This is starting to look less attractive for me. Because I am not in my upgrade window, it looks like there will be at least a $200 premium added for me. Additionally, it appears that they are indeed limiting the $30/6GB plan to voice plans of a minimum rate of $35/month, so mine would not be included. To switch to a more expensive plan would actually get me less because mine is an old plan and has some retention modifications to it. So, if I switch to a $35 plan, I lose features. This is the same problem I had with the original iPhone plans, that is to get one of their iPhone plans would claw back existing features or triple my bill.

I still think this is a good deal for new customers and existing customers who are in their upgrade window and have a $35 or higher plan already.

Where does it say that you need a >35 for the 6gb plan? I see nowhere that it says that other than people speculating.

Ya, same question.

I just got off the phone with a very well-informed rep in the data department. Convo went as such:

• My current plan is $31. I can add the $30 6GB to that plan without any issues.

• VVM is INCLUDED IN ALL DATA PLANS. Therefore, VVM is included in the $30 6GB add-on.

• She was unclear as to whether or not I will be able to cancel my existing VM in favour of VVM, but she *ASSUMES* I would not be able to. (As I understand it they work on completely different streams, but I am VERY far from certain.)

• Adding the $30 6gb add-on to my existing plan requires a 3-year contract and therefore qualifies me for the $299 price for the 16gb phone.

ALSO, I was in the Rogers store on Bloor yday and asked how many iPhones they had in stock for Friday. The person told me they couldn't say for fear of getting canned. I then asked whether I ran the risk of not getting one if I waited until 11 to come get one on my lunch hour (they open at 10). They told me "DEFINITELY. We'll probably sell out in about a half hour."

I then asked someone else how many iPhones they had in stock. This person was more forthcoming and told me that some mall locations will have about 30, but MOST will be limited to about 10 - 20.

So take all that for what it's worth :)

On the site it says that the data plan can be added to any in-market voice plan

Effective July 11, and as a limited time promotional offer for customers who activate until August 31, 2008 on a three year contract, a data-only offering of 6GB of data for $30 per month is being made available that can be added to any in-market voice plan.

I have not seen it anywhere, other than on forums where people said that is what they were told when they called Rogers. This prompted me to call, but as I said, she was not sure.

I just had a chat with a Rogers rep and she said that, because of the high demand for the iPhone, you will only be able to purchase one of the 4 iPhone plans on Friday morning and the voice plus data plans will not be available until about 2 weeks later. If this is true there are gonna be some REALLY pissed off people tomorrow morning.

Can someone else call Rogers to see if you can confirm this?

If this is all true, then I only have to get them to waive the $200 cancellation fee and I am good to go. I don't care about overlapping VM and VVM, since my VM is part of my base voice package.

I spoke to the Fido store here and they were at first a little coy about their numbers. He finally admitted they have 'about a dozen' but that he was repeatedly assured by HQ that they were to be replenished throughout the week, possibly daily, though he was not really sure of the frequency of the restocks.

Not saying they wouldn't pull that, but it does contradict what their own press release says:

Not really...you can change you rplan at any time with Rogers (one of the few good things about them). If a better plan comes available, you just call them up and adjust it. No sweat.

The only ossues come when you try to cancel. They don't care what you're paying really, as long as you're paying it for 3 years :)

Yea I know ... I asked her a few times if she was sure and she said yes. Then she apologized for the misleading information that I had received.

Can someone else call to confirm this?

Oh .. so you pick one of the iPhone plans and then switch when you get home? That's kind of strange isn't it? I guess it would speed things up a bit at the store though.

Don't the terms for the iPhone say that you will pay a penalty of you change you plan to one below a certain level?

The Rogers rep just told me that you wold have to choose one of the iPhone plans and if you switch to the voice + data plan you wold be charged $50 (she thinks)!!

Kind of scary isn't it? They are going to be selling these tomorrow morning and they aren't even sure what kind of plans we can have or what kind of fees we will be charged .. LMAO

Yup.

Price Plan Downgrade Fee
If you have subscribed to an iPhone Voice & Data Package or a Voice Price Plan with a Monthly Service Fee of more than $30, then a Price Plan Downgrade Fee of $50 will be applied to your invoice if, for any reason, you change to a Price Plan with a Monthly Service Fee of $30 or less at any time during the Service Agreement Term. A Price Plan Downgrade Fee will not be charged if your service is terminated prior to the end of the Service Agreement Term, although you will be subject to any applicable early cancellation fee.

Still, my point is...it's possible.

Rep I talked to tole me he's getting trained...on Saturday. I LOLed at him and he LOLed with me.

Can you link to this info please?? Can't confirm this.

I don't have the original link but it was several forums at some point. It was a statement by Liz Hamilton when they backtracked about having to take an iphone plan. She said that you could choose any voice plan and add VVM for $8. If you go back to some of the posts from last weekend or the beginning of the week you can probably find it. I don't have time to hunt around for it again.

Who knows though. It's all FUD (or should we say FUC; Fear Uncertainty and Confusion? Kind of appropriate for Rogers) right now. Every CSR gives a different answer. Some say it comes standard on every data package. So I guess nobody will know for sure until they go to sign up and see what they get.

i know a bit out off topic but im sure lots of canadian would be intersted to knwo this,,, anyone in Canada running 2.0 on a first gen iphone yet?:)

i just phoned my local rogers store, and asked about what voice plan i could get with the $30 for 6gig promotion and she told me she had no idea what i was talking about...:S i wish rogers would put this new promotion on there website they are so lazy when it comes to updating there site.

I was just in at my local Fido retailer to get pre approved (credit check) and I was told something interesting that I did not. I don't think I read it on here anywhere, so possibly others have not heard it. If you get a voice plan that is less than 30 dollars, you will be charged 50 dollars. So, essentially the 8GB iPhone becomes 249.99 and the 16GB phone becomes 349.99.

I thought this 50 dollar charge only applied if you signed up for a plan over 30 dollars, and then decided to downgrade to a plan under 30 dollars. This is a little disappointing, but nonetheless, I will still be getting the 16GB (white or black, haven't decided) iPhone.

Their terms page says it is when you downgrade....typical rogers bs to pre-charge you for it if you don't take their crap.

Has Rogers outsourced their customer support to India or did this guy go to the George Bush Language School?

I would strongly suggest getting in touch with this guy's supervisor and asking him/her what he's doing hiring people with such poor English language skills, although, come to think of it, from my experience with Rogers Customer Support, the supervisor's probably not much better.

Called 7 Stores in Barrie Ontario even small ones like Wireless Wave... They all told me they have the iPhone in but also told me that they are not allowed to tell me how many I have in stock..

Each one did suggest I should line up early.. I said how early? He said I would not be here any later then 6am...

GULP is this a joke?

How rude as a customer wanting buy a phone can't even be told how many they expect to get in.

So, any reports from the field? Anyone buy one yet? Anyone with an existing contract manage to get one? Were the reports of voice plan restrictions for the $30/6GB data plan?

I woujld say if anyone had one, they would be on MR with them telling us how awesome they are and how much they are getting gouged by rogers.

Here in midwest Canada, one store had about 12 people in line along with local news crew. So funny cause I saw the CBC piece this morning live from a store and it was nuts from what they were showing. This local store let in only 4 people at first so I gave up went back to work. Just got a call from a friend who stuck it out. The same wave of folks are still in there and no phone in hand. That was 25min ago :p
I guess the store folks are just trying to figure out this brick thingy :)
