Lol @ people who actually care about their thumbs down ratings.=

Frankly, I don't care about the rating system. Still, it tells everyone what the community thinks of their posts, and based on the rating I've seen for my two posts in this thread, it appears that subjective and non-biased warrant thumbs-downing and an extremely biased and rather stupid remark warrants thumbs-upping.
Just thought it would be amusing to see how this community responds.

I hate when people bring this up..... My Nintendo DS had a similar box design like the iPhone. My Walkman has the same cable connector. And I'm pretty sure a product out there with the same power adapter.

Actually, if you'd care to take a look at my previous posts, you'll find that I am far from a supporter of the Apple vs Samsung case(s), and I find that suing a company based on the design of the box and the device having a black bezel with a screen in it utterly ridiculous ;)

If you recall I wasn't singling this particular commentator out, per say.

It's [It is] about time a company stood by their designs....

With the greatest of respect, if you're calling another poster out on his spelling and sentence construction, you might do well to spell 'per se' correctly. That's a fairly horrible mistake.

I like you then.

ha haha, sorry- had a few G 'n T's already.

This topic is boring.

It appears to be something to with the 3G Patent pool (although it doesn't seem to have been confirmed in any news stories I've read), if this is correct, several companies own patents in the pool, not just Samsung. As 3G is a standard the companies are expected to licence them under FRAND ("fair, reasonable and nondiscriminatory") terms. I'd be surprised if Apple had not approached the patent owners to licence the technology under these terms, I guess Samsung said NO, due to the current disputes.

However. If Samsung were to win, they would be shooting themselves in the foot, as if FRAND were declared not in force, then maybe the other 3G, and 4G patent pool holders (isn't Apple a 3/4G holder now after buying the Nortel patents?) might just decline to licence them to Samsung. Not the best situation to be in.

This is what I believe to be correct at present.
Originally there was no issue, but when Apple took Samsung to court for patent infringements, Samsung started using key technology patents as a bargaining tool. Apple rejected such and consequently has won numerous descisions in its favor in multiple countries. However since Samsung owns these patents which many in the industry believe are classed as FRAND, meaning they can't be used as a negotiating tool and must have a clear pricing structure available to everyone we will have to wait and see how judges in each country decide if and how this is or is not a FRAND patent. Either way, regardless of what side of the fence you sit in regards to brands you support - from a legal dispute you have to give Samsungs lawyers credit given what they have to work with.

Why do animations make a phone better? :S
Well, I wasn't saying they do. Although, I believe that is the case. It's more natural to have animation than it is for something to "instantly" appear, and it also looks better.

I'm saying it isn't a fair comparison because no matter what app you open on the iPhone 4S it'll always have a small delay at the start. Unlike the SG2 which apps just "appear" on.

Take a moment and apply your theory to actual building blocks. Somebody invented those too. Without them becoming, figuratively, the basic building blocks of society, we'd all be living in mud huts, wouldn't we?

Just seems a silly argument, really. If you believe a certain feature is very good, then that feature becoming a de facto standard should contribute to the betterment of the class of product as a whole.

Especially if said feature is something as inane as rounded corners, or a black bezel.

It's interesting that you should bring up "building blocks" because LEGO had to sue up a storm to get other manufacturers from copying their design. At one time a person could buy what they thought were LEGOS only to find their were an inferior knock-off that wouldn't snap together correctly. LEGO sued and won and suddenly people stopped copying LEGO and began to innovate.

As you can see from this REAL example that the copies did not "contribute to the betterment of the class of product as a whole" as you imagined.

If the iPhone didn't have the animations, then the iPhone would probably win in that, but it doesn't. I wish the animations were a bit faster though. It's a fair comparison though as that's how apps open on each phone by default.

If you recall I wasn't singling this particular commentator out, per say. The added Apple's apostrophe is the least of the butchering of the language going on in this thread. It was also the closest one in eye sight that stuck out.

The product in question is the iPad. It should be addressed as the Apple iPad.

This is another example from page 3:

If you cannot see the butchering of sentence flow then you've been using SMS too long.

And again by Sennekuyl

The chopping structure and misplaced commas butcher the language.

Even AppleTools on page 2:

It's [It is] about time a company stood by their designs....

More to the point you don't mix contractions with non-contractions in the same paragraph. I could cite more and I usually ignore it until it becomes common to the point it interferes with enjoying the positions taken by the various commentators.

I am presently hyper-aware due to reading, ``Artificial Intelligence, A Modern Approach, 3e, by Stuart Russell and Peter Norvig,'' where one cannot read more than 3 pages without being bombarded with typos and grammatical errors. It is rather ironic considering the subject matter.

1. Stop being a jackass. Just because you're the end all be all of understanding the English language doesn't mean everyone is. If these users were proven to be born English or if they use English as their primary language, you might have right to bitch. Unfortunately, you don't seem willing to give anyone the benefit of the doubt of maybe being (and here's a shock) foreign to you. It is so painfully and stereotypically American to say "if you're going to use my message boards, you better understand my language...my father fought for the freedom to impose my language on whomever I see fit." Maybe, just maybe, try to not be a stereotypical douchebag? And if by some small chance "Pacific Northwest" refers to British Columbia, I am giving up on being Canadian.

2. It should be addressed as the Apple iPad? Are you kidding me? How many other products called "iPad" does someone, especially on MacRumors think of when they hear that moniker? The answer is 0. This is an Apple fan forum, their existence and creation of these products is sort of implied.

3. I am normally the first person to stand up against SMS and Facebook ruining the grammar and spelling of today's use. However, I do so in practical applications and when it makes sense. I don't try to insult people who don't grasp a language that is not their primary, nor do I consider an internet message board equivalent to a Master's thesis.

4. You are such a pretentious dick it hurts. Nobody will ever be as perfect as you believe yourself to be. Including you, Professor *******.

Quite annoying reading the first page full the Apple fanboy's silly smugness. They can see how silly Samsung's lawsuit is, but not see how silly Apple's lawsuits are. Apple is never wrong to them.

Samsung seriously need to go to hell. They have a sick jealousy over Apple and genuinely believe they're going to stop the selling of products from the world's most valuable consumer electronics company. The only reason Apple has won so many over Samsung is because Samsung is so small and insignificant compared. Just give up Samsung, we all hate you anyway!

Despite some die hard "anti-Apple" people that no matter what happens in court will say that nobody copied anything (usually Android lovers by the way), I think this whole movement by Samsung is one of the worst public relations they could have done.

I for one always looked at their products and brand with a good eye, now, I just avoid their products basically because I completely dislike the way they have been handling this.

I'm with you. No more interest in buying anything Samsung. Maybe we need a worldwide boycott.

I noticed tonight that the latest galaxy 2s ad was rather apple like.

Legos are actually innovative/ingenious in their design to make them stick to one another. They're not just a bunch of rectangular blocks.

Another person ignorant of how many Samsung parts goes into an Apple product.

-_-

Samsung...

PISS. OFF. BANNING. *****. IN. AUSTRALIA.

As a customer, I should have a choice of whatever I want to buy.

:apple:FOREVER!

It's fair in the sense that this is what you're looking at but not in the sense of saying the SG2 is actually faster or can open apps faster. With the same animation, it would be a draw or the 4S would open them faster (so I think.)

You can turn the animations on or off on the SGS2 - he should really have left them on for the review for a "fairer" comparison

Thank you...

to those in this thread who have made me laugh. It's nice to come home and have more interest in reading other people's comments than the actual article :)

I totally agree... People always have something to say about things they know so little about.

Personally, I'm just enjoying the show, people getting all hot and bothered over little gadgets that have so little impact on their lives. I'm just as much enjoying the war between Samsung and Apple. I don't really care which side wins, it's just fun like watching a bar fight :D I want to see more blood

And what losses Samsung would eat from all that would be a lot less than what Apple would loss.
Also Apple dumping Samsung will have very little effect on the company. There is a shortage of those lovely silicon chips so Apple pulling out of them is easily replaceable. It might be 3-4 different companies but still replaceable.

There might be a shortage of chips in general, but not a shortage of Samsung chips, quite the opposite. So you will definitely find a few companies willing to buy Samsung chips - for less than Apple paid.

But there is also a very, very ugly precedent being set - that of a chip manufacturer taking its own customers to court for patent infringement. That kind of manufacturer is not the kind of manufacturer that you want to use, except as a last resort, or as I said, at highly reduced prices.

Some people look at an iPad, and then they look at a Samsung tablet, and they think they look the same. And it's not just an "Apple fanboy". Even Samsung's own lawyers think they look the same, as proven in court.

Samsung...........Oh yeah that's the company that make crappy phones and TV's.

Apple and panasonic 4 life.

Must be opposite night tonight. Because Samsung makes one of the thinnest and clearest LCD TV ever. It also makes one of the best android phone also, the SG2. And its been argued that the SG2 is the best phone out there, though its debatable and not conclusive.

This all just a money game with shareholders money. Good luck with that sammy, not likely to happen. They seem to be losing overall.

All of these IP law suits do pay a lot of lawyers salaries though and conceivably they buy things which puts some of it back into the economy.

Still you can not help but wonder if they funds would be better spent on:

1. R&D
2. Industrial Design
3. Customer support

Its probably time for some form of IP reform? You think?
