Bringing your direct competitor's product into your advertising, to be used as a pedestal to step upon to raise yourselves up, is weak marketing strategy at the very least, and extremely juvenile. Either way, you're still bringing "Apple" and "iPhone" brands into the viewer's immediate consciousness ... genius move... yeah, so well done for that eh.

From a perspective, if they are showing a person who is using their phone and might benefit from new technology, then it makes sense.

A person who just purchased an iPhone X or an iPhone 8 is not likely to be in the market for a replacement or upgraded phone (regardless of the maker).

A person who is a potential buyer of any phone is going to be a person who has an older phone and has become frustrated with that old phone.

It makes sense from that perspective.

I just love the print at the bottom of this:

"Model shown is iPhone 6 with iOS 11.2.6. Newer iPhone models are currently available. Screen images simulated"

So in other words they admit this is an absolute false advertisement!

Lazy.

Would have a lot more respect for Samsung if they made a ‘positive’ advert, pushing the qualities of their device.

This sort of negative advertising, just criticising the competition, is lazy, dull, and frankly a bit pathetic in these modern times.

Exactly. Maybe there are no real qualities. I heard many times how a brand new S8 got laggy after just a few months of usage.
AND with my new battery in my 6 I have no performance issues at all.

Like the “I’m a Mac” and “I’m a PC” advertisement campaign?

Meanwhile S4,S5 & S6 with old batteries just shutdown in the middle of the day.
At least Apple gives you options, and takes care of your old battery.
Pathetic Samsung.

I understand why this site disparages the Samsung ad; but the reality is that it is clearly, carefully targeted advertising. It's aimed at people who currently own iPhone 6's, who are primed for a new phone. There's not much value in targeting iPhone 8 owners to switch right now.

No, it is not aimed at iPhone 6 owners, it’s a “preaching to the choir” ad that is aimed at smug Samsung fanboys who need constant confirmation of their choices. The really funny thing is these Samsung ads haven’t had even one itoa of effect on Apple sales or customer satisfaction surveys. Meanwhile the iPhone continues to dominate the premium smartphone market.

This is pretty cheap taking a shot at an older phone .... BUT

As an iPhone 6 owner I am mystified on how slow the device has become. I can only assume that iOS has become very bloated. The phone use to be very snappy. Now, the same, basics apps: Mail, Maps, Wallet, etc .. are glacially slow. Siri was immediately responsive - instant. Now if I want Siri to set an alarm for me I'm sometimes waiting for 10 or 15 seconds to see if she responds. WTF happened? Its a terrible experience. Make improvements to an OS should not default to it running slower. In fact, the basics should be running faster as routines are optimized, yes? During the transitions from Mac OS 10.0 -> 10.1 -> 10.2 -> etc my Bondi blue iMac became FASTER and MORE RESPONSIVE because of OS optimization.

There are no new improvements to these apps/OS that justify how slow the phone as become. When I try to make a phone call why the F*** does it often take a 10 seconds to open THE PHONE APP! If one application should be streamlined and optimized - even for older devices - if should be the phone app, yes?

I would have preferred to stay with an older version of iOS. The phone did everything I wanted to - at great speed.

I have been using technology since the 70's - I understand the upgrade cycle. However, the iPhone 6 is a very powerful device. It is capable of running the apps I need at a very quick speed. I know - because it did. I know feel like making a switch to Android because I feel like I am forced to buy a new iPhone just to make it operate at a reasonable speed.

EDIT: I checked - it it NOT being battery throttled.

I’m no fan of Samsung, but this is a very clever concept.

The iPhone 6 was the last supercycle, where folks replaced iPhone 4’s.

Most folks don’t know what the latest iPhone is so they could be fooled into thinking the relative performance difference is representative.

I think this could steal a few sales compared to a proper comparison.

I’d recommend Apple make an ad aimed at this same demographic and compare iPhone 6 to 8 and X. Maybe even speak to the Samsung ad and disarm it with some Apple mojo.

Almost every single car advertisement carries the same kind of print. It’s not like these fiberglass and aluminum cars can actually do all the crazy stuff they show on the commercial. That’s why they put the small print on the screen.

Well, if ads are going to compare current devices with competitor's long ago ones Apple should turn around with an ad featuring exploding Galaxy Note 7s using "Hot, Hot, Hot" as the background music.

Funny thing is Samsung reveals the S9's inadequacy here but I don't think they realize it. Brilliant.

Love the notch haircuts lol!

Yes it is silly comparing a 4 year old phone against the latest flagship phone, but still my iphone 6 Plus was the worst iPhone i ever owned!

It was slow and laggy and it was possibly because it didn't have enough RAM or a fast enough processor for the increased screen size. It was frustrating to use that phone, but i kept it for a year until the 6S Plus came out and gave that crappy phone to my sister (who still has it lol).

So that was the only phone out of all the phones i've owned in last 20 years, that i got rid of after only 1 year.

Funnily enough, it's replacement the 6S Plus is the only phone i will have kept for 3 years....

Keep on mind there are lots more Underwood things going on in iOS a the time, things like dynamic encryption and decryption. Your processor is frozen in time. Eventually it doesn’t have the horsepower to do things quickly as in days of olde. Also if your battery is tired, the throttling to prevent crashing will add to this situation.
