Apple likely has multiple prototypes, so I think there is a grain of truth to many of these rumors.

We just don't know which prototype will ultimately be the basis for the production next-generation iPhone.

iPhone 7s Mock-up
iphone-7s-mock-up.png

As long as the iPhone 8 major redesign comes out September 2017 I will be fine with whatever they do to diversify their line up. If this screws up the launch window for the supposed iPhone 8 then cook and co need to go.

I saw the samsung galaxy s7 edge (a friend had one) and wow. I fell in love with the design. If apple can come close they still have me as a customer.

rumor has it apple will keep rehashing it's larger phone features into the smaller phone year over year to fool it's sheep customers into thinking they keep releasing new devices.

They can't raise the 5.5 inch price simply because they feel like fitting a new model in between. I have no problem paying $100 more for 5.5 inch model but they have to offer more than current model. They could offer a 4K screen, additional AR cameras, etc. Extra storage and new colors don't justify price increases.

They can and they will. Take a look at the iPad Pro and new MBP.

By "inconsistent nonsense" you mean making Apple boatloads of cash? Man, this forum is filled with the whiniest bunch of people I've ever seen and it just keeps getting worse. iPhone 7 is an incredible device and is selling like hot cakes, Apple Watch is also killing it this year. My 7 Plus is the most incredible device I've ever used, an absolute masterpiece. The doom and gloom that people keep predicting just doesn't materialize.

Can all of you people who threaten to switch just do it already so we don't have to deal with your constant whining on Mac forums?

Unless you're a shareholder, you're on the losing side. You apparently like being nickel and dimed. Also, please share numbers. Oh wait, you don't have any? You're apparently just taking Tim's word on how "amazed" they are at the demand. No ****, not releasing a new laptop for 2-3 years will do that.

I'm a big Apple fan and only prefer iPhone, but if I see one more cycle of the iPhone 6, I'll be royally pissed! And will not purchase any more iPhone until they change the design!

Jesus, why? This is even more fragmentation. Honestly, look at the MacBook Pro and iPad lineups, and it's clear how these guys have absolutely no idea what to do.

Seems like 1995 all over again...
20 performa models, a few LC's, about 10 powerbooks and another 10 power macintosh ... only thing left for timmay to complete is a total reversal of licensing policy for their OS.

Why are bezels a "problem"? I guess I just don't understand. I don't think I've ever had something not work because it had a bezel, have I? Maybe I just didn't notice.

Not really. Microsoft needed ballmer to move them forward into a giant and he did just that.
Thats besides the point.Microsoft missed a lot of profits thanks to Ballmers missteps. And I am talking supernormal profits here, not just the usual growth ladder. You realise Microsoft Windows on PC and Mobile would mean complete domination and huge profits?Heck even Apple cant claim the former.Microsoft let the chance to beat Apple slip through their fingers

It's my opinion I like the iPhone and you're opinion you don't. Okay next.
I am platform agnostic

Samsung does fragment their lineup and had 3 phones this year until the note 7 fiasco, releases multiple watches. So don't tell me they don't fragment. And when they (Apple)release something the features are supported on flagships going forward(which hasn't been the case in the past with other manufacturers)

Do what you think is best Tim.
Just having different models is not fragmentation.WIDELY Segregating features among them with huge design and spec differences is.The Note 7 is a S7 Edge with a Spen. The S7 Edge is a S7 with a curved screen.Thats it.Apple on the other hand is handicapping all their iphones in some way or another by missing key features amongs the lineup..For instance,4.7 inch does not get dual camera.5 inch does.5.5 inch gets 3 gigs of ram.the smaller ones dont. The anniversary edition gets the OLED and glass back and wire less charging. The Plus edition just gets aluminium and a minor spec bump

BTW loss of headphone jack is a feature being dropped.Loss of silent switch is a feature being dropped

If they decide to keep the same/similar aluminum design and push back the glass casing for 2018, I'm getting a Google phone.

spec of 2017 iphones are not known yet, so...
The discussion is based on an assumption that its true.Lets be real though. This is gonna happen.OLEDs are in short supply by Samsung so Apple needs more than just a 7s to get by

Note the name of the site. Its Macrumors. We discuss rumors here

When I go to Samsung(.com/fr) website I see 20 references : s7, s7 edge, s5 new, s6 edge+, s6 edge, note 4, A5 2016, A3 2016, A7, A5, A3, j7 2016, j5 2016, j3 2016, j1 2016, j5, j1, Xcover 3, grand prime, core prime
There are only 2 flagships as of now
S7 Edge
S7.

3 if you consider the Note 7 but unlike Apple,Samsung did not segregate features between phones. The Note 7 is a S7 Edge with a Spen. The S7 Edge is a S7 with a curved screen

I'm very confused with the rumoured lineup. I hope it isn't this messy - we will see in September.
Me too, but I think it is :
  • New iPhone SE : 4-inch
  • iPhone 7s : 4.7-inch and maybe 5.5-inch
  • iPhone 8 : Same form factor as 4.7 and 5.5-inch, but since the screen will be edge-to-edge, it'll be bigger.
So 4-5 iPhones to choose from in total.

So......the 7s '5 inch' will no doubt shift to the current 7+ pricing and i'll have to shell out an extra couple hundred for the 5.5 inch to stick with my current size. Apple ***** me lately. It would be nice to see the 5 inch pricing sit in between the current 4.7 and 5.5 pricing but i can't imagine for the life of me it will. Screw you apple.
Wow. Pissed-off about a product that is nothing but vaporware at this point?

Don't you think that is a little over-the-top?

Odd that there could be another screen size. Other than people asking that the 4" iPhone have the same design (and features?) as the 4.7" and 5.5" iPhones, I've not heard anyone complain about the current sizes.

Im confused... will there be a iPhone 8 or an iPhone 7s?! Isnt it the 10th anniversary of the iPhone?

The 10th anniversary is irrelevant.

Currently there are conflicting rumours. It looks like there is an iPhone 8 in the works, but parts of it are difficult to make in large numbers, so there's also an iPhone 7S ready to roll so Apple have something to release next September.
