Calm down, so far this is just a totally unsubstantiated rumour. Having a 4.7", 5.0" and 5.5" phone seems unlikely. On the other hand, you call it fragmentation, but is it? If Apple sold iPhones from 4.0" to 6.5" in 0.1" steps, what problems would that cause? As a software developer, I can tell you "none whatsoever".

If Apple were to keep all models reasonably abreast with each other, then there is no problem. However, if fragmentation happens, I fear marketing teams will be enticed with trying to create market "differentiation" and "bundling" like the crazy cable TV guys. I certainly am not looking towards a day where Apple will force users through a bazillion options:
If you want a decent camera, choose the 7.4" model
If you want a decent screen, choose the 7.3" model
If you want a good battery, choose the 8" model
If you want 512GB, choose the 7.9" model
If you want a SIM door, choose the 6.9" model... and so on.

Nobody really wants the 4" screen size, but many people want the case size of the iPhone 5 (and unfortunately that case size only comes with a 4" screen). I think without bezels you could fit the 4.7" screen into the iPhone 5 case. I think they could keep the names and the case sizes while giving everyone a larger screen.
If I could buy a smaller 4" iPhone I would get that. I dislike having a cumbersome phone in my pocket.

Jesus, why? This is even more fragmentation. Honestly, look at the MacBook Pro and iPad lineups, and it's clear how these guys have absolutely no idea what to do.

What you said. It's total customer confusion!

So next year's iPhone Lineup will be a 4.7 and 5.5 inch iPhone that looks exactly like the current one, a 5 inch one that has vertical dial cameras, and another 5.5 inch with glass back, wireless charging, OLED and hologram

They'll be up to 120% more water resistant too.

Why wouldn't Apple sell iPhone 7s while also releasing the iPhone Anniversary Edition? iPhone 8 would be the year after (as usual). I do agree that every Apple product line is a muddled mess.
agree needs to get rid of this S naming - they are the only ones caught in this trap

Why does it matter that it's the 10th anniversary? They didn't say anything for the 10th anniversary of iPod or MacBook Pro either. Screwing their whole development cycle over an arbitrary thing like "10th anniversary" that 99% of consumers don't care about anyway would be a terrible move.

Because the advent of the iPhone is about 6 gazillion times larger than those products.

Here's hoping my iPhone 6 can hold out until they release something I'd want to buy.

Wishing they'd fire the cook. Can we get Reed Jobs? He might be old enough now.

Hmm. This is how Apple's decline started under the Pepsi guy, isn't it? They started offering like 5 million models, most of them bad. History repeating itself?
For desktops I know what to switch to, any macbook pro clones that run Linux well, aside from the Dell developer edition thingy?
I'm not switching YET, but it's good to know your options....

Dual vertical could be interesting.

Photos could be really wide or vertical by capturing either both side by side or both vertical, some kind of image stabilisation and stitching to pan them apart. Then also it could be used together to help low light and zoom and also used for shallow depth effects too.

Personally I would love to finally see wide angle options for video. While the zoomed in video is pleasing. I would thing a super wide 4k video option a great added extra.

That could be a neat application, uwa panorama photos and videos, or even stereoscopic.

Quite like the sound of this. I find the 4.7 inch slightly too small and the plus too big. Somewhere between the two would be good.

If they could trim the bezels to fit a 5" display in a phone around the same size or just slightly larger than the current 4.7" models, that would be great!

My tea leaves inform me that Apple is keeping the 7s and 7s+ for Sept., updated of course, and the new 5 inch will be a one-off series for Apple's anniversary iPhone. It will be the only one with the OLED along with other "advances" Apple wants to serve up. As it is a one-off Apple will sell it just for the year. It won't get updated and the "advanced" tech. will then be included in the 8 and 8+. For historical proof review the Anniversary Mac. Nuf said.

DING, DING, DING ... we have our winner.

I'll be interested to see what happens to Apple Watch sales during this quarter for Christmas.

The Apple Watch didn't even exist two years ago... so it's kinda hard to spot any trends yet. This is only the 2nd Christmas it has been available. Yes... it was down 71% in Q3 year-over-year... but maybe it will be up in Q4 due to the cheaper Series 1 and better Series 2.

Apple is not giving up on the Watch in a time when other smartwatches have a questionable future.

Pebble is gone... absorbed by FitBit for their software (really?)

Google is waiting for Q1 2017 to release the new Android Wear platform. They missed this Holiday season altogether.

It should be noted that the makers of Android Wear watches never had huge sales numbers anyway. According to Android.com... the main players are Motorola, Asus, Sony, Tag Heuer and Fossil. What a list.

The only name that jumps out at me is Motorola... but they didn't even release a new watch in all of 2016. And they recently announced that they have suspended their smartwatch plans "indefinitely"

And Motorola was the biggest. So I can't imagine any of the other Android Wear makers are feeling good vibes.

Then there's Samsung and their Gear platform... but it never sold in huge numbers either.

So yeah... Apple may be down... but it seems the other guys aren't even trying anymore.

The smartwatch is never going to be hugely successful, and esp not with Apples 'me too' attempt. My favorite 'smartwatch', the Microsoft band 2 (since I run and bodybuild nearly every day), isn't getting a band 3.

At the end of the day, you can cite convenience and all the other excuses, but no one wants to look at a watch when a far better product sits in their pocket.

The Apple Watch will become like the Mac Mini, with a small dedicatedd fan base hoping for an update for years to come. Just watch

Apple may introduce a new 5-inch iPhone model that sports a unique vertical dual-camera system that sits alongside the existing 4.7- and 5.5-inch models, according to Japanese blog Mac Okatara. The 5-inch model would act as the medium size in the 2017 lineup.

The report, which comes from a Taiwanese supplier, says that the new models, dubbed the iPhone 7s, would be an updated version of the iPhone 7. The new 5-inch model, however, would rearrange the iPhone 7 Plus' dual camera into a vertical alignment rather than a horizontal one.

Earlier this month, Mac Okatara reported that the iPhone 7s and 7s Plus would retain the aluminum design of the iPhone 7. However, the report said the new phones would come in an all-new red color. Multiple reports have stated that there will be three new iPhone models in 2017, including updated 4.7- and 5.5-inch models with LCD screens and a premium model with an OLED display and glass casing.

The new report corroborates an earlier Nikkei report that said a new 5-inch iPhone would arrive in 2017. However, Nikkei reports that the three iPhone models in 2017 will have new glass-backed designs. In November, KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said it's likely the 2017 iPhones will switch to new glass casings to support wireless charging.

While Mac Okatara was the first to report that Apple would replace the headphone jack in the iPhone 7 and debut a new gloss black color, its track record is not perfect. In November, it reported the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus would get a new "Jet White" color that has not yet materialized.

[doublepost=1482855276][/doublepost]Cant wait for the new premium model already tired of my 7plus.

All glass enclosure, self-illuminating pixels, and bring back the headphone jack and I might be interested. And lower the price!! Why does an iPhone cost more than an iPad??

Another new size and move the cameras around. Way to work that innovation pipeline, Timmy!!

Because the advent of the iPhone is about 6 gazillion times larger than those products.

Says the person who wasn't around when the Mac, iMac, and Powerbooks came out. In terms of disruption, the iPhone is a minor blip compared to those.

What?

No one 'forced' you to get anything. You wanted the fancy features, so you bought it.

It's like saying, why are nice things created. The companies are forcing me to get it because I want it.
That's why I put forced in quotes. It was really just me forcing my self. ;).
