THE solution, or even that it will work for anybody else, but based on my results, I do think it's worth a try.

I do still have the slight bluish shadow across the very top of the screen like someone else mentioned above, but it's not bad at all and certainly not as distracting as the unevenness was. Right now, I'm very happy with the way my display looks and wouldn't consider returning it. Time will tell...

Nevermind... I still have yellow tint at the bottom. I can't see the tint during normal usage EXCEPT for when I'm reading on the Kindle app. That's when it becomes very apparent.

The best way I found to show this issue to someone else is to open a blank Safari screen in landscape mode and show the split keyboard.

I'm torn about what to do since I have doubts about the possibility of getting a perfectly even screen after reading all the reports here and on Apple discussions.

Meanwhile, my Nexus 7 screen was perfectly uniform (and insanely bright), but I just couldn't get used to Android.
