Looks like the F4KL ones are the decent ones perhaps with a Samsung Screen. And not the Foxconn builds but Pegatron-Protek.

I think it's unlikely Samsung is currently being used to produce rMini screens. It would take them months to ramp up production on a completely new screen.

Been using mine for a bit today.

The 'yellowing' isn't THAT bad on mine. It's just that it goes from a bluish white to a slightly off-white near the bottom. It is a very subtle gradient, but still noticeable on pure white Apps.

To be honest my iMac has the same effect, and I learned to deal with it, as toting a 25lb machine all over isn't ideal.

I think it may be down to viewing angle more than anything as when I tilt the iPad towards me from the top, the top portion goes off-white as well.

They really should have backlit from both sides/top to bottom (where are the backlights?) to offset this effect.

I'm not sure any are going to be much different than the one I have.

Perhaps I'll get Apple to send me a replacement, and choose the best out of the two.

But I'm definitely not going through the same debacle I went through with the iPad 3.

I suppose I could live with it if they are all pretty much this way. The non-retina mini, though even, now hurts my eyes. lol.

And I have heard that some people lose the gradient with use. The iPad 3's were no word of a lie, piss yellow in the corners stretching out at least 1/4 of the screen.

Well, I didn't listen to my own advice and it seems to have paid off. I decided to exchange at lunch, and the guy who saw me was very helpful. I brought it out, opened Safari and he said "Yeah, I see it immediately." He also said he had gone through three iPad 3s for a similar issue, so he understood completely. They brought out a new one, let me open it and test it, and it's about as close to perfect as one is likely to get I'd imagine. Looks even and clear. Did a straight box for box exchange.

FWIW, the new one is an F4KL serial.

What do you guys think ? Is this a keeper ? I`m tired of exchanging my ipads. This is the best of 4. All others were worse.
BTW: Home Button is on the left.

Pants. So it is completely random then. It's a disgrace. I could almost reconcile it with a cheap £100 tablet but not a £400 one.

It's not random. It probably has to do with the location of the edge lit backlights (at top). Everyone with good eyes sees the tint. I don't think the maker of the panel matters. We'll see yellow tint until they make changes to the edge lit panel.

On mine I can see the subdue tint. I don't think returning it will get me a better screen. I'm keeping mine and trade for a better model in the future with better gamut screen and touch ID.

I think your golden, it's a keeper! Funny, I think the more even toned screens have a warmer feel to them. I really wonder what's the difference between them.

Yellow tint SOLVED

I am not sure why, but my solution is being deleted on official forums.
Here is what you have to do: place both hands on your Ipad Air or mini and twist the case as if you were wringing a wet towel.
Don't be scared breaking the device as it is pretty elastic. The screen will show some liquid effects but the results will be amazing. My screen is perfect now. Now book spine an no yellow tint!!!!

Is that sarcasm or is my display just not showing it correctly?

Don't know.....bring your display over to my house and I'll take a look.

To me....top right and bottom left blocks don't match in color, bottom left has yellow tinting. That would bother me IF it's noticeable in usage.

It's a freaking 7.9" screen.....Apple should be able to find SOMEONE to produce them evenly (although apparently not).

Thanks for your answers.
There is a small yellow tint on the left. Barely visible. Depends on the lightning condition to see it or not.
But coming from 3 rMinis with bad yellow tints this is the best I`ve seen so far.
Must be some kind of selling strategy: we accept faulty devices because they are at least better than the crappy ones. :D

Just received two rMini DLXL from Apple.com over the last two days. Both screens are much better than the 3 iPad Airs I ended up returning. The Air screens were so yellow on the left side it was distracting. The rMinis both have what I would describe as a shadow on the bottom near the home button. It's pretty quick drop off to the normal white screen.

I think it's my screen then because I can't tell much difference. Maybe on a better monitor (and definitely in person) I'd be able to tell.
As for Apple getting it right, I completely agree.

Well I received my Kindle Fire HDX today and it has a blue tinge that is uniform down both sides. The difference is that Amazon admit that it is there and advise that it's due to the 100% colour gamut aim. And it was £200. So for me, this and the Air work.

We don't take screenshots because the issue is hardware related. The digital picture being rendered is fine and will not show an issue, which what the screenshot captures.

Because think.

I am sorry that I am not to the exacting standards of your intelligence. Please forgive me.

Follow up question: under what lighting condition should the picture be taken? Incandescent? Neon? Natural sunlight? Does it make a difference?

The lighting condition does not matter as much as even lighting so the tint contrast is visible. If you want it your picture to represent what you see in person, then you need use white balance adjustments on your camera.

FWIW, is it possible my issue of the shadow is related to warm up? I've noticed that the shadow seems to fade after extended use.

Well, I've gone through 5 Retina Mini's between myself and a family member now. All of them have had uneven white backgrounds. Meanwhile I can go on my girlfriends original iPad Mini and it's such a pleasure to have a balanced white screen on it. I actually prefer using it as I'm not getting distracted by any yellow. My dilemma has become wait a month or two and see if it'll get fixed over time but reading some of the backlighting comments has got me thinking this is a design flaw. Maybe they weren't able to fit as many lights near the home button. I'll probably go to my local Staples and get an original iPad Mini for $250 for their Black Friday sale. I'm just tired of product testing :( I will miss how fast the Retina model is and how sharp text is. It's okay, next year I'll play the game again and hopefully they'll have gotten it together :p

To anyone still unsure if they should keep theirs I got a fantastic test for you: flip your mini upside down for 10 minutes of use. Open up couple things to test: a few white websites, notes, calendar, iMessage, type with keyboard etc. Then go back to the right way with home button on bottom. If you notice a difference and it's annoying, don't hesitate, return or exchange it. If you don't notice a difference or it's not a big deal, enjoy your new Retina iPad Mini :D

People should really stop posting pictures asking for people's advice. It doesn't matter what we think, you're the one that has to live with the device. Does it bother you? Can you live with it? Through the 5 Retina Mini's I've had, I've seen yellow on the bottom 1/4, yellow on the bottom left corner and now on the one I'm typing on its got a pink! on the left side, annoying!

Yes, I think so. We noticed after having been using the Mini for a while the yellow blended in better over time. A screen shouldn't need 20-30 minutes before it reaches optimum viewing pleasure though

Edit: typing all this out has made me realize how disappointed I am with the Retina mini. I've been flipping between holding it the right way with home button on bottom and upside down and the yellow near the home button and the pink on the left side has really stood out, definitely giving up on this generation of Mini. Bad parts, bad design or bad manufacturing. I've purchased ~25 Apple items in my life. This is the first return I ever did, to do 5 returns tells you something is bad.

We'll my rMini that I purchased yesterday with slight yellow on the bottom is now annoying me. Didn't think it was too bad at first, but now I'm noticing it more.

Called my Apple Store, none in stock and no idea when a replacement will arrive. Guy said he will fake a genius appointment and get me a warranty replacement in a few days. Will see how that one is.

The iPad Mini /w retina I received today has a perfectly even display, but there is the FAINTEST image retention using the IR test page. It's so faint with the extreme IR test that I don't think I'm ever going to see it normal use.

It's a keeper. Serial starts DLXLQ - meaning it was manufactured last week, i.e. it’s from a very fresh batch.

The odd thing is, I ordered it from the online Apple Store on November 22nd, it shipped in two days directly from China, and it arrived today. That’s a day short of ONE WEEK from order to delivery (to Finland). Amazing.

As for the display issues, apparently Apple are using two display technologies with the retina iPad Mini: IGZO (IPS) and a-Si Backplane (FFS). See the specs table at:

http://www.iclarified.com/35866/ret...ent-significantly-outperformed-by-competitors

This could explain why 1) some suffer from uneven screen tint with no image retention, and 2) some have perfectly even screen coloration but show image retention to varying degrees. Luckily, mine has so faint IR that I can live with it, even though I’m quite “OCD” when it comes to display quality.

On another note, compared to my iPad Air, the iPad Mini’s colors are indeed a bit subdued. In all honestly, most people won’t notice it unless they have the iPad Air (or iPad 2/3/4 with better gamut) and Mini side-by-side.
