Seems like everyone here forgot the next Apple TV will be combined with Homepod.
Don’t need a new Apple TV for that. All I want is software/hardware so two people can have both their AirPods connect at the same time and a better remote. Then I will buy 5 of them!
Well for me personally, I like when a newI'm wondering what could make this an appealing update to Apple TV 4k owners.
Sounds like possible bluetooth / wifi interference with your smart tv, or (very unlikely) the result of your HDMI cable being connected to the non-4k port on your TV.
I don't know what you are talking about.
Properly mastered and encoded 4K material has beautiful blacks on my Apple TV 4K with LG OLED, including from Apple TV +.
I'm wondering what could make this an appealing update to Apple TV 4k owners.
What *I* need from the new Apple TV is:
1. 10G ethernet. Yes, some of us actually have 10G ethernets in our home (I even have my 2008 and 2009 AND my 2008 xServe retrofitted).
2. Improved device count. Right now I can have a maximum of 5 Apple TV's on my network. Adding a sixth causes it all to go to hell. This is a software bug, not a hardware bug, and now if they support 10G AND have a faster processor, there is no reason for them to have this stupid hardware limit (and for those of you who think I'm in overkill... 3 bedrooms, a living room, kitchen, and downstairs mother-in-law apartment with 2 more Apple TVs - good thing I don't have a mother-in-law).
I really doubt there is much difference in cost between a 4K HDMI output and a 1080p HDMI output. The only other thing you need for 4K is a chip that can decode it and an OS that handles it- both of which you’re asking for in an updated 1080p Apple TV, so such a device would be unnecessarily gimped to have it only output 1080pUpgraded hardware is always nice, but I don’t know what this could offer to existing Apple TV 4K owners besides maybe upgraded graphics for gamers?
It'll have LiDAR so that it can digitally recreate your living room for your Animoji to hang out in.
Hope theres more to entice buyers than a faster processor...... my 4k is already fast enough
“TV Deep Fusion” would make me upgrade. Obviously it couldn’t work exactly like the iPhone Pros, but using that processing power to add detail and reduce digital noise from the picture would be great. The current 4K box already does a pretty good job - here in the U.K. I often find BBC content from the Apple TV app (720p) looks better than the 1080p broadcast image. Our TV experience these days is such a mix of resolutions and bit rates, having the Apple TV really focus on boosting the picture quality would be great.
Looks like a dithering issue with your TV, due to a software incompatibility. This doesn’t happen with my TV.I’m referring to this:https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/picture-quality-and-apple-tv-4k.2209521/
I did try to find the picture on my phone, but I couldn’t so had to send my post about it.
But what’s the chance that the new TV will have ANY of that? I’d guess zero. There could be a lot of reasons for upgrading the previous generation.
I want to be able to play my own Dolby Atmos files in infuse which I cant right now.
4k YouTube but that could be done on the current machines.
Plex server with usb support for an external hard drive.
I mean apple could do a Plex server on these if it wanted to and just blow out the Shield. I have both but I prefer the interface of apples by far to the shield blurry in comparison interface.
Does nobody use music apps on their devices? Appletv's music is the prettiest looking music app ive ever seen compared to any other device and that is pretty huge to me. Every other music app ive used on other devices is a generic unpolished app that's just garbage. User interface really makes me enjoy using something that much more.
Also using Plex on the shield its just not as nice and there's a stupid flash startup screen that's just ugly every time I play a movie or show. I use infuse all the time its beautiful and I think the picture compared to both systems is still better in infuse than on the 2019 shield.
I don't think people notice little details in UI like I do and I appreciate them a lot. It makes me want to use a device over another one with unpolished feeling apps like everything on the shield.
I also run Kodi on my appletv and its faster than on the shield already.
Is there any reason to get an Apple TV if you have a Smart TV or a Roku stick?
Genuinely asking.
Aside from Airplay, I can't think of any exclusive features that are useful (in a general sense).
And like maybe one that outputs at 480p right? Maybe go all the way back to CGA. Maybe even monochrome. Because you know, some people won't use 4k or even 1080p.
This is not a hardware issue. It's mainly a DRM/licencing issue. There could be a lot of reasons for upgrading the previous generation.
I want to be able to play my own Dolby Atmos files in infuse which I cant right now.
This is a business choice, again related to licencing etc., something that Apple and Google have constantly be fighting about. AFAIK, it won't get fixed anytime soon regardless of what the hardware is.4k YouTube but that could be done on the current machines.
Not gonna happen, because 99% of the Apple TV buying population doesn't care. I certainly don't care about this, and Apple doesn't care either.Plex server with usb support for an external hard drive.
