Just wanted to try and balance some of the crazy- Just received my 128gb Retina mini wifi after ordering day one. I ran the image retention test, tested for dead pixels, and sat and stared at a white screen next to a blank piece of paper looking for yellow.

My screen is perfect. And, as a layman, I don't even notice the color gamut "deficiency".

I'm happy. :D

For comparison sake I attach a picture of a rMini screen which I think is about as good as your going to get.

I agree. I had to go through half a dozen to get one without dead pixels and dust particles and the final one that i got was almost identical to the one you have posted. My rMini had a bit more yellowing toward the bottom and it was quite noticeable when using white backgrounds. I decided to go and return the rMini as the yellow screen took away from the joy of using a new gadget. All in all, i think that this is as good as it gets.

My screen seems to be pretty much perfect.

Also the colours seem better than that of my 1st gen iPad mini. They pop more, and reds are 'redder'.

Oddly after sitting overnight, there is now a distinct blue-white to yellow gradient from top to bottom.

Honestly it looked fine yesterday :(

I don't know what to do at this point, as I already went through numerous iPad 3's with the similar issues.

I seem to have had a similar experience. It looked fine when I powered it on last Friday and by Sunday, it was showing a distinct blue/white/yellow north to south tint.

I'm fed up now and today I've ordered a Kindle Fire HDX 7.0 for my book and bed media consumption and I'll use my Air for out and about. It's 50% cheaper like for like too. Not as pretty but hopefully it'll have a decent screen for reading on.

Got 2 new rMini's yesterday which I ordered online from the Apple store. First 2 which I bought as soon as they hit the Apple store shelves I had to return as the yellow on the bottom 1/4 of the screens was really bad. These new ones that came straight from China are definitely better but I'm not sure if I'm going to keep them. One is for a family member so I'll let them decide if it bothers them but the one I was keeping for myself I can still see a slight yellow on the bottom left corner/left side. It's really subtle and I'm sure most people would think I'm crazy but to me I spent $500 on this thing(32GB model), I expect it to be perfect. My girlfriends original Mini has no problem with an uneven white background and I've been using it for a few weeks so it's hard to go to something that's worse. Will use mine for a few days and decide later.

On the positive side, text on the Retina display is just gorgeous.

You only notice it if you have it side by side with an iPad Air or iPhone. On it's own it looks just fine. Have it beside another device and compare the following icons and you'll notice right away: iMessage, iTunes, App Store, Music.

I don't think it's a huge difference but it definitely exists. I didn't let it hold me back from buying the rMini though.

Hey guys, i've got a question to people, who already have good screens:

Did one of you got your rMini from Shenzhen, China? At the moment I'm exchanging my rMini. Today I've received an email, that my rMimi (replacement) was already sent today, so I've checked UPS-Status and my rMini comes from Shenzhen, China like my first rMini did. So now I'm afraid of getting a rMini with same display issues :/ But i guess all of rMini's get manufactured in China? But still.. Maybe different cities :D

Don't they all come from Shenzen?

Can't be annoyed with this this consent merry go round of trying to get a good one!

Feel the same. I'll try a second time but I refuse to do a third time. I don't have time for this quality assurance testing :p

If the second one I have now gets returned I'm getting an original Mini and using it for a year in hopes next year things get better with the yellow screen. Disappointed in Apple for this and as much as I don't want to give them my money for this screw up the tablets by the competition I just found really underwhelming. Ugly and cheap feeling plastic :(

That's exactly what mine is like - bottom left quarter yellow and at first you don't notice it but then when you start reading Kindle or iBooks it gets really annoying.

My screen is disgusting. I cannot bear to even look at it. It's the most yellow screen I've ever laid eyes on.

I bought it from John Lewis but they have no stock to exchange, so I took it to the Apple store. They looked at it and agreed it was pretty bad so said they would exchange it but because I bought it elsewhere they had to order a replacement & I couldn't have one from in store. Was told on Thursday it would be there Saturday. Called Monday, told it would be in Tuesday. Called Tuesday and have now been told that it could take weeks. WEEKS. Now thinking of just returning the whole thing and forgetting all about it.

Here's my two. The 64GB (left) I just opened looks more uniform but is tinted yellow all over and looks a lot duller than the original 32GB I got - which to be honest after as couple of days use only now has a slight tint at the bottom right corner.

Gonna see if I can swap the 64 for a final go
Any views ppl?

I found image retention in my iPad rMini.

After the image retention test, I have realized that I can see

slight image retention in my iPad mini retina screen.

Should I go for an exchange? (I do not want a replacement, I want a

brand new device) or should I just use it?

What do you guys think?

and I can return my iPad mini retina by Jan. 7.

Do you guys think we can purchase iPad mini retina without waiting by

then? Apples store is too far away from where I live so my only option is

to order it from Apple online store, but I really hate to wait.

Hmmm - the left is more even as you say but still a horrible sepia colour. Frankly it's disgraceful that Apple are letting these devices out of the factory. They're are clearly not ready for selling yet. We may see an iPad 3/4 fiasco where the device is quietly updated with new screen technology.

My second device looks like the one on the right and it's going back to the Apple Store tomorrow. My Kindle Fire HDX 7.0 gets delivered tomorrow as a replacement for these disgusting screens. My rMini was my reading/consumption device and I can't accept these horrible screens. My Air while not perfect is much much nicer in terms of screen tone and evenness.

I've owned every iPad including the first Mini and I'll being skipping this one because of the screen issues.

I have to agree that the retina mini clearly has a major display issue. Those photos I posted don't really show the difference as visible to the naked eye. It's like looking at 2 difference devices - which is the view of several family members I have asked to view them side by side.

I will swap the 64GB tomorrow at apple store if stock permits. I will be demanding a full retail box as I once lost the sale on a old iPhone I had previously exchanged as the buyer noticed the box serial number didn't match the device!

My new rMini also has some yellowing at the bottom, slightly slanted to the lower left is a little more yellow than the lower right.

When I look for it, it bugs the crap out of me. When I focus on the content, I forget about it. I would try an exchange, but by the sound of it, the chances it would be the same or worse is pretty high. It's not terrible on mine, and I don't have any image retention, so I probably have a better than average display from the sound of it.

I don't want to do a billion exchanges. I'll wait until we start seeing a high percentage of even displays before swapping. In all other respects, it's gorgeous.

Mine's a DLXL like most here.

EDIT: I do have to say, though, as the days wear on, it's either fading a bit so it's not as bad, or my brain is naturally compensating, as I don't notice it as much any more. I do think I have one of the more minor flawed ones, so I'll sit it out for a while and see if they start getting perfect screens in soon.

You do realize that the ghost image fades within minutes...

You do realize that the odds of you getting another one that does the same thing are quite high.

You do realize that this is not a defect in a few random units, but rather an inherent quality of at least some of the LCD panels used in the Mini.

You do realize that when you get a replacement for a product that is less than a month old, you ARE getting a brand new one, in a white box, with no charger or cable.

Returned my yellow patch rMini to the Apple Store. Staff member couldn't see it. The display models I checked were the same. So clearly I'm looking at it wrong. Anyway, not acceptable to me.

I bought an rMini last night. The screen is yellow overall, but more yellow along the home button edge. It's not as bad as the pic looks, but it is noticeable even without looking for it. My Air's screen looks blue in comparison.

*** I'm typing this on the rMini, and now the keyboard is NOT yellow across the bottom of the screen in portrait mode, along both long edges. My Air's screen is sometimes yellow, and sometimes not. WEIRD!?!?!

F4KL serial here.

Purchased yesterday from Apple Store 5th Avenue. No yellowing and uniformity is really good.

Very pleased. :D

I had a DLXLM unit that I purchased from Apple on release day. The screen had blue edges along the top and right sides (some on the left as well) which was very apparent with any white iOS elements (mail, Safari, etc.). The screen also looked 'yellow-ish' along the bottom.

I finally made a Genius Bar appointment yesterday and they saw it right away. Since it was within the two week purchase period they exchanged for a new retail boxed iPad. This one is a F4KL and the screen is fantastic. Uniform white and no blue light bleed.

Here are the specs: Nice Name: iPad Mini Retina
Family name:
Group1: iPadMini
Group2:
Generation: 2
Screen size: 7.9 inch
Screen resolution: 2048x1536 pixels
Production year: 2013
Production week: 47 (November)
Model introduced: 2013
Capacity: 32GB
Memory - flavour: xx
Factory: F4 (China, Shanghai - Pegatron-Protek)

In my case my rMini screen has a nice even tone. It also shows some image retention when tested however I haven't noticed it during normal use. Knowing if I exchange my rMini the replacement unit might be better but it could also be a lot worst. So I'm going to keep it and not look back.

So it's totally your call at this point.

This looks the same as mine. Yellow was predominately in the bottom left of the screen. Yours looks the same.

Looks like the F4KL ones are the decent ones perhaps with a Samsung Screen. And not the Foxconn builds but Pegatron-Protek.
