A new model with again different features (that I'm totally not interested in)? This is getting very confusing...Combine this with an atrocious Mac lineup, legacy software and a strong MS and I will be inclined to switch...sorry Apple...
It's just a rumor, likely not to happen at all. These types of rumors are quite common during the lull between the holidays and CES, an otherwise slow tech news period. During the 2016 US presidential election, this style of info was referred to as 'fake-news'.

I really hope they just do what google did with the Pixel. The same phone in 2 sizes. I had the 6+, and wanted to switch to the regular 7 this time around, but only the 7+ got the dual camera so was "forced" to get the + again.

I'd welcome a 5" phone as long as it's not another resolution/aspect ratio they introduce to create more fragmentation.

Could one not argue that if the larger iPhone has room for more / better parts, then it should get to use them even if it means alienating the smaller iPhone?

Doesn't seem fair to say "I want the smaller iPhone but don't want to lose out in terms of functionality so the larger iPhone shouldn't get any extra features either."

Just make the battery bigger, next iPhones should just be a bit fatter and have a better battery. I'd happily do without courage, a supposed better camera, some new fonts or whatever else I don't need that I'm told I do. Just to not have to put my iPhone in a heavy apple battery case because it cannot handle a simple day of use.

2016 Most asked questions by people that visit me - What is that smell & can I charge my iPhone?
2016 Most asked questions in my car - Can you slow down and do you have a charging lead?
2016 Most regular comments when I call someone - Oh no, what do you want and I've only got 2% on my battery so my phone might die soon.

Apple has lost its way in recent years and now focus more on revenue than innovation , yes I know there just like any other company that has shareholders to please. I also see post pointing the finger at TC but at the end of the day he's just a figure head of Apple and I believe the issues are deep rooted. I also find it strange that Jony and his team have ran out of ideas in such a short few years. We just need to look at the current iPhone line-up they seem to focus on the inside and iOS which most of us wouldn't use on a daily basis. Lets hope 2017 brings better things from Apple or even better why don't the current ppl have a look at themselves and be honest with themselves - " Can we still innovate " if not time to go

Damn it's too early to believe these rumors, the more accurate ones will pop up in mid June /July when the production line will start

Early Rumors or not is irrelevant to the article. Your post is no more "Accurate" than the actual article itself and There is no such thing as an "Accurate rumor." A rumor is based off a prediction or leak, which is only as credible as the source. In this case, sources are only accurate based off there actual prediction success rate. Believe what you want, but even MacRumors main page articles were way off base last August before the iPhone 7 launched in September.

The only thing that may have some accuracy are iPhone Comonent leaks from suppliers, which again, are never accurate and are intentionally leaked from production, which have been known to be false on many occasions, which could be based off Prototypes or purely for hype.

By "inconsistent nonsense" you mean making Apple boatloads of cash? Man, this forum is filled with the whiniest bunch of people I've ever seen and it just keeps getting worse. iPhone 7 is an incredible device and is selling like hot cakes, Apple Watch is also killing it this year. My 7 Plus is the most incredible device I've ever used, an absolute masterpiece. The doom and gloom that people keep predicting just doesn't materialize.

Can all of you people who threaten to switch just do it already so we don't have to deal with your constant whining on Mac forums?
You do know you are in a cult and you'll feel different once you are on the outside...

I switched from my rMBP to a Dell XPS and I'm still here :)

Wasn't this next phone supposed to be an all new one?

I just hope they have the courage to put a headphone jack in it or usb-c and dump lightning

That is one way to look at it, another is that Apple is a great design company and can manage to put dual cameras in all their phones, but don't because either they lack the skill or want to keep the average selling price up.

We lost the headphone jack because they wanted the space but didn't want to use that space to put dual camaras in the smaller model.

I do feel alienated when Apple offers a better phone in the larger model. Apple needs to watch what they do in this space to stop too many people switching to the competition after all the iPhone is supposed to be a premium phone and you don't leave out features in your premium phones.

Im confused... will there be a iPhone 8 or an iPhone 7s?! Isnt it the 10th anniversary of the iPhone?

You are correct , 10th anniversary, though apple has not celebrated an anniversary with a distinct product, so I would expect a 7S

I'm in a cult? More like I'm a happy customer of a company and I come to a website related to news about that company only to find a bunch of negative geeks. You switched to a Dell XPS, good for you, enjoy. I don't tell you that you're in a cult. I fix electronics for a living, I fix them all and I use them all. It's called having a preference. If you're a grown adult and don't understand that I pity you.

At this stage these types of stories would have you thinking that Tim and co. are throwing spaghetti at the wall to see what sticks--lol. Love the iPhone rumors this time of year!

Y would you post fake news?
MacRumors, fake news, same thing? Isn't this Y you're here?

What?

No one 'forced' you to get anything. You wanted the fancy features, so you bought it.

It's like saying, why are nice things created. The companies are forcing me to get it because I want it.

We need more options. More sizes, colors, different options for cpu and gpu. Some combinations only for 16 GB devices and one color with A11 FusionX and 0.1" extra thin vs the rest. Maybe one SE model with OLED but old SoC and one new 8 without OLED if you want the diagonal arrangement for the camera but not pay extra for the better screen. Also only available in two shades of grey but four different storage sizes.

Great, no more iPhone purchases from me until they are jailbroken,

I hope to have that restraint at least, sick of stock!

I wish someone would make a 5 inch phone with great battery life, a wonderful display, is smooth and just works......oh wait, I just remembered I own a Pixel.

Tim Cook ran out of Steve Jobs' ideas a long time ago, and now just releases different sized devices. He realised that the huge iPad Pro was not a big seller, so with the iPhone his big idea is to create a new size between medium and large. Such creativity!

In 3 years, we will have the iPhone in half inch increments from 3.5 to 5.5. Five different sizes from Pipeline Tim.
Give the customers what they want and don't tell them what you think they want.

If you have to remember you have a pixel im wondering how good the experience really is?

Tim: So you guys asked for a 5.5" model next to the 4.7 - which turned out a cumbersome idea.
As Steve said what Henry Ford said: "One size fits all".
Fragmentation has gotten so crazy, so we are going to decide which one we drop.
I myself, speaking for me, favor the 4.7".
Eddy: Keep the 5.5", the rappers' favorite
Angela: Keep the 4.7", fits my lady case
Joni: The 5.5", could be made even thinner !
Greg: 4.7" is enough to fit even more Gbytes
Phil: The 5.5" has the best camera on the planet.

Tim: Bragg, round-up is even....
Well ehhhm..., then we go for the intermediate: Let's all say Hello to the 5" !!
All: Mellow Hello.

Would make the most sense

Glass back on all with the bigger model with oled
It would only make sense! since another rumour talked about a 5.8" iphone, it could be the bezel-less iPhone+
So the next lineup will be an iPhone 7s (dual camera, 5" display) and a 7s Plus (5.8" display, OLED)
I don't know about the glass casing, i hope it will be available on both

since Timmy has no ideas and can't innovate, he is now fragmenting the iPhone line so bad, people will be so confused and undecided, they may well switch to android

it's no longer easy to pick an apple phone, there so many models with all different features some lacking some in addition

that was play on words / sarcasm.....
[doublepost=1482832711][/doublepost]Too many lazy chiefs in apple these days, and all these seem to care is how to maximise the profits so they retire in the fattest sums. Pitty the next generation of execs who have to clean up once these Steve ballmers move on.

Where else are you going to go for your 4" phone?

The cult part is your complete intolerance for a dissenting opinion after choosing to read a public forum.

Yep, hence the emoticon.

I'm not sure this isn't a stupid idea. Maybe they have some marketing research to back up what they want to go?

Running a company like Steve ballmer isn't bad. For all the negative press Microsoft grew under his reign.

There are some "legit" complaints but also a lot of "hit and run" nonsense.
