I have a Windows 8.1 based tablet for work and an iPad at home. Both are great for what they do. Samsung Galaxy - jack of all trades, master of none.

Just like the Microsoft commercials, am I the only one that thinks these companies are actually doing Apple a favor by giving iPad/iPhone screen time?

Like Samsung saying the iPad does one thing, isn't that a plus if it actually does one thing and it does it darn well? And that close up of the pencil that then reveals the iPad, for a moment it's Apple advertisement.

The problem is that later in the ad is not really convincing that the alternate product is superior, so viewers are left with a vague impression of both products in their mind.

The first 5 seconds of the 5s vs. Note 3 video really shows you the difference when it comes to videos. It’s the primary reason why I went from the iPhone 5s to a Note 3; movies and internet browsing has a clear advantage. I’m able to watch a full length movie while working out on the elliptical/bike without squinting and I’ve lost almost 30 pounds because of this. It’s very difficult to watch a movie from arm’s length using the iPhone. And only nerds/geeks bring tablets into the gym.
And don’t knock the Note 3 for its size. It is not the biggest Android device anymore and there is about 4 or 5 models in front of it.

tried a galaxy note

I had a note 3 for about a week. I loved the stylus, but i couldn't fit the phone in my pocket. its a joke. i returned it and got a 5s. iphone with evasi0n is just badass all around. Also, I don't want to multitask on my phone.

I am glad there is competition, but they lack style. Have you seen their rediculous galaxy mirrorless cameras?

Not gonna lie, thought those were clever ads.

I do want a bigger phone, but not one running andoird.

As for multitasking on a tablet thats only 10 inches, i don't even try to have 2 windows open at once on my macbook or desktop machine on one monitor. I use an external with my macbook, and for my custom rig i also use 2 displays.

I don't think that multitasking on a phone or tablet is ready, otherwise we would see other manufactures following right now. So far samsung is the only one, and even after 2 years of it going on, a large majority with those phones don't even use those features let alone all the other ones like smart stay or air gestures.

That's because they're in first place, and everyone knows about the iPad. Back before the days of the iDevices, when Macs were trailing behind Windows PCs, Apple did all kinds of "we're better than those guys and here's why" ads, just like this.

Image

It's less "Apple would never do that cuz it's tasteless and stupid", and more "Apple doesn't have to do that right now because they're making boatloads of money and are currently considered the standard".

Ahh, but Apple didn't target a specific product, they targeted all Windows PC's they also did it in a comical way, so the adverts were entertaining even for PC fanboys. But yes Apple did something similar, but they did it better :apple:

All of this is meaningless BULL until Google fixes the ridiculously horrible keyboard in Android. For work, I have had the Galaxy SIII for over a year and and HTC before that. I have yet to type a complete email, text, note entry without having to back up and correct 50% of the words typed. Horrible. Android has no idea what I am typing and does not properly correct on the fly. This is something I do not experience with my personal phone which is iPhone.

kind of like the the iPhone commercial that just shows a thumb moving from the bottom of the screen to the top

Pepsi also show Coca-Cola in their ads when Coca-Cola never shows the competitors brand in theirs, when your 2nd place you still have to show some fight and usually the easy way is to mock the competition in your ads

It is not like Apple never done something like that before. Still remember Mac vs PC ads? Still remember how Apple comparing Nexus 7 with iPad mini?

The difference was Apple was comparing platforms not devices or a particular company. Samsung feels it NEEDS to bash Apple. Where is the Samsung add mocking HTC?

First Samsung ad I liked :) funny and made with taste, keep on coming Samsung!

Multitasking stuff is really nice. I often want to read my incoming mail while watching HBO GO or browsing web and I would welcome such a opportunity on iPad.

No, actually a really dumb comparison would be a mini Tab vs a phone, you know, because 1 is not a phone. Breakthrough? I think they were simply pointing out the size differential.

Absolutely nothing about watching a video of Lebron has to do with whether it's a phone, tablet, or phablet. So yes, watching it on an 8" iPad Mini trumps watching it on Samsung's tiny little 5.7" Note 3 if Samsung wants to do a silly "whose is bigger comparison".

Then why wouldn't I just get an iPad Mini Retina? It fits into my jacket pocket. It would also be just fine on an elliptical/bike. It's not that much bigger than a Note that it makes the difference between nerd/not-nerd. Watching a movie on an elliptical is nerdy no matter what.

I'm pretty sure adult hands haven't grown since the launch of the first iPhone. The size is the main reason I went back to iPhone from an S3.

People kept saying Apple needs to go back to a plastic body cause the aluminum body scratches, or the rear glass breaks. They need to make a cheaper iPhone and they will make a killing. Apple fell for it with the 5C and none of those ppl bought what they claim Apple should make. It pretty much shows Apple was right to do what they feel is best and not listen to the moans of 'wise' consumers.

A huuuuge number of people have switched from iOS to other brands because they wanted something bigger. Even "I" dabbled with an HTC One for a while. The screen and speakers on the HTC One are truly excellent. HEAVEN forbid we should have a choice.

Remember, consumers are what keeps Apple in business. Sure, Apple is doing fine. But imagine how much MORE fine they'd be doing if they gave people the choice over the size of their handsets. I'm pretty sure "adult hands" vary from person to person. My hands are much, much larger than my wife's, so clearly we need smaller phones, - by your logic.

Let's give people the choice, and then work from there, yes?

Horrible ad! Poor poor taste! This could have been done 10 timed more classier. But this what we come to expect from Samsung. They compared a smart phone to a phablet what sense does that make???

These ads are pathetic. Unfortunately, the public is easily duped by "bigger is better" messaging and we will soon be hearing Galaxy owners bragging about their phones being "true HD".

Why so bitter?

FullHD resolution in Samsung phones serves two purposes:

1. It is the response to the Apple's retina displays.

2. Solutions like Miracast/etc, which stream screen content over network to TV/etc, need screen resolution which is compatible with the TVs.

I'm not particularly familiar with the tablets, but most Note3 users I know bought it purely because it has large screen. For example: set large font and you pretty much never have to bring the phone to your face to read it. (*Two* of my colleagues with poor sight just got themselves the Note3 for the sole reason!) Several managers here also use the larger phones (SGS3, Note2 and Sony Z1) because they actually have to be able to read and reply to urgent e-mails immediately. Some might have bought an iPhone instead - but Apple simply doesn't make larger devices like that at the moment.

It would have been much better if they took the S-Pen from the Tab to compare it with the wooden pencil and the iPad. I guess they are going for a different feel, but I enjoy the inspiring ads from Apple rather than these douchebag mid-30s white male humour ones.

I like how they hid the thin side bezels of the Air with the dark video. Also, it was kind of funny when they revealed the Tab behind the Air. Make sure your product actually looks better when putting it against your competitor's! The slide out multitasking tray reminded me how ugly Touchwiz is, however I do like the multitasking feature itself.

well the point was that apple dont have a phablet so should they not highlight an advantage for some?

I know pleanty with poor eye sight that just make the text bigger with the iPhone.

Love all the people who are upset by these ads. I thought they were clever and funny.

This coming from a person who owns an iPad Air and sold their Note 3.

The I'm a Mac / I'm a PC ads were quite different. They showed differences but the Mac character wasn't nasty about it. They were designed to let the PC character show it's flaws.

I have no problem with "ours is better" ads, to me that's the point of advertizing.
I really find "that brand sucks and those who buy them are morons" ads very offensive. I've specifically avoided brands that use that tactic.

But then that's just me.

The guy that represented PC looked/acted like a loser next to the Mac guy. It was offensive to PC users.

That said, you should avoid Apple. As for me, I'll stick to buying products based on their quality.

Samsung seem to have to rely on next to useless features to show off their products in advertisements - no one needs a stylus these days (seriously, what year are they living in?!) and I don't want to cut and paste areas of a photo. They also don't seem to be able to coin a different marketing phrase other than 'The Next Big Thing Is Here' which I'm pretty sure they've used multiple times.

They ALSO seem to conveniently skirt around the fact that the iPad is made out of aluminium and glass versus plastic and also that the iPad receives all the latest software updates when your Samsung devices becomes none existent in just a couple of updates - if indeed they decide to give you those updates at all.

Very classy, Apple. ;)
