Charge time

Since the lightning connector came out I have found the iPhone charges faster - better than 1%/minute with the genuine charger

I'm curious - how quickly do Android phones charge?

Interchangeable battery? 1997 wants its innovation back.

Apple called you back. They want to take away your iPhone for three to five business days and an extra of 50 USD for replacing your battery. I love Apple "innovation" in this front...

Battery replacement
(needed after a couple of years due to battery degradation)
80 USD vs 30 USD
iPhone vs Galaxy S5

"Service arranged through Apple normally takes three to five business days".

And with an enclosed and non user replaceable battery I would expect at least some water resistance... but nope. The "old fashioned" Samsung did it, though.

You do realize those are percentages right?

That's what the (%) stands for.

Further down my list is usually Netflix, Dropbox, MS Office, Hangouts, Gmail, Mail, Wunderlist, and Asana.

The device has been idle for 4% and like I said this past day I haven't been using my phone for anything but making phone calls and replying to texts.

As a former and current iOS user, I couldn't even make it a day with just that on an iPhone or an iPod Touch.

Yes, I'm perfectly aware what the percentages stand for, as I had a Note myself and had to manage my battery life carefully to make it to the late afternoon, especially after the device was more than 6 month old.

If you tell me, that with 'heavy' usage on your Galaxy Note, your screen usage will be 17%, then I just have to laugh and call BS. You are certainly *not* a heavy user. Or you life in a dark cave and have the brightness setting to 5% :p

Samsung's battery life might be better than iPhone's, I don't know, since i don't have one. But in my experience our Samsung phones were not particularly great either.

Let me share my experience: wake up around 8am with half an hour web browsing, email checking. Then hop onto ferry to central Hong Kong, with another half an hour web browsing and listening to music. In HK maybe little usage of GPS and Google Maps. Some phone calls, texts, WhatsApp, etc, a bit of web browsing here and there around lunch time. Around 3:00 pm the battery would be around 15-10 % and the device would most of the time be at 2% when I reach home before 4pm.

My LG G2 is so much better in this regard. And in most other aspects, too. So thinks my wife. She couldn't take the pathetic battery life of her Galaxy anymore, too.

Yes, removable battery is a hassle. I don't see any difference between carrying a spare battery vs carrying a portable USB battery charger. In fact, the portable charger is better because you can charge other USB devices. A spare battery is clumsy because it's single purpose.

It depends.

Most of us don't like carrying more than we have to, or having to wait around.

It can be very handy at times to come home / drop by the hotel on vacation, swap batteries, and immediately be on our way again with just our phone.

Use a battery case if you have extended needs ! Basically a spare battery is a hassle.

It's a made-up problem for most people.
If you wait a few years to update your battery, you will upgrade to a new phone instead.

Apple also use higher quality parts. We heard of quite a few cases where Samsung phone caught fire but their legal people make their customers sign NDA before agreeing to swap the phone. There was a huge hoohah with a YouTube video that blew this up.

Because of the higher quality parts and higher demand, iPhones have higher resale value
too.

In comparison, Samsung drop their new phone price FAST to generate the illusion that people want their phone. It is a better deal to wait 6 or more weeks to get Samsung new phones. The differences can be in the region of hundred.

The longer you wait, the cheaper it gets. Then again, if you just want a cheap phone, the Chinese ones are definitely cheaper from the getgo. That's why Samsung is losing out to them as we speak.

As for water resistance, there is a YouTube video comparing iPhone 5s and Samsung's flagship. The iPhone shutdowns quickly. But when the presenter let it dry out and turn it into, it still works. Samsung lasts longer but still shut itself down. Not much of a difference if both shutdown and work after drying out.

But you have to be careful. Samsung's phone may need you to close out the USB port flap before it is fully water resistance. If you leave it open, it may not perform to spec. The Lightning port on the iPhone is water proof.

Wall Huggers! Wall Huggers! Ha ha hah! Ain't it the truth! Ain't it the truth!

And no need for a replaceable $15 battery, just pay $700 for a new iPhone and get the next non-replaceable battery for free!

There will be no end to the laughter, because the iWatch will be just as bad PLUS you'll need to carry an iPhone to get the full use out of it. That's not just one, but two mugger magnets to haul around.

From the secret application exam for Apple's iGadget Marketing Department:

1) Thank you for your non-refundable $1,000 payment to take this exam.
2) Fill in the blanks: "A ____ and his _____ are soon parted."

I think you and other Samsung marketing will find out that all this campaign will achieve is to help Apple sell their next phone.

----------

My dream phone would be Samsung Note 3 hardware, running iOS. The hardware crammed into the Note 3 is impressive (don't tell me Samsung doesn't innovate) and while Android may be more "flexible", I like iOS's elegant simplicity and Apple's ecosystem.

See what I mean ? The rumored 5.5" phone will fit your needs.

No need to succumb to a company who insult you, sell inferior hardware, lie to you, and then make you sign non-disclosure when you want to exchange your phone due to their faulty h/w.

I can count on one hand the number of people I've known with an extra battery for their phone. (Spoiler: Zero. And I work in a fairly large IT Helpdesk group, where I'm one of three iPhone users)

The average user isn't even aware you can leave your phone on while it charges, much less talk/text on it while it does so.

Well if your battery is twice as big as of course it will last longer..

fact of the matter is if the Galaxy had the same size battery as an iPhone it would not stand a chance.

Ah, and? Does it matter?

You buy a product which is offered on the shelf and not based on 'what if's'

What if the iPhone screen was the same size and pixel density as the Galaxy?

Very funny and very accurate!!!!

Wtf happened to battery life in iPhones?

Mine is dead by lunch, and I turn it on at 8am...(ip5)

Poe- thetic

Ps

Can't wait for ip6 (only half kidding)

Touché !

Exactly, these 'what if' comparisons are meaningless. You buy what is offered and compare the results.

That's all we can do. You can't buy an iPhone with a bigger battery or a Galaxy with a smaller one. When comparing phone battery life, no two phones have the exact same specs, so you compare what is offered, just like you said.

Are you in a weak signal area by any chance?

I've had Android phones until the iPhone 5, and the iPhone 5 battery life killed the Android phones in terms of battery life. It seems like Android always sucked my battery dry after 4 hours or so of just moderate usage. I always have 20-50% left on my iPhone after a full day of moderate usage.

However, this whole argument is moot when you consider that you can get a Mophie Juice Pack case for your iPhone. On the days of heavy usage where I run out around 5pm, I can get right back up to 80% with my Juice Pack case. No wall required. :)

And when the Juice pack is released for the S5, you'll be able to do the same thing and will still last longer than the iPhone. These types of comparisons are meaningless.

The Galaxy S5 has undeniably better battery life than any iPhone.

No it doesn't. I had a S5 for about 3 days (returned it since the pathetic 16GB of space didn't work for me) and the battery life was nearly the same as my iPhone. 5s. Both got me to about 30% by the time I left work.

Battery life is hard to compare as everyone uses their phone differently and in different locations. Both impact battery life. Unless you have used both in the same spots and in the same way you can't really say one is better then the other.

 i approve of this advertising, haha but everyone, android and apple users alike are using power banks now. Freedom to the people!

LMAO Samsung's trolling of Apple iFans is a thing of beauty. It's makes some Apple fans, so angry lol jeez. To me, it's just an ad. We've all seen this kinda stuff before. Company A makes an Ad highlighting how they are better than company B. Motorola bashed the iPhone, AT&T bashed Verizon and Verizon bashed AT&T, Apple made fun of Windows. Hell I think Taco Bell and McDonalds had beef (no pun intended :p ) over their respective breakfast menu.

To me, it's an Ad. Nothing more, nothing less. It's simply highlighting a certain feature that they think makes their product better than their number 1 competitor's product. Some people just take this stuff way too seriously. I just don't see any reason to get that angry over an ad.

I currently have a 5S and a Galaxy S5.
  • Battery life on the Galaxy S5 is better
  • The Galaxy takes more attention to keep from installing an app that saps the battery life - open platform
  • When both are sitting on the desk I reach for the iPhone first
  • Anyone that says the Android OS is superior is someone I would question - iOS is just smoother
  • I have the Galaxy for a specific purpose and as soon as I can get my hands on a 5.5" iPhone I am getting rid of it

FYI, if you buy cheap android phones, you get a bad experience. BUT when you buy the premium android phones, the experience is way better than iPhone IMO.

Here are my battery usage stats for today. Last night I swapped my battery before I went to bed at about 1. I listened to Google all access music all day from 9am to 5pm over Bluetooth to my headset (Sony MW1). Did some web browsing, texting in whatsapp, email. My screen was on for 2.25 hrs. made 2 calls during the day (was on hold for a long time on both).

18 hrs with heavy use IMO.

Edit: this is a stock Samsung note 3 (rooted, no bloatware removed), no battery saving modes used, Bluetooth on, WiFi on, screen on auto brightness.

What battery issues? I've never drained my iPhone except when I've taken it somewhere overnight without remembering to bring a power cable AND have used it semi-heavily. I just charge it at home and use it during the day. Is it supposed to last longer than it is?

I don't want a removable battery. It's really ugly and not useful. I can get a battery pack if I want, but no way am I going to carry a spare battery in my pocket. Do you even do that?

No, I'm not going to buy the retarded-looking 5.5" iPhone 6 or some 'Droid with a big screen. Stop telling me that I want it.

So you'll carry a battery pack but heaven forbid an extra battery??

I suggest you rethink your argument as it seems childish.

It characterizes apple users quite accurately. Do you thing samsung would spend the money on this ad if there was no truth in the bash?

If not for iTunes, there are plenty of better phones. iTunes keeps people from leaving.
