Just imagine getting your brand new iPhone and the battery is at 0%. Now you have to look for a charger to charge your brand new iPhone.

COURAGE!!!

View attachment 948053

I really don’t get all these comments that people should stop complaining because they all have drawers full of Earbuds and Chargers. I used my earbuds, they are lucky to last a year and I look forward and need them with my new iPhone. Plus they are $45 AUD to buy here. As for chargers, yes we all have 5w chargers lying around. The iPhone 11 Pro Max comes with an 18w charger and the large battery needs that to charge in a decent time. How many people have heaps of them lying around? I decided on an 11 Pro Max BECAUSE I got these accessories included.

Ive noticed that the usb c cable that came with my 11 in the spring is already starting to fail. Only use it at bedside. Junk.

The very same people who constantly rail against “greedy billionaires” consistently and without fail go to bat for Apple, defending their every penny-pinching, profit-maximizing move, no matter how bad for the consumer.

I can’t imagine living with that level of cognitive dissonance.

The iPhone market is largely a replacement market today. That means most customers already have a charger.

Earbuds are more arguable. They usually don’t last more than a year, at most. Although, since the beginning of the pandemic, I’ve been spending a lot more time at home. As a result, I rarely use the earbuds anymore. I typically use speakerphone mode I can’t speak for all users, though. I assume Apple has figures on usage.

The “greedy billionaires” aren’t forcing you to buy a new phone. I can’t imagine why you‘d blame them for something which is your choice.

what the hell are you trolling about? How do you know what people’s motivation are? I have 5 unused chargers in a drawer. I don’t need any more, and I have never used the earbuds that came with the phone. The only thing I need is a new cable, which they will be providing.

As far as penny-pinching, profit-maximising. Did you actually read the article? The cost of the parts are actually going up (read the part about the cost of parts going up) and this is a way to keep the cost of the iPhone neutral.

I can’t imagine living with that level of cognitive dissonance.

Yet you’re happy to live with a person who doesn’t read properly or accept the premise of the article. I can’t imagine living with that level of negativity.

Thank you for providing a perfect illustration of my point.

I seem to have triggered your cognitive dissonance, creating an irrational anger response.

My statement wouldn’t have bothered you in the slightest if it didn’t apply to you personally.

I have mixed feelings about this. I would have plenty of chargers and cables lying around if 1. family members didn't steal said items 2. if they didn't fail.
personally i'd like to see an option with the brick sold as an accessory for a very cheap price, say $5, alas I know that won't happen since 1. it's Apple 2. You probably cant get a 20w charger for that cheap (that will continue to work)

Doesn’t bother me in the least bit. I can’t remember the last time I’ve actually used apples stock chargers.

How wrong can you be ?
EVERY computer I had owned up until this one I upgraded the RAM and the HD as need and money allowed. Hell I even upgraded the RAM in the old TRS-80.
Apple has removed the ability to do this. and your choices are:
1) Buy with with specs you do not initially need at Apples massive markups
2) Sell the old machine for a loss and buy a new machine at Apples massive mark ups
3) Do without
With Apples move to ARM even the option of a hackintosh will be gone.

Upgrade is ALWAYS the first option in reducing ewaste
Repair is the 2nd option, however its not cost effective for Apple products

And don't get me started on their iMac packaging with all the polystyrene in it, or laptop/iPad/iPhone/etc packaging with plastic inserts.

Apples "Green" credentials is 100% marketing ********.

Apples Mantra should be "Throw it away and buy New"

What’s this rant going on about? Their hardware last over a decade of use. Don’t upgrade at all. Just keep using the same one.

Let them create a charger less model for $10 cheaper and see which the people opt for

5G adds $50-100 of cost, would you rather they jack up the retail price instead of finding a way to cut costs?
Because god forbid they’d ever NOT pass the cost on to consumers one way or another.
My Porsche didn't include the upgraded stereo, and I paid $135k for it. I didn't find myself crying about it.
So you’re comparing an essential accessory (a phone will only last so long without being charged) to an optional upgrade?

I’ve a bunch of unused chargers headphones if anyone needs them...

i do hope they put a USB cable in there though.

People keep saying that including chargers and earbuds results in environmental waste because people throw them away...

Who in the freaking hell throws away chargers?? At least in my case, when I get a new device that has a charger I either just plug it in at a new location I frequent and leave it there so I can charge conveniently, or give it away to someone who needs one. The same goes for earbuds; I've given my girlfriend a couple pairs now that I don't use because she's hard on them and they break.

I don't know who these people are who throw away perfectly good hardware, but if they do exist they need to be slapped around with a large trout.

To paraphrase - If you don’t agree with my opinion you should be assaulted. Nice.

Considering most users aren't updated on what's going on in the hi-tech world i can predict what will happen if apple will release an iphone without charger and earphones. Once they will open the box and dont find such accessories they will get angry and back to the store asking for them, or for get money back. No matter what store employee will say, there will be a ton of angry customers. Consider also that many people don't uses ANY usb charger or ANY earphones. They want only the original ones in order to don't "break" their expensive iphones. Years ago i lost an iphone, so i ve made a listing on local listings service, to sell the box + the included accessories. Usually these boxes are bought by people that have an already stolen iphone or for making scams. However i got most (and a lot) calls from people asking for the charger OR the cable OR earphones. and the reason isnt only they want a genuine accessory, most of them thinks that they can charge their iphone ONLY with an apple charger. seems strange for us and for anyone that knows some electronics basics, but most people dont knows such things

The 11 Pro's are heading towards two grand territory here, when you're already paying that much an extra 50 hardly seems egregious.

Probably because to Apple those devices cost them about $1

Yes but they retail for much higher, which was what I was referring to. If you need a power brick, here in Canada it's like $35 or more. So sure if they apply that discount so people can buy one without a hassle then that's fine.

Just because some people don't feel the need for a power brick or basic headphones, it doesn't mean people can project their needs onto others and disregard them.

But still expect a >$1k flagship phone. Because despite what apologists say, Apple is the worst of the worst when it comes to price gouging companies, and it only gets worse every year.
