Samsung's competitor-copying department can check some things off their to-do list...

  • "thinnest and lightest yet"
  • Gold
  • Answer phone calls from another device
  • Fingerprint scanner

If only they could get them to actually work...
You really think they've added the handoff in the past week? Get a life

I've been expecting a massive security breach on android for years, especially with older 2.x devices, but it hadn't happened ? I've seen as many security issues with iOS as with Android. I don't think security is a good argument for iOS.

Thats just it. There has been. The thieves are much smarter and have access to everything so they don't have to fish. Two coworkers in the last 3 months have been compromised at their banks and no one could figure out how the hackers were getting their pass codes. Hint. They both used Android phones to access their accounts. One lady had her paycheck taken out 3 weeks in a row even after following all the banks instructions and changing her password to increasingly complex codes. It wasn't her bank since she was the only one compromised and she only used her phone to access her account. She finally believe it was the phone and got rid of it, unfortunately to a Windows phone the Verizon guy sold her on, but that was the last time she was hacked. The security issues with Android don't show up often on these pages, or Google searches that aren't very specific. If you search for Android security issues or malware it's are scary place. Google's lock on search allows them to bury anything that hurts their image. They also have power over news sites. Many use google ads to make money. They also rely on Google's search placement to drive traffic to their site. Do you really think they are willing to anger the company that hold their fate and by some accidental change in programing they lose 50% of their search traffic and ad revenue. Not gonna happen. Kind of like when they tried to downgrade iTunes in music searches but someone noticed and called them on it so they changed it back.

At WWDC. The difference is that its on a tablet now, not a device in 3-5 months time, so technically samsung is first with it.
It's still not out. And the fact that beta's are out there and they saw how it works means they are not first. Its like Apple showing the first iPhone in January and releasing it in July. If someone could have hobbled together an answer in that time and rushed it out. They would still be copying what they saw is coming. Can they get there own ideas? Well, the ones they don't copy always suck anyway.

lift much?

I have a N7 as well. Personal, not family. Family tablet is an iPad2. Been waiting for multi-user profiles to show up on iPad so I could update. Wasn't announced at WWDC so the 10" Sammy is what we're getting.

Good luck with that

If you're going to run a story about a competing product on MacRumors, at least give it some relevance. Otherwise it's just a promo for a non-Apple product.

That is, tell us why and how this is significant to Apple. How is the product better than Apple's etc.

What does it mean to Apple.
Use your head! Hint: The competition.

Good luck with that

My money goes to the vendor that gives me what I want. If Apple could have delivered multi-user profiles on the iPad I would have gotten another. Didn't so I won't. I have no allegiance to any company. If your products don't fit my use case and someone else's does... no hate, no love, just business.

I've have Apple, Samsung, Microsoft and other products. I am happy with them all.

It not coming out until some time in July. When you have a template for how it should work and access to the beta and possibly the patent records, a month or 2 can make a big difference. Especially when it looks like you can steal whatever you want and use it for 4 years before anyone can do anything about it. Then claim it old tech that was obvious. Think about it. They have released 4 or 5 Galaxy devices in the last few months, do you really believe this was by chance that all of a sudden their new device that is coming out in a month or two away has features that Apple surprised everyone with, just days before. They also claimed they would soon have 64 bit chips at their even just after Apples last October. Where are they?

You have to go digging to even find Apple products on their site. Same thing in the store. You would think its Best Samsung Buy

Actually all you need to do is highlight Products, computers and tablets and click on iPad. No digging at all. You have to dig deeper to get to Samsung. :)
Every Best Buy I have ever been in has a dedicated Apple display and they had them years before there was a separate Samsung section.

Same price as an iPad ? I would only consider this if it was much cheaper.

We've got three ipads in the house because Apple won't allow multiple accounts on the one device. This device is certainly cheaper than three ipads, and if I wasn't already completely integrated into the Apple ecosystem I'd certainly consider this as an option. I say they deserve some credit for this feature alone, regardless of the rest of the package.

The functionality was already on the Note 3 working with Samsung laptops. Unless they have a time machine, your theory doesn't quite hold water.

Samsung you have no honour. One thing you will not be able to copy is Apple iOS and ecosystem. If your tablets weren't running android and your devices didn't feel so cheap and feeling like a Rip Off, I will one get one. Your Finger Sensor mimmick rip off is exactly that, it will never have the cool factor of Apple:cool::cool:

If you don't care about the security of your families privacy or data to make a point, good for you. And to support a thieving company like Samsung shows what wrong with this country these days.

How dare you not being a smug know-it-all who limits themselves and has to associate with ___ brand!!!

Really...all of you...really? What the hell do you think a software development cycle is like?

Preach. I swear some of these people have no clue of how software development actually works. There is no chance Samsung went from having no plans for Sidesync last week to deciding to implement it and have it ready for shipping on consumer devices in ONE MONTH.

That's complete nonsense, like your earlier anecdote about the bank. I've had multiple devices from multiple companies and have never had a security issue. It's okay to not like Samsung. That's your prerogative. I can respect that. I can't respect making us stuff just to further a narrative. I buy what's best for me. Not Apple, not Samsung, nor any other company.

As for this country, hyperbole aside, there are far more important issues than tablets and phones. IMO you could use a little perspective.

I think today's reality is that everything that could be copied from iOS already has been and except for minor tweaks Apple is kind of stagnant these days so the android folks have moved on, and the android world is where real innovation is happening these days.

I can't understand why Apple can't just copy back and add all the great stuff that Android and even Windows have done? "Not invented here" is an arrogant mindset which killed both Nokia and Blackberry.

I really wish everyone would stop with the 'best yet' garbage. Do we really expect them to come on stage and say "our last product was much cooler, but this one isn't too shabby!"?

That's what Microsoft should have said when Windows 8 was released... ;) :D

I remember hearing all kinds of security questions raised when Apple introduced TouchID, such as "Where is my fingerprint stored?", "Can others access it?", "How is it stored?", and the list goes on. Apple has given extensive information regarding how TouchID works and stores fingerprints. Does Samsung give this information away too or do people using these tablets just not care? Are Apple users the only ones who care about their fingerprints being stored on a device?

The people that "cared" the most about Touch ID security were people that would never consider owning an Apple device in the first place. Samsung gets a free pass though, for whatever reason.
