Why two devices if you can cover it all with just one?

Do these tabs include phone calling? (10 and 12") If so its a perfect Galaxy Note 3 replacement given that small screens are for sucker...

My Father In Law bought a Galaxy Tab 3 7" (based on price) against my advice. It has been a disaster.

It got so hot he couldn't hold it.
It shut down.
It froze whenever using Google Maps (and others) and required a reset.
It kernel paniced, an actual Android system error message stating Kernel Panic !!
Keyboard entry frequently exhibited 5-10 second lags.
The touch experience was utterly unresponsive.
The godawful unnecessary Samsung apps layered on top of the Google/Android standard ones are awful.
The software used to synch it with PC/Mac is called Kies and is officially the WORST SOFTWARE IN THE WORLD EVER. Samsung should be ashamed to release it as production software.

I could go on.

It has been back for 'testing and repair' 3 times but this has made no difference. 2 weeks away on each visit. He signed up for broadband when he bought the Galaxy Tab so he has wasted money on broadband he couldn't use while the tab spent 6 weeks in repairs. He has spent hours going back and forth to the store, complaining and arranging repairs.

This week he returned it and swapped it for a Nexus 7 (2013) and he is now delighted. His Samsung nightmare is over.

This is the reality of very poor products.

Making them BIGGER just makes it worse.

All of this is meaningless BULL until Google fixes the ridiculously horrible keyboard in Android. For work, I have had the Galaxy SIII for over a year and and HTC before that. I have yet to type a complete email, text, note entry without having to back up and correct 50% of the words typed. Horrible. Android has no idea what I am typing and does not properly correct on the fly. This is something I do not experience with my personal phone which is iPhone.

That's just plain trolling.

S3 has at least two keyboard types - Google's one and Samsung's one. That's preinstalled ones - and store has more of the keyboards.

Samsung's one is the default. Swipe and predictive text are available on all recent Galaxies (S2 and onward) out of box. You just have to enable them.

Samsung seem to have to rely on next to useless features to show off their products in advertisements - no one needs a stylus these days (seriously, what year are they living in?!) and I don't want to cut and paste areas of a photo. They also don't seem to be able to coin a different marketing phrase other than 'The Next Big Thing Is Here' which I'm pretty sure they've used multiple times.

They ALSO seem to conveniently skirt around the fact that the iPad is made out of aluminium and glass versus plastic and also that the iPad receives all the latest software updates when your Samsung devices becomes none existent in just a couple of updates - if indeed they decide to give you those updates at all.

Are you absolutely sure that no one needs or wants a stylus or is that your preference like not wanting to cut and paste areas of a photo?

To me, the guy in the ads had a horribly annoying voice. Sounded like a jerk.

I was going to post the same thing!

They talk about how thin it is, but the fact remains that the iPad Air wipes the floor with this thing in benchmarks. Even the iPhone 5S does, and the old iPad 4 even bests it in some situations.

look, that's not important, what is important in the AD is that the tablet is thinner, even their stylus is thinner than a regular pencil

Samsung thinness < Pencil and < iPad Air Performance ;)

No one needs a stylus, but perhaps some things are done better and more precise with a finer tipped device than your finger tip.

If you wish to paint, after leaving kindergarten you realize if you use a quality fine tipped brush you can do finer work more easily, humans evolved to use tools to go tasks better than animals do with their hands/paws.

You finger tip totally covers what you are doing. For pressing a button a finger is fine, it's great for swiping, and general movements but not for things like writing, fine artwork, sure there are ways to get around the problem. but that's just it. It's a problem, that is not there if you use a finer tool to do a fine job.

No reason to hate something just because 1 company wished to promote a touch based screen. When the iPad's screen is made with a higher accuracy perhaps apple will offer an optional stylus for fine work.

I do not see any problem in doing that.

only nerds/geeks bring tablets into the gym.
And don’t knock the Note 3 for its size. It is not the biggest Android device anymore and there is about 4 or 5 models in front of it.

lol,

well... the iPad mini or a Nexus 7 seem like they would be better for that, I mean they are thin, but big screened enough for videos. just sayin'

You are right, in these days it's not about needing a stylus, it's about having the option to use one. I would love to have native Stylus integration on my iOS devices. Samsung devices work great without stylus.

And judging from the success of third party styli for iOS, like Pencil by 53, I am not the only one with this opinion.

and I don't want to cut and paste areas of a photo.

Then don't do it. Samsung does not force you to cut and paste photos constantly.

Stop the presses! Company does not show limitations of their product in their ads.

If you watch a 720p video on both devices, you won't notice a difference. If you view a 1080p Full HD video on both devices, the difference will be clear. The higher resolution screen will easily display a sharper and more detailed image while the 1080p video has to be downconverted to 640p on the iPhone and it will lose a lot of information. It will naturally look softer.

Yes yes .... Gimme a break.
Watch a 1080p video on a smartphone. Fortunately I have a tablet for videos ....

Oops, almost forgot the Note 3 isn't a smartphone but a ridiculously huge "phablet" (whatever that definition means)

Am I the only person who doesn't want a larger screen on my phone and doesn't want to use a stylus?

How small are your pockets? I've gone back to the iPhone but never had an issue with my 5" Android phones fitting my pockets.

Please dont mention skinny jeans either...people should go to gaol for those things!

Note 3 is not a 5" droid .....

Am I the only person who doesn't want a larger screen on my phone and doesn't want to use a stylus?

We are at least two :D

Why two devices if you can cover it all with just one?

Or three. Outside of HD video editing, I do just about everything I need to do on a daily basis on a Galaxy Note 2.

From time to time, I use a Windows 8 tablet to have the best of the tablet and desktop world.

Making them BIGGER just makes it worse.

My wife just got an iPad running iOS8

It got so hot she couldn't hold it.
It shut down.
It froze whenever using bloatware Apple standard apps that you can't remove (and others) and required a reset.
It kernel panicked, an actual iOS8 system error message stating Kernel Panic !!
Keyboard entry frequently exhibited 5-10 second lags.
The touch experience was utterly unresponsive.
The fake multitasking was a pain to use to close all of the open apps.
The notifications center was virtually unusable and a total rip off of Android.
Apple should be ashamed to release it as an innovative device.

That last comment you said was just wrong. Even Apple made the iPhone bigger . . . . well then again, maybe you do make some sense there.

I can easily imagine me using stylus for highlighting during proof-reading. Selecting text on all the devices sucks universally.

It's not like you are forced to use the stylus. It's optional.

I actually prefer plastic for larger devices. Makes the devices lighter.

Sharp edges of the unibody MacBook Pros was the reminder that the plastic bezel on the iBook Pros wasn't a bad design decision, but actually served a purpose. While the unibody is a pure triumph of form over function: looks cool, but quite impractical in real life.

and also that the iPad receives all the latest software updates when your Samsung devices becomes none existent in just a couple of updates - if indeed they decide to give you those updates at all.

True and not true. Mostly not true.

The last two major Android updates were 2.3 and 4.1. The "major update" being defined as big changes in/additions to the Android APIs which establish the OS version requirements for the apps. Most apps on the Google Play store require only Android 2.3, released February 2011.

That was actually my biggest point against Android. But when I finally decided and went with the Android (for other reasons), it turned out that it is really not big deal.

You are wrong Sir. The Note 3 is by all means a Mid sized Phablet. Here are some "properly sized phablets" where you do not have to squint to watch a top notch HD movie ;)

And of course the King Kong

Remember, every Samsung galaxy Tablet is by default also a Phablet, as it can make calls !

Oh crap, I lost my stylus

That's the biggest problem with a stylus. They get lost, and if you don't have another, your phone becomes a brick. Second biggest problem is that the stylus picks up grit and ends up scratching the screen.

Neither of which happened with my Note 2, Palm TX, Palm V, Palm Treo 700w, Palm Treo 650, Palm Zire . . . . .

OTOH, I've lost COUNTLESS duckheads for Apple chargers.

With that reasoning, why would you watch a 1080p on a tablet? Why not on an actual HDTV with a good sounding system instead of a 10 inch tablet with inferior audio and poor video calibration?.... Having said that, you watch a 1080p video on a tablet when you want to use it and you have the option of watching a 1080p video on a phone when you want to. Why settle for less or do you feel that a 480i video is sufficient for a phone?

I love how Apple just ignores them lol

Yeah Apple has the moral high ground when it comes to ads ha ha ha ha ha

I'm a mac, I'm a PC campaign!

If Apple is prepared to dish it out, they better learn to cope it.

Anyone dismissing the stylus: note taking in schools, believe or not, if you go to school/college you'll be taking notes and if it's something like science/math you'll need a stylus for formulas/symbols etc, keyboard doesn't cut it.

Sure it's time time for schools to have holographic projection, interactive immersive oculus rift educational content etc, but come back to reality, note taking is pen-based.

Trust me I tried using a macbook/keyboard to take notes in graph theory class, it was not pretty.

iPad has the most elegant and stylish apps, though I wish it had built-in tech to make a stylus work best, (you can buy stylus for iPad but it's not "native" so the accuracy isn't optimal)
