I'd like to see a Mini with the same display tech and quality as the "Pro," basically an iPad Mini Pro. An A10 Fusion would be just fine.

Since component costs have dropped, it's time to drop the "Pro" iPad prices back to standard iPad prices. The current iPad Pro 9.7" is absurdly expensive for a ten inch tablet.

One more thing...add a finder to iOS for iPads and I won't be so tempted to go Android. And for the love of the FSM, offer more base NAND storage! I saw a 256GB flash drive today for under $40. There is no legitimate excuse for charging $100 to upgrade by half that amount on an iPad.

Exactly, and those people do not need computer, and the iPad is perfect. It's the iPad Pro that is a solution to a problem that does not exist, it can be talked up all people want, it cannot replace a computer.

So using jobs analogy people keep referencing , iPad = car, PC = truck and iPad Pro might as well be a SUV... an over glorified car that kinda looks like a truck but is for all purposes useless as a truck. :)
If you want/need to use one program, that is not on iOS, then you need a computer.

That's A LOT computers that are still needed.

does anyone really need a "faster" iPad? It's an internet reading device...

How does it feel to live in a bubble? Do you get enough air in there? Apparently not.

Just because your use case for an iPad is as an internet consumption device, it doesn't mean that that's true for every other person.

I use my iPad Pro as my primary computer in my work as a photographer. I shoot RAW photos, upload them to Lightroom and then edit directly on the screen of my iPad Pro 12.9". I push it to its limit and so yes, give me something even more powerful.

Yet another item for the iPad wishlist (actually this is most likely an iOS feature):

Functionality similar to Android OTG, which permits one to jack into an external drive for expanded storage. Also add functionality for plugging in mice/keyboards.

RAM: at least 4GB. For the premium price an iPad should not be outclassed by cheap Android tablets.

Which household needs excel sheets and slide presentations? I'm really confused.

Perhaps not slide presentations, but spreadsheets (Excel or Numbers), is so common in budgeting households.
iOS needs help in simplifying the way one adds attachment to emails.

This is BS!

The current iPad Pro is A9X based (from the iPhone 6s A9), the next one is going to be A10X based (iPhone 7 A10). It will be surely be using 14nm chips, so this is not a problem for Apple.

Now for Samsung and other Qualcomm phones, they need a better CPU than the current SD820 for their S8 at March, that HAS TO be a breakthrough after the Note 7 failure and disappointing S7 that's just an expensive S6 with a SD reader.

If it really is iPad Air 1 thickness, I'll buy it.
  1. No camera hump, make it flush
Well, pick two out of three:
  1. iPhone 7 camera (f/1.8, optical stabilisation), and it is doubtful if even the 12.9" iPad Pro 8 MP camera (7.1 mm thick body) would fit into the 6.1 mm thick body of the iPad Air 2/iPad Pro 9.7"
  2. iPad Air 2 weight (the 6.1 mm thin body is what makes its weight lower than that of the Air 1)
  3. No camera bump
Most likely to get no camera bump, you'd need both (1) and (2). The 12.9" iPad Pro camera sits flush in a 7.1 mm thin body. A 9.7" iPad with no camera bump would thus need to forsake the bigger and better cameras of the iPhone 7 and thickness and weight reductions of the Air 1 to Air 2 transition.

You might prefer a heavier iPad and a worse camera over a camera bump, but if a clear majority of iPad customers prefers the lower weight and better camera, Apple would be wrong to design something for a minority of its (iPad) customers.

That's the point. You assume that Apple is not switching process size for a given processor generation when it has done so before in the past.

Hang on. Just cause you use yours for. photography does not mean it's true for every other person ....

So on a serious question, if you went on a big job, you would use an iPad as your primary? Can u ask why over a laptop? Sounds like you are compromising using a weaker tool.

I'm not having a go, I want your honest opinion why you would use an iPad over a laptop

It looks like 2017 will not be a good year for Apple. And it will be the first year that I don't buy anything from Apple .(if they don't release an new iPad in march).

Slightly amused by this story given all the posts about how good it was that Apple move away from Samsung. I think it's good to diversify a supply chain - but it's also a gamble.

Oh ffs, its already ridiculous trying to recommend an iPad to people already given the age of the current range and the pricing.

Is there a reason you keep posting this type of comment all over the forums?
Maybe there are looking for a producer; perhaps be asked to create one of Apple's original TV series like Planet of the Apps. /s

And we have Apple trying to make OS X more like iOS when it should be the other way round.

Put OS X on an iPad before calling it "pro".

I'm calling it, the next version of macOS will adopt iOS's design language, imagine Safari on an iPad and that is how they will make Safari look on the Mac. Because they wouldn't dare do it the other way around, and they have been trying to streamline ALL of their platforms for a while. The design language is one of the biggest differentiators between macOS and iOS. Also, I bet that 10.13 becomes just macOS 11 (moving on from the 10.X), in order to align with iOS 11 to be released at the same time.

EDIT: a stupid

No. If it can replace a computer, means you did not need a computer in the first place . If you require a computer, an iPad Pro cannot replace it. I can use a screwdriver as a hammer, does not mean it's a adequate replacement :)

He missed the big one, porn watching device.....
I don't think you realised that I was being sarcastic....

But I agree with you, iPads can replace computers for most of the same people that smartphones replaced their computers. An iPad is a more suitable replacement but it has always been for those people, regardless of the 'Pro' in the name.

The link that gets sent around a lot is actually this video. Jobs reference to companies with markert share, and markerting taking over has some interesting comparisons to Current day apple, watch it and I'd be interested on your view

This video reminds me of the state of Apple now

I want this chunky 10.9" iPad Pro, and I want it to have an overhauled version of iOS that is custom tailored for professionals with beastly hardware to match. I want something that would be an excellent complement to a new iMac, with first party support to use it as an external display for drawing on the Mac as well as a Touch Bar. There are apps that help do this, but I think if Apple tried it, they could do a better job of tightly integrating the two.
