I will be sticking with my 2G Unlocked iPhone. I was hoping for a good rate plan so I could start using data on my phone.
I refuse to pay Rogers data rates!!!!

I switched to Rogers a few months ago when I got an iPhone. It has been a very negative experience, I would not recommend them to anyone!!

I cannot wait for new carriers to come into the market place and shake up the wireless landscape in Canada.

Terrible

Apple... trick out the touch please, with those extra sensors and gps so that I can use the iphone apps without needing an iphone, huh?

And... while you're at it, why don't you sell the iphone unlocked right now to the rest of the oligopoly in Canada... at least then we'll have the illusion of choice and plans that vary by 5 or 10 dollars, making us at least *feel* like we get a good deal!

i like how everyone is not that outraged about 2 1/2 hours voice for $60 but rather the limited data. if there was no "system access fee" and absurd value plan shifting it to $90/month, ie. voice mail and caller id included on a 2 year contract i would pay it.

will it be possible to add a data plan to an existing voice plan ? theres no way im giving up my voice plan.

Also, how reliable are the rogers hotspots ? if there are many of them then maybe most of the surfing will be via them and not eating into the data plan rates....

Petition signing

Signing a petition was a good idea, until some readers spammed it.
I can easily understand the frustration of those readers and wanting their point to get through, but spamming takes away the seriousness of the petition as far as I'm concerned.

Ridiculous pricing

ARE THEY KIDDING ME!!! Rogers is going to charge $60/month for the data plan which is not even an unlimited plan!! 400 mb etc. not to mention the expensive voice plans!!

I pay $40 for the voice plan and $20 for data (unlimited) and 200 text messages down here in the US on a two year contract!!

The cellphone industry in canada is ripping off the Canadian public!!

The problem in the Canadian wireless industry is because of a foreign-competitor lockout.

We've decided in Canada, that allowing foreign companies to compete in the telecommunication, banking and media sectors is just not allowed.

The only chance of this changing, quite honestly, would be if the Conservative Party got a majority government, and even then, I'm not so sure they'd rock the boat. I can tell you right now, that neither the Liberal Party or the NDP would be interested in removing ownership restrictions over these things because of the perceived threat of the "American takeover" of Canadian phone companies.

Many Conservatives, especially old Red Tories share these protectionist leanings and have no desire to liberalize these foreign ownership laws as they would see doing so as a risk to Canadian jobs.

The basic political calculus: it's better to have tens of thousands of Canadians employed at Rogers, with less competition, and less consumer choice, than it is to have an American company not-employing as many Canadians and competing against Canadian-owned interests.

So nobody hold your breath for anything to change.

Canadians don't realize how good things are with USA next door. Try living in Australia for a while and see how much things costs when you're isolated.

Take away Costco, Safeway, Home Depot, Sears, Starbucks and any other American company presence and you'll find prices will go up, up and away!

No Suprise Here

Exactly as I expected from Rogers, very limited yet very expensive plans. $100 (with access fees, taxes, call display) and 3 years minimum!

And Apple becoming just another phone maker, playing the same game as everyone else (original iPhone terms that Apple forced on operators were at least some progress, unlimited data for example).

My advice to fellow Canadians ... forget petitions, vote with your wallets and ignore iPhone 3G by Rogers. It may be device of the future but it's paired to terms of the past.

Time to understand geography:

Australia has a population of around 21 million, while Canada's population is around 32 million. Australia is one of the world's largest countries by size, and yet Australians don't get raped on charges.

Class dismissed.

Actually Australians get raped on charges for everything else: internet, automobiles, tv, groceries etc.

Australia is only cheaper than Canada when it comes to mobile phone usage because there's competition.

But with an economic depression coming in the near future in the US, maybe it would be smart to block the American companies from taking over our Wireless providers

ok hope this not a issue its f**kyourogers.com I'm sure you can guess the middle 2. A petition even though you think its a hate site haha

When the US economy catches a cold, the Canadian economy get the flu :(

Costco - often more expensive compared to Superstore
Safeway - often more expensive compared to Superstore, Save-on Foods, Thrifty Foods
Sears - limited selection, poorer quality yet not cheaper than Hudson's Bay.
Starbucks - Some people prefer Serious Coffee, Blenz, Mirage Coffee or Tim Horton's.

I'll keep my universal healthcare and slightly less corrupt government thanks.

As for this Rogers plan, I'm not too happy about it but it is better than before and Caller ID can be added on by itself outside of a value pack.

And Wal-Mart just cannot compare to- oh......

This is an own goal in many ways. Rogers isn't going to sell many phones with this pricing, and they will have to reduce rates to attract customers, thus annoying the heck out of people who signed up for the 3 year rip off.

Yup, I say one month or sooner from the July 11th launch date.

Rating (51 Positives; 1472 Negatives)

3.34% Positive / 96.66% Negative. That's impressive. Rogers has really taken customer satisfaction to a whole other level.

I mean, after having a whole day to let this sink in... you really just have to stand in awe of how boneheaded of a decision coming out with rates like this was. Absolute awe.

You know, they probably could have gotten away without unlimited data, if they'd at least come up with some sane plans.

Say...
$75 for 250 minutes and 2GB of data.
$100 for 600 minutes and 3GB of data.
$120 for 800 minutes and 6GB of data.

... and included voicemail and call display in the plans

We'd probably all be much more pacified... not thrilled... but pacified.

To be honest, that's the kind of pricing I was expecting. I would have been upset not to see unlimited, but I think most people would have been willing to live with numbers like that... 2GB for $75... we'd be willing to cope.

But the fact is that 150 minutes + 400MB + Voicemail + Tax + B.S. SAF Charge is basically only a few dollars shy of $100 ($96), you just have to stand in absolute awe of how boneheaded this is. They're complete idiots.

All companies are greedy. They want to make the most money for the least cost. Sure. But most companies have a vague sense of customer service, and the importance of how that plays into customer retention long term.

When real GSM competitors emerge to Rogers in the next 12 months (and it looks like there will be 2 based on the spectrum auction)... Rogers is going to decimated. They've ruined their reputation so badly.

The BIGGEST reason why Rogers has gotten as big as they have is they don't require a credit check to activate phone service with them. Where-as, both Telus and Bell require like $1000-$2500 deposits for people who don't have good credit, or have little credit without a cosigner.
