how's this
The Financial Post picked up the story that ran today in the Vancouver Sun:

I point this out only because I know some of us are happy to see the continued pressure on Roger over their pricing. (I also noticed that ruinediphone.com is now over 50k signatures, not that Rogers cares.)
Of course none of it matters at this point. Rogers isn't going to back down on pricing before friday so I'm afraid we're stuck with this pricing for now. However I still maintain that with the current pricing Rogers is going to fail to get any real sales penetration with the iPhone in Canada. After the initial wave of interest sales are going drop dramatically because the monthly bill is simply too costly and there's a point at which the average consumer says "too rich for my blood." And it'll have nothing to do with the bad press, they've simply over estimated what Canadians are willing to pay. Which is why I'm still convinced Rogers will cave and reduce their iPhone rate plans 3 months from now if not sooner - and when they do they'll probably make a big deal about the competitive generosity they're showing their customers.
I really want an iPhone. (I'm a little sad I won't be running out on Friday to grab one.) But I'm just not willing to pay that much to enjoy it. (I can afford it, but I can also afford to pay $5 for a drink at a movie and I don't because that's just a stupid price.)
mutha****as... makes me want to shoot every person in the government. they just don't get it.

please go to this link to help have a new bill passed in the house of commons
http://www.davidmcguinty.com/english/Take_Action/Petition_The_House/Petition_C_555_Frais_d_acces.html
all the details are on that page
so far only 7000 people have signed - we need more to make this happen!
thank you
also, the evenings and weekends start at 7pm with Fido but 9pm with Rogers.Yes, Fido seems to be the best option for me, and for most others I would say? I couldn't imagine anyone picking Rogers over Fido... their plans are so similar except for the per second billing which Fido has (right?). I think the 30 dollar free incoming calls plan is going to suit me just fine. Maybe the 15 dollar Value Pack as well.
According to this CBC article, Apple will be selling iPhone 3G at their store in almost every other country, even those that only have a single store.
While it true the Apple Canada website only ever mentioned Rogers and Fido, that doesn't mean they never intended to sell at their own stores, though it might. It is interesting that Canada is being treated differently, in terms of the iPhone being not sold in Apple Stores, than the rest of the world.
Edit: Apple's UK site does not mention the Apple Stores in their Where to Buy link either, but it will apparently be available at those locations. So, just because Apple Store are not mentioned on the web site does not mean they were not planning on selling them there in Canada. Certainly, they appear to be planning to do so any longer.

As based on reports that the average usage for the first generation iPhone was less than 100MB per month
I think $60 all in would be a step in the right direction.
Can I get a vote on that
...Apple was fully aware of the price plans in Canada, Sweden, Norway and other countries. If you think otherwise then I am afraid that you are quite naive to say the least.
I was looking for this, and maybe some people on here might find some use for it.
Ted Rogers trogers@rci.rogers.com
J Innes (VP) jinnes@rci.rogers.com
and Jane Haitsma (Customer Relations Executive) jhaitsma@rci.rogers.com
Anyway, I've replied to an e-mail I got back from Rogers.
Here's one snippet from that e-mail, the one that I based most of the reply on:
All the reports I found stated the average was MORE than 100MB.![]()
I cannot believe how a few bloggers speculating and a bunch of busy body Americans can cause such a fuss in the Canadian media.
You are probably correct. Apple probably did have to pressure and strong arm Rogers to improve their incredibly bad plans and the best they could get out of them was the announced iPhone plans. If these were the result of Apple having to pressure Rogers, then it isn't a stretch to think that they were not the Apple's first choice but what they had to agree to to get Rogers on board, just as Rogers had to accept their 'improved' plans in order to get Apple on board. Now that the reaction of Canadians has been so negative, it had probably given Apple a chance to try and get Rogers to re-think their plans. This would benefit users and obviously Apple. In the end it would benefit Rogers by increasing their subs, but they don't seem to accept this.Guys, I talked to Fido and Rogers reps "before" the plans were officially announced or the big fuss started on the net. The said that they did not have exact details but Apple had pressured them to lower the prices before agreeing to partner with them. Rogers had agreed to lower their "pricing" to AT&T levels but this did not mean that we would be getting complete feature parity.

Rogers probably received most of their stock in their main depots before the plans were announced.
