Apple's been quite condescending to their customers when it comes to issues with their products.

I just find it rather amusing that one company gets a free pass and the other condemned for acting swiftly. Should they have? Yes. Is it life threatening - potentially. Samsung is doing the right thing. How anyone can bash them for it is amazing.

How do you know that Apple is 'condescending to their customers when it comes to issues with their products'?

That's just your own ignorant view.

Apple replace products swiftly and without hassle if you go into an Apple store. I have had three replacements no bother over 10 years, including one for bendgate. I even had an old iPod nano replaced that had been sitting in my drawer for several years after I heard about the recall program. It was replaced with a brand new generation model.

No. It's my personal experience when I had an issue with my iPhone 4. And it came right from the top. The ignorance is yours :)

Well you must suck at public speaking, because that's all that is required when going into an Apple Store with a problem.

Or Apple must have seen through a fraudulent claim...

It came right from the top did it? Did Steve Jobs serve you or was it this guy?

Yeah, Apple certainly could learn something! Next time Apple rush production to undercut the new Samsung phone, without appropriate quality testing, leading to not identifying issues with phones exploding...

Let me guess, you'll quote the 2011 dGPU failures or something, as pointing to Apple not doing a similar thing?

So many posters are out of touch with how the real world/businesses work. What Samsung have done in this situation is fully consistent with what all businesses would do. Samsung have not done anything out of the ordinary; well, other than releasing exploding phones.

Exactly mate!!! All they are doing is covering their back sides!!! There's two possible situations:
1. They recall (all this costs them is the price of a new battery for a few phones).
2. They don't recall... people get hurt... they face multiple class actions globally and consumer watchdogs (globally) force them to recall it. MUCH bigger cost both financially and to their reputation.

---

Comparing this with Apple's response to consumer affairs is a joke. This is pretty straight forward... Note 7 batteries are poor quality and can explode! Happens when you follow the Samesong policy of cramming a bigger screen (plus a bigger battery to power it) into a phone case a few months before Apple launch their yearly flagship model.

Apple... have had no quality issues like this with iPhones. The 'complaints' are ALWAYS trivial, and I'd argue that most are just canpaigns by non-users looking to bring down Apple. Example:
- 'bendgate'... was debunked when we found out that 'the video' was a 300 pound body builder using all his strength to intentionally break an iPhone (and still struggling to do any real damage).
- 'antennagate' was just a known fact about phones... if you cup them in a certain way, the signal goes down (check youtube, people have done it to all sorts of phones). Some guy worked out how to 'cup' an iPhone 4 and it went viral. Apple then went 'touche' and designed the world's first cupping-proof antenna.
- 'chargergate' was some dude in China using an immitation charger that had no gap between the plus and minus.

Every time there's a new iPhone, the anti-Apple crowd invent a 'gate scandal' that is always some false rubbish (that gets debunked, but journos repeat it as a 'scandal' for the next decade... totally forgetting about the debunking).

Samesong? I've seen lota of issues with their phones but they never get reported. Widespread exploding batteries... mate that belongs on phail of the century!!! Samesong has done NOTHING good here. In an attempt to rush a phablet to the market that can say 'I have a bigger screen than the iPhone' they used shonky batteries. Typical Korean junk approach...

Samesong = phail of the century.

What's amazing is that anyone can think Samsung is being bashed for "acting swiftly". Lol. Way to rewrite the comments made, in your own mind.
Please show me the comment saying: "Samsung got on top of this WAY too quickly!! I'm bashing them for it!!".
Oh, you can't?
Oh, you made that up?
Oh, you create straw men to argue against because you don't really have a genuine point?
Gotcha.

Lol... you sound like one of those politicians that goes on TV & instead of saying: "people in this foreign country have issue with America forcing themselves into their local politics", just say instead: "people there hate America, because they hate freedom".

It comes across the same to me.
Naming something random that's "good".... claim other's are against THAT, rather than what they are actually against.

In this case: the rushed-to-market S7 turned out to actually NOT be waterproof as claimed, due to shoddy manufacturing, likely exacerbated by short time tables; the rushed-to-market Note 7 turned out to NOT "quick charge" properly & occasionally spontaneously combust, due to shoddy manufacturing, likely exacerbated by short time tables.
Try to change the dialogue to a monologue all you want... that's what happened buddy. You've been called out!
THAT is what they're being bashed for!!!!!!! NOT "moving too quickly". Lol. But you obviously know that....
(I mean, I really really hope so)

Once again! Stop comparing samsungs reaction to a life threatening defect to Apple' s reaction of a defect after 2 years of use.

Apple should react better to this long term defect. But it is no comparison , really.
Exactly that's what I meant :D

You really don' t understand , do you?

It is not that we don' t think that Samsung is actually reacting swiftly, because Samsung is. And they should.
What disturbs us, is the really hyped up reactions of fans that Samsung really is acting swiftly, oh what a great company for doing so, etc.
That is not great from Samsung , they have a duty to do this. It is common sense to react like this with this kind of defects. It is not great , it is normal...

And than you dare to compare it with how apple handles cosmetic issues and long term defects that are not life threatening. On an Apple fan site for god sake.

Wake up , please!

I read in the Forbes and Bloomberg articles that the cost of 1-5 billion was only for the replacement of phones sold or in inventory. The cost of those wanting a refund was not calculated. Even further the cost of those that were looking to buy and will now not buy Samsung (opportunity cost) was also not calculated. I really think this could be a significant cost issue in the short term for Samsung.

Reading a few pro Samsung reactions here, really got me thinking:

Samsung has tried the last decade to build a fan base, similar to apple' s so called isheep, blind followers.
At least they got that done , can cross that from their list. They have even surpassed Apple in that respect.

Yeah, because they literally pay people to troll online and post positive things about Samsung and negatives about Apple. Not at all the same thing that Apple has built over the years.

If they're feeling "heartbroken" over this screw-up, imagine someone who gets injured by their phone's exploding battery is gonna feel...

At least they didn't offer a "bumper" to remedy the issue.

How would lackluster iPhone 7 sales hurt Samsung?

They're dropped Samsung CPU chips and are using TSMC instead.
Alas, I had forgotten that rumor.

Again, we don't know for certain if they've dropped Samsung for TSMC, as it was an unconfirmed rumor, but if it proves to be true, this will be a rough year for ol' Sammy.

Yeah.... obviously Apple has IMPECCABLE customer service. They are universally praised for it. They make exceptions constantly & cover "out of warranty" constantly.
In the past six months- I had an iPad Pro 9.7" shattered screen fixed free, because "Oh, you had the Apple genuine case on it, front & back... that should've protected it from the fall from your counter to the floor". Ok, Apple- thanks! =)
Then my wife's iPhone 6S was stolen at a store, where she left it at the register; we were following it on "find my iPhone" & the thieves got scared and threw it out the window (shattered screen). It was covered because "it sounds like you've got a lot going on in your life; with that theft & your week old baby you were telling me about- my manager approved a free replacement!" Ummm... wow!!! God bless.
Those are TRUE stories!!!!!!! (heartwarming, huh?) =)
Ignore that other guy... he's out to get a rise out of anyone that will bite.

Really sad considering how it's their best smartphone ever and how their design advancement totally kills the iPhone this year :(

What design advancements are you referring to? Iris scanner? The note7 looks the exact same as the note5 to me.

This is an apple news/rumors website. It's a fan site? Ok.

I "dare" - stop taking things so personally. There's nothing non-genuine about stating that Samsung is acting swifty - whether they have to or are doing it on their own. They are, indeed, acting swiftly. What hyped up reactions How is saying that they are acting swifty - hyped up? The issue was brought to light - and they've responded quickly.

It's you that doesn't understand because you're so blinded by some "hate" for a technology company. That's wasted energy, pal.

Yeah, really life threatening , antenna gate. Stupid comparisons , they really don' t get it.

Samsung screws up bad, almost kills people. At least on the same level as antenna gate, scuff gate, etc.

Way to derail the comment thread there. I said nothing about severity. I said that Apple has, in the past, been condescending to it's customers. Fact. And I illustrated it clearly. I never claimed it was on the same level as anything. Reading comprehension....

It's very unfortunate for Samsung - but I give credit to them acting swiftly and responsibly. They didn't ignore the issue or insist there wasn't a problem. Karma might be a bitch, but Apple could learn something from this.

Apparently, Apple already knows how not to ship phones with exploding batteries. You have to more than a little confused to look at this situation and conclude Apple is the one with the problem.

Or, to be serious: Apple has occasionally recalled products for battery issues, and it doesn't seem they've ever let a safety issue like this go. It doesn't appear they have something to learn from Samsung here.

Its a lesson for Samsung, don't rush your products out just to steal the spotlight from Apple. It turns out that the spotlight is now burning brightly on Samsung for the wrong reasons.

I'm all for healthy competition, but when you have Samsung deliberately rushing products to target Apple keynote speeches and Microsoft bad mouthing Apple in their own adverts, it's quite a sad situation. It shows both Samsung and Microsoft's insecurities and a weakness.

I don't know man, Apple isn't above knocking their competitors. Just look at the get a mac ad campaign. It was launched right on the heels of the Windows Vista release. Apple took advantage of a terrible OS and got hoards of people to switch, myself among them. IMO, Microsoft is just trying to copy the impact of that ad series. Its not working because they're harping on examples that are, to me at least, pointless. Apple, at the time, had legitimate issues to bring up against Microsoft, Which they did as indirectly as possible. That's why it was so much more effective.

As for Samsung rushing, really they just took a gamble and lost bad. I can't say I blame them. It makes sense to try and get your phones to market before apple, especially when the reception for this new phone is lack luster by comparison. It could just as easily went the other way and cut deeply in to apples bottom line. New hardware will inevitably have bugs when it comes to market, its practically unavoidable. Samsung just drew the short straw this time around.

No, you compare the quick actions of Samsung in this case with the way Apple handles qc issues with his customers , and you command Samsung for taking such swift action in this case, contrary how Apple handles this qc issues.

That is a comparison, right? Or not?

If not, I would consider going into politics if I were you...

Only a straw man to you.

Lol. Nice! VERY mature.
I'm surprised you didn't say "I know you are, but what am I?" Lol.

To be ABSOLUTELY clear:
when nobody whatsoever that is bashing Samsung is bashing them "because they took care of an issue so quickly" (the very idea that it would be conceivable to have issue with that particular piece of the equation is preposterous), but instead myriad other issues, but you PRETEND that their issue is they don't like the fact that "Samsung fixed a problem too quickly & now we are mad at them for doing such a good job".... that is DEFINITELY a straw man!!!!!!!
It is to me. It is to you. It is to your neighbor. It is to your grammar school teacher. It is to your mother. It is to my dentist. It is to ANYONE that speaks and comprehends the English language!!!!!!!
A straw man argument is a false premise (like you made), attributing it to your opponents, though they in fact did NOT say it (which you've done), then arguing against that INSTEAD of your opponent's actual points (which you are doing!)
I see that you've rapidly devolved to quick one sentence retorts that don't make sense, but I must say: that is NOT how reality works. When you make up a straw man it is not "only a straw man to me"... indeed, FACTUALLY it is simply a straw man.
