Fact is that there are more guys than girls in these forums getting the rose gold.

Well I'd wager there's way more men on this forum than women period.

And who said I didn't approve of men getting a pink phone? Just pointing out the facts that a) pink is viewed as a feminine color, whether you agree with it or not and whether you think it's right or not, b) Apple is targeting this color towards women and c) you will see a) and b) proven out in the wild once people get their phones.

I don't agree with that. Fact is that short-sighted bigots aren't the majority anymore  and you making assumptions about what everyone else wants/thinks/prefers is what's silly. Fact is that there are more guys than girls in these forums getting the rose gold. Fact is that this is a different world from the one you think it is and if you don't approve, tough on you.

A reality check and a dictionary are in order.
Facts are facts:
  • More women prefer pink than men.
  • Of course more men prefer it to women on these forums bc these forums are probably ~90% men
  • The post had nothing to do with the world, its approval or short-sightedness.
  • Folks need to get off of their high horses and to stop making PC mountains out of molehills.
  • If you think the above is bigotry, you need a dictionary.
Am I right, @xienze ?

Exactly. I was just chiming in on how silly it is that everyone is debating whether or not this thing is pink. It clearly is. And it's pretty obvious why it's the color that it is and the target demographic Apple has in mind.

Edit: and if you want my really cynical take on this controversy ;), I think a lot of the guys on this forum ordered the rose gold since it's the only way they could show of that they have the latest and greatest and are desperately looking for reassurance that they won't be carrying around a pink phone. "It's not pink, right? I knew it wasn't pink. You agree with me? I mean, I'm cool with it and all. But to me it doesn't look pink."

The thing is, people said the exact same thing when the iPhone came in white. People said things like "Well the white is obviously geared toward women"

Then apple announced a gold iPhone and what do you know? people started saying things like "Wow really feminine color obviously made for women"

Now the craziest thing apple adds rose gold and sure enough here you are letting us know how obvious it is that it is targeted toward women.

...It's like people will never learn.

Weren't people speculating that it's Apple taking another stab at catering to the Chinese market (as opposed to the braod category of women in general, since what's considered feminine and masculine differs from country to country and the iPhone isn't lacking in market share where women are considered in the US anyways)? Rose gold is, after all, considered to be very luxe (also, red and red tinted things are associated with prosperity so it could be that too).

Was there a poll that showed ~90%? A lot of people tend to make the assumption that everyone is a guy unless otherwise stated. I'm a girl and I do this as well. It's not just MacRumors. For some reason I assume everybody (without an obvious female avatar, name or post content) is a white male in his 20s on every forum I'm on.

im a very masculine, albeit manicured, guy and ive chosen the 6s in Rose Gold !

i am not sure where this 'controversy' started, but ive noted it as 'nonsense' !

just something more for losers to chit chat about because not a thing else in their existence is of more substance !

I hear what you're saying, but two points:

  • If there ever was a color that screams "we're catering to women", it's pink.
  • In my personal experience women seem to go for the white front phones (gold, silver) more than the black ones. So the points about white and gold have at least a little truth to them.

Anyone else have "I'm just a girl" by No Doubt playing on their inner iPod?

I remember people saying that about the gold one, but I don't remember anyone saying that about the white one.

And in all fairness, I haven't come across a single guy with the gold one in real life. I know they exist, but every gold one I've seen in person has been used by women.

Read some of the posts in this thread. It's funny you could actually replace rose gold with the word white and it would sound like most of the threads around here lately.

I don't understand the obsession with men talking about the rose gold color. Not that men can't buy it, but it's obviously catering to those looking for a more feminine color, whether you're a guy or a girl. And please don't talk about this being about anything but color theory.

This is like saying the black iphone is masculine, which it is, but many women have it, which is fine.

This forum is full of bitter men who are conflicted between getting the rose gold to let people know that he got a new phone vs getting a color that doesn't make him lose his sense of masculinity.

It's not pink its ROSE GOLD come on don't you all know the difference

All I know as a man in my 30s is that if it had come in a true rose gold color like the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak in rose gold, I'd have ordered it in a heartbeat. That AP rose gold is what I thought this color was going to be...so disappointing! And why they didn't do a deeper, richer rose gold with a black bezel, I'll never know.
