I agree with this - iPhone 6+ was the worst iPhone I’ve ever owned. But for Samsung to go and compare to a four year old device, in the tech industry, that’s like a Kia Sorento from today being compared to the Ford Pinto. Not even apples to oranges - more like apples to tomatillos.

Well, iPhone 6, 6S, 7 and 8 are pretty much the same stale design with large ugly bezels. And, Apple customers that are accustomed to the physical home button, symmetrical display, touch ID and audio jack aren't going to accept the iPhone X without physical home button, missing chunk of display, no touch ID and audio dongle. That's like Ford switching the steering wheel to the other side and removing AC, roll up windows, etc. and expect customers to just accept it.

Upon leaving the store, she walks by a person with a notch-shaped haircut that clearly pokes fun at the iPhone X, as in an earlier ad.

Why did you decide to upgrade ?

I would have preferred not to upgrade, but Apple does their best to force, or trick you into upgrading. Any service/diagnostic at the Apple store will come with a forced upgrade.

Also they have that sneaky, misleading dialog box to trick you into upgrading where the options are something like "Now", "later" and "details"... the only way to dismiss the dialog box is to click "details" (which I've already seen and am familiar with) when what I really want is "NEVER".

I own an iPhone X and can confirm that iPhone 6 slow as glacier before upgrading. While I want to hate Samsung for comparing old phone to new phone I can’t as the comparison they made was pretty fair. Opening the wallet app took nearly a minute on my 6 same as maps. Really frustrating experience. But I would never switch to Samsung over that since phones ageing is part of life
I’m a tech support and most of time users says that are some mess in the system, after I tune it, settings things correctly and updating to a fast point release the iPhone runs great even the older ones. As computer, most of times they feel slower because the user did many things wrong.

Very poor. I’ve really liked their ads mocking Apple in the past and they’ve usually had a point, but this is weak and not funny. Shame

Classic Samsung - pathetic, desperate, clueless. Their best shot - let’s compare 4 years old iPhone to our latest flagship.

So the ironic thing here is that customers who buy a smartphone and only upgrade every 4 years are going to be sorely disappointed with a Samsung device.

Anybody know where the Galaxy S5 is today? The fact of the matter is that hardly anybody is still using it because it is not even usable after 4 years.

- No more Android updates after about 18 months
- Slower than the iPhone 6 to begin with
- No customer support -- not even a store -- where you could bring a Galaxy S5 and even ask them to fix it to make it fast again

Its like Samsung is attacking Apple for making a phone that actually lasted people 4 years.

I really want to see somebody make a parody of this ad....

1) Passenger in line pulls out a Galaxy S5 and tries to show their boarding pass and the device shows a "hijacked" screen because of the malware that has infected the phone which does not run with he latest update. The passenger is asked to step aside.

2) Next passenger has a Galaxy Note 7 and is told "Sir, you cannot board the plane with that phone because it may explode"

3) iPhone user then scans phone and boards plane and looks at the other two people with pity

--- cut scene ---

It's raining out, Samsung user in a cab.

-- Phone being slow and crashing and rebooting

-- passes one Apple Store

-- passes another Apple Store

-- passes a third Apple Store

-- asks driver, "can you take me to the Samsung store?"

-- driver answers, "mam, I think they only have those in South Korea -- I've never seen one"

These ads are brilliant. They’re clearly targeting those people who haven’t upgraded in a while. Honestly, Samsung Ads are miles better then Apples. The stupid “what’s a computer” ad and the other iPhone ads are trash. Sorry. It’s funnny watching people squirm over these ads though. Feeling a little insecure?

Yeah...

And they likely used an iPhone 6 with five thousand charge cycles, weak battery, and throttled processor.

Bit too opinionated for a news article, I feel like you were triggered by it and were angry as you were writing it. At the end of the day it's just a Samsung ad, they're always comparing against Apple and of course it's unfair because they don't really have an edge (unless you're counting the curved edges) and need to promote their product. It's dishonest in terms of comparing the 2 platforms although it still makes sense because there are a ton of people with slow iPhones, not everyone has the 8 or X.

They literaly wrote it in the changes on the software update, but people never read anything and just click ok.

Permanently limiting the maximum performance the users device is not "improving power management during peak workloads". Nobody thought it was throttling until the Geekbench benchmark tests started showing the reduction in processor utilization across many devices. Only then did Apple finally admit that it was deliberately slowing down older devices, although they did say it wasn't an attempt to force users to upgrade.

I honestly think Apple might have a case against Samsung here for trade libel or something similar. This is intentionally deceiving, even with all the fine print.

What would you rather have, slow phone at night or an exploding phone at night.

One causes death
Considering that the exploding one isn’t for sale since almost 2 years... unlike the 6 and 6s which is still being sold by Apple with damaged batteries. Don’t forget Apple phones explode often aswell and instead of being recalled they are resold as refurbished ;)

Bringing your direct competitor's product into your advertising, to be used as a pedestal to step upon to raise yourselves up, is weak marketing strategy at the very least, and extremely juvenile. Either way, you're still bringing "Apple" and "iPhone" brands into the viewer's immediate consciousness ... genius move... yeah, so well done for that eh.
I think they realize their bigger audience is switching iPhone users than trying to compete on merit.

From a perspective, if they are showing a person who is using their phone and might benefit from new technology, then it makes sense.

A person who just purchased an iPhone X or an iPhone 8 is not likely to be in the market for a replacement or upgraded phone (regardless of the maker).

A person who is a potential buyer of any phone is going to be a person who has an older phone and has become frustrated with that old phone.

It makes sense from that perspective.

Right, and if they had shown in the add someone getting frustrated with their old samsung S6.... then no one would be saying 'cheap shot' but would be congratulating Samsung for their honesty. As it stands, plenty of people do upgrade from last year's model, so sure Samsung be brave and compare yourself to the 7 or really brave and compare yourself to the X.. if you can beat out the X then the upgrade is clear for every iPhone, X, 8, 7, 6S, 6.... as it stands they are saying only upgrade if you have an iPhone 6.

Sorry, we can try to rationalize their choice, but it does show they are weak and scrambling.
