Samsung Compares Galaxy S6 Edge to iPhone 6 in New '6 > 6' Campaign

I have an S6 Edge, it's an absolutely *gorgeous* piece of tech. I honestly think it's the nicest phone on the market right now. Sadly though it feels let down by Android instead of complemented by it, and I don't think that's going to change any time soon.

Where my iPhone and iOS feel harmonious, the Edge feels like it's fighting with it's OS. Pages and scrolls still jitter, integration with other parts of my digital world are not seamless etc.

Until that feeling of 'clunky' one gets on an Android goes away, the iPhone experience is always going to feel more 'premium', no matter what the hardware is under the bonnet.

Really interesting point.
Samsung is a troll in the tech industry. They implement half baked useless gimmicks to try an position themselves as innovators while at the same time copying Apple's marketing style and everything they do but simultaneously mocking them and trying to position them as behind the times. Nice try Samsung.

Luckily the sales reflect this. They seem to be growing in areas where Samsung is genuinely ahead (mobile chip production, SSDs, etc) and behind in smartphones.

Encapsulated everything I think perfectly. It's the last bit of spit and polish that Android lacks and the scary thing is, I don't think they care. That's why I love Apple :)

Not really. No one here is being swayed by this ad and the discussion is overwhelmingly negative. In this case negative exposure is not better than no exposure.
The only thing Samsung has ever proved is that "size matters." Virtually everything else they've done is a gimmick. Phone bumping still makes me laugh.
IMO, the Edge is less impressive in person than in photos. Other than the camera I see nothing of importance. I am extremely pleased with the quality of my iPhone 6 photos and videos.
BTW, I've always liked your user name. It's a good song from a great album.

But anything Samsung always gets people here in an uproar. Some act like their mother was publicly insulted. So I think the ads did a good job.

you cant have both. flexibility or polishing. either one comes at a cost.

you cant say "i like big cars. small cars lack the size of big cars. thats why i love big cars". android users dont care if a scroll or the ui stutters every now and then like ios users. ios users dont care that they cant personalize their devices at all like android users.

saying the one is better than the other is kinda stupid. dont be that guy.

customers of a competing company are talking about it. mission 1 accomplished.
Yeah but not in the way that will lead to increased sales. The tech industry isn't Hollywood, there IS such a thing as negative attention. Microsoft I respect. Google I respect. Samsung? They're a joke.

I love how the ad makes it clear how useless the edge screen technology is. Pointless gimmick soon to be archived and forgotten all about. Garbage.

its very likely that wide(r) angle selfie means u will look fatter in S6 when u take ur selfie extending ur hands. photographers, if i am wrong, please correct me.

I don't think that is the case. I've seen samples online with an S6 and other phones. They look very decent. Just being able to take a picture of your group of friends or family without bothering someone passing by is a huge convenience benefit.

If you go by sales figures they are indeed the underdog. What you did was comparing sales revenue. It isn't wrong too, just two ways of looking at it.

I think the matter of being an underdog is dependent on if you're in a position of envy. If you are in a position in which others want to be you, then you are definitely not the underdog. Most companies would love to be in Apple's position --- that is enjoying huge profit margins and having a brand value second to none.

All I see is glare from the curved edge.

Very wise.

When I answer my phone, I don't speak, so no-one can overhear my conversation. When I get a text, I don't read it, so no-one can read it over my shoulder.
That wasn't witty at all. One situation involves a phone sitting idle in plain view of others, the other two situation involve the phone in use where others probably won't be looking at it. And for the record, I don't speak in places where people can overhear my conversations, I like my privacy. And if anyone were looking over my shoulder while I text, my reaction would be less than pleasant.

Most of my family are dead, I have no need to fit 6 members of them into a front facing camera selfie.

First the Apple fans cried foul when Samsung was poking fun at Apple users for waiting in long lines. They said Samsung should focus more on a product comparison vs poking fun at end users. Now Samsung has focused on a product comparison and the Apple fans cry foul and say they should focus on their own products.

WRONG. First, I just love how people here will call others "Apple Fans". Guess you're not one right? So why be here? This IS an Apple Enthusiast forum after all. People CAN be an Apple Fan and appreciate other brands of tech.

Secondly, people were annoyed at the constant attacks from Samsung against Apple and simply said Samsung should showcase it's product's strengths and features in ads and leave Apple out of it and stop attacking Apple's customers as well. That hasn't happened and Samsung is still up their same shenanigans.

Then they are nothing but the biggest hypocrites worldwide. They create ads making fun of Apple's built-in battery and overly-thin phones with little to no ports.
Then comes the Sammy S6 that not only copies the look of the iPhone 6Plus but incorporates a built-in battery, thinness and very limited ports. Hmm.

Its true that wider angle lenses introduce more distortion. Selfie with lot of people in the frame is one use case for wide angle lens, but for single person selfie and FaceTime video I will have to hold the phone closer to my face with a wide angle lens, that I think will be uncomfortable.

I like the S6 Edge and will likely get one.

But this commercial is pathetic samsung. You have a device here, that for the first time finally has the excellent, top end craftmanship and a device with a LOT of uniqueness.

why do you feel the need to bash Apple? one does not become taller by cutting off the feet of others.
