If you understand me, why correct me?

For me, it would be to aspire to be among better educated, intelligent individuals. It can be very grating to listen to people who are capable of knowing so much better, but due to an apathetic streak in some regards, drop the level of excellence the experience of their company would normally bring.

Details do matter. I got in the habit of not coming to a complete stop in small towns because 'no one was ever there'. Then came the near accident. (I'll spare you the details, except to note it was my apathy to the rules that led to bad habits.) I'm much more careful now. :D

Don't take corrections personally, use them to your advantage.

It infringes upon rounded corners and black bezels. Apple has a patent on that.

Ever notice how tablets before the iPad all looked totally different, but then, once again, when Apple shows them how to succeed, suddenly the "rounded corners and black bezels" are treated like the basic building blocks that all tablets must have.

Crazy, ain't it?

What is this about exactly? What technology is being infringed upon? What part of the devices were created by Samsung and not credited as such?

NOTE: What is said here is based on what I've read in these forums, I'm not a lawyer.

To my knowledge, the infringement is based off a Patent that Samsung holds regarding the 3G communications technology. Such is a real patent. Now; from what I've read apple does not pay royalties to samsung, like every other phone manufacturer does. Therefore samsung is seeking the ban because apple are sueing them left right and center.

Again, this is based on what I've read in this forum so if this is incorrect then please feel free to correct me.

Yeah, sorry. Just sleepy. I make grammar mistakes when sleepy.

Good for them. If Apple did indeed infringe on Samsung's 3G patents then by all means, Samsung should sue.

Thumbs down'd. Hm, funny. Let's try that again.

Apple should totally sue Samsung for copying their innovative design! I mean, look at the boxes and chargers and everything! It's like they have a big photocopier and just copied the entire Apple HQ! How dare Samsung sue Apple. Bad Samsung! You copied other people, now suffer the consequences! You're going down Samsung, nobody will buy your phones and when Apple abandons you the company is going to die!

Funny how simply replacing "Apple" with "Android" (and vice versa), and "Samsung" with "Apple" in your statement still make perfect sense.

Also funny how if you replace "sense" in your post with the phrase "ignorant and childish drivel," it makes the exact same amount of sense as it did before.

Lol @ people who actually care about their thumbs down ratings.

Also, Samsung's patents they are suing for are for commonplace technologies and lower-level stuff.

Hell, one of their complaints is that Apple uses the same "Airplane Mode" logo? Really Samsung? That's the best you can do?

You want a judge to side with you because Apple (and everyone else, for that matter) puts a tiny picture of an airplane onscreen when the phone is in Airplane Mode. What do you expect them to put?

I hate when people bring this up..... My Nintendo DS had a similar box design like the iPhone. My Walkman has the same cable connector. And I'm pretty sure a product out there with the same power adapter.

Australia? Biggest markets? 22 million people (not sure of the uptake of iphones; guessing at a maximum of 60%) could fit in almost any other country's small towns. Bringing my guess to 13.2 million people. Is that really a significant portion of Apple's market? (Still, it would explain why Australia is included earlier than other nations --- sorry NZ --- which I'd thought it was because we Aussies were so good at being accommodating :D)

In a recent news report over here the smartphone uptake reached approximately 50%, now while this isn't 50% of the country's population, many people here have one smartphone for work, and one for personal use. This ends up equating to a smartphone market of approximately 5 million smartphones (10 million phones all up, and growing). This is not a small market, not a large one, but not small. Of this Australia's uptake of the iPhone is around 50% I think....

Our market is very small, I realise this, I mostly said it because of Japan.

However, Apple have in recent years been treating Australia as a first tier international market, so they do value us. Consider that the three US networks sold out of 1 million iPhones on launch. Regardless of our population, 1 million iPhones is entirely conceivable.

They really don't. iTunes and the app store still have over inflated prices that DO NOT MATCH the exchange rate. There is absolutely no reason for Apple to charge that much for a DIGITAL SERVICE WITH MINIMAL UPKEEP IN THIS COUNTRY!

Sorry, I'm just a little pissed at just about every country taking us for a ride. I recently had to import a guitar because our retailers over here wouldn't even consider price matching. $3300 AUD imported (including tax) and $5000 minimum from a retailer here. You get the idea!

Apple's lawyers shrunk down the size of the Samsungs to match the physical dimensions of the Apple's. They presented this in court too.

Apple does not deserve a free pass.

Is English your second or third language?

Not to single you out, per say, but I see a lot of Samsung sympathizers with the most embarrassingly poor English grammar skills. It leads me to conclude you're from the Far East and English is not your first language.

If not, I'd suggest making your understanding of English a priority if only for the sake of allowing the reader to more readily interpret your thoughts, whether for or against.

If you expect anyone to take your position more serious, you would be wise to actually learn the language more fully, with all it's contradictory constructs and contextual trappings.

I disagree a lot with that video. You should notice that although the Samsung Galaxy S2 wins most when opening apps, it has no opening or closing animation unlike the iPhone 4S. So, it's not really a fair comparison in my opinion.

Why do animations make a phone better? :S

If you understand me, why correct me?

I could tell you were worked up over this IP topic and I wanted to defuse your comment.

Apple isn't the only company to use the questioned IP- Like the other smartphone makers likely to adopt the technology, Apple will have to licence the IP or stop copying.

It's all hype and drama so Samsung will be in the media.

Really? You think that's pathetic while Galaxy S2's get banned in Europe due to the gesture used to switch between photos..... My goodness, neither of those things should have been granted patents in the first place!

Samsung...........Oh yeah that's the company that make crappy phones and TV's.

Apple and panasonic 4 life.

 what was wrong with the text? I found a missing apostrophe... doesn't seem so bad. (Though take note Wikus! >:| ... :D

As such there also didn't seem to be a problem with Wikus's logic.

Samsung versus Apple

When Apple attacks Samsung, only a small bunch of Android users complained about not having their android tablet. The rest are Motorola, HTC users.

When Samsung attacked Apple, the entire iOS eco-system rebelled. It is those foot soldiers who are willing to wait for overnight or even days to get their iPhone. If anyone dares to stand in their path towards iPhone 4S, the obstacle would be shredded into pieces with no deliberation.

Furthermore, this will only hurt Samsung's long term manufacturer relationship with Apple. This is a super bad move.

Talk to your own officials on the GST and the cost and insurance of imported goods, country by country. Then also ask them for the gap between import and retail. Don't be surprised if a lot of hidden taxes are thrown in by the Australian Government and local municipality.

To my knowledge, the infringement is based off a Patent that Samsung holds regarding the 3G communications technology.

It appears to be something to with the 3G Patent pool (although it doesn't seem to have been confirmed in any news stories I've read), if this is correct, several companies own patents in the pool, not just Samsung. As 3G is a standard the companies are expected to licence them under FRAND ("fair, reasonable and nondiscriminatory") terms. I'd be surprised if Apple had not approached the patent owners to licence the technology under these terms, I guess Samsung said NO, due to the current disputes.

However. If Samsung were to win, they would be shooting themselves in the foot, as if FRAND were declared not in force, then maybe the other 3G, and 4G patent pool holders (isn't Apple a 3/4G holder now after buying the Nortel patents?) might just decline to licence them to Samsung. Not the best situation to be in.

So, am I missing something?

Didn't Samsung try the same thing on the iPhone 4 only to have their case thrown out?

What new features in the iPhone 4S could they possibly be claiming patent infringement?

If you recall I wasn't singling this particular commentator out, per say. The added Apple's apostrophe is the least of the butchering of the language going on in this thread. It was also the closest one in eye sight that stuck out.

The product in question is the iPad. It should be addressed as the Apple iPad.

This is another example from page 3:

How has iphone not beat other phones? Spec race? While there are benefits to bigger screen and ram (apple will almost always be the smallest with ram) and better chips, there are downsides too.

Does any smartphone have a better life than iPhone? None that I've heard of do.

So all thing being effectively equal, we are left with marketing and sales. Iphone doesn't even have a competitor in that respect, only if you group a number of competitors together...

If you cannot see the butchering of sentence flow then you've been using SMS too long.

Don't take corrections personally, use them to your advantage.

The chopping structure and misplaced commas butcher the language.

Even AppleTools on page 2:

It was [It is] about time until a company stood by their designs... Chinese, Korean, even Japanese companies are usually eager about copying designs...

You just have to look at many korean and japanese cars that look like BMWs or Mercedes...

It's just that no other company had the "time and patience" to actually defend their designs...

Since Samsung has been copying stuff from other competitors for years, they think they can get away with it but not this time...

And the worst thing for them, they will loose a lot of business from Apple and get a very bad reputation when things settle down...

It's [It is] about time a company stood by their designs....

More to the point you don't mix contractions with non-contractions in the same paragraph. I could cite more and I usually ignore it until it becomes common to the point it interferes with enjoying the positions taken by the various commentators.

I am presently hyper-aware due to reading, ``Artificial Intelligence, A Modern Approach, 3e, by Stuart Russell and Peter Norvig,'' where one cannot read more than 3 pages without being bombarded with typos and grammatical errors. It is rather ironic considering the subject matter.

Take a moment and apply your theory to actual building blocks. Somebody invented those too. Without them becoming, figuratively, the basic building blocks of society, we'd all be living in mud huts, wouldn't we?

Just seems a silly argument, really. If you believe a certain feature is very good, then that feature becoming a de facto standard should contribute to the betterment of the class of product as a whole.

Especially if said feature is something as inane as rounded corners, or a black bezel.

Apple is disputing whether the 3G patent that Samsung holds should fall into a special category that limits whether Smasung can or cannot collect a patent royalty. It's like the patent covers any 3G phone that has copper circuitry in it...that sort of broadness.

Apple pays royalties that are fair and reasonable, but have taken a stance that says they will not be extorted, nor will they allow people to copy the look and feel of their products when they have pre-established trade dress.

Also, by going after one of the biggest manufacturers, who copied Apple's product in multiple ways right down to the Apple trademarked icons, Apple is serving notice to all other manufacturers that they need to innovate, not copy Apple products. In the long run Apple's suits now should make for a lot less suits later, because everyone will start playing by the rule of law.
