I find it funny that Samsung keeps making fun of people who stand in line.

I mean... that happens one day a year... and it's such a tiny percent of Apple customers anyway. Why does Samsung focus so many of their commercials on it? It's such an insignificant number.

Quick question... How many of the 37 million iPhones sold last quarter went home with people who stood in line?

I just think that touting the fact that it has a stylus as a "competitive advantage" because of it is just ridiculous. A very small minority want one, and for those that do, you can get a special stylus for under $5 to use on an iPad and iPhone, etc.

You know that is like saying a marker is a good pen.

The special stylus for the iPad/iPhone is more like a marker. Apple does not all iOS to handle input at that fine of a point. It toss it out as noise. The Note has some special apps that allow it to accept input that is finer than what is normally used and tossed out.

Samsung uses bad marketing techniques. They ignore facts, use insults, try and make their products look like what they're not, and completely avoid logical arguments.

Problem with this specific commercial: The only thing we know, is that the phone has... a pen? Then everything goes wild.

What on earth is a viewer supposed to learn from this? I must say seeing everyone go wild was actually pretty funny though

You should look at the note. It is something that combines a tablet and a phone.

One of the biggest short comings of tablets right now is the lack of being able to use a stylus. For many things I would love to have one. Big time for taking notes or writing things down. In those things a stylus is just by far better. For basic navigation yeah the finger is great.

Sorry, the One True Design has been handed down by the deity Steve and the faithful iSheep flock will not abide any other notion.

But for everyone else the stylus is a promising device to bridge the finger and the mouse. People who think that finger operation can ever be as useful as mice are idiots.

A pen?
a stylus.

they blew it.

St. Jobs smiles down upon thee.

..

that was just frickin offending. The fan boys are supposed to say "thats a stylus, nahh... "

Are you all retarded or something? It's a capacitive touchscreen that works with a fine-tipped stylus- that is why it's a feature. Oh, and it's pressure sensitive like a Wacom tablet.

The third-party styluses that are available for the iPhone? Fat tipped and unresponsive.

You can slot the pen back into the phone and use your finger and it's still as responsive as a normal capacitive type touchscreen if that's what you want to do

Seems to me there is a difference between Windows users and iPhone users. I don't have a Windows laptop because I think it's superior, I have one because I use Windows everyday at work, it's what I'm familiar with. And I see no reason to have more than one laptop. Now that I have an iPad I hardly ever use my laptop. I only use it when I absolutely need mouse like functionality (or if I'm downloading videos off YouTube to put on my iPhone/iPad).

I don't think the Mac vs PC ads were insulting the user. Probably most Windows users are using the product out of familiarity not choice. Don't think the same thing can be said about iPhone users. Last time I was at BB I asked about ultrabooks and why someone wouldn't just get an Air. Salesperson said its b/c people are used to Windows. They want the form factor of an Air with the familiarity of Windows software.

If that is all you learned, you should watch it again.

And wouldn't Samsung love to have people standing in line for their products. :D

:D

Stay put, then.

I promise that touch will completely annihilate pointing devices once major apps are recoded and optimized for it. I -for one- can't wait.

Digital drawing? How will recoding and optimization deal with the fact that your finger is twenty times fatter than a normal pen?

Insult your competitor's customers. That will get them to switch!

Seriously? After "Mac vs. PC", you honestly think that Apple has a right to complain about something like this? They literally invented this campaign model.

----------

Apple ads are the best because they show the actual product working, not some people dancing saying how "cool" it is.

The only thing I saw in this ad is a stylus (seriously?) and a FaceTime rip-off.

Again, "Mac vs. PC" campaign.

Just a few problems Samsung.

1. If your main selling point of a tablet is a pen, I don't think you've worked hard enough on the Tablet. Yeah, Apple releases a "slightly upgraded" phone every year but they don't market it based on a ****ing pen.

2. If the street got that busy and noisy someone would eventually call the police. People waiting for Apple products wait in a queue because they're civilised (at least in most countries).

3. That didn't look like the real Justin Hawkins so I'm guessing you at least asked him and he rejected.

Regarding point 3. I read an article yesterday about people copying Apple and stealing their business model but only stealing the minor parts. I'll paraphrase it here "Other businesses copy Artists, Authors and Designers. Apple doesn't, they just hire the Artists, Authors and Designers".

Good effort Samsung (Sorry, I lied, it's a terrible effort). If you want love do something better. For now though the EU would like to show some love so I'd concentrate on that.

I look forward to the replies.

Frankly the IDEA of a pen is cool to me....however, I'm not part of the maybe 5% of the cellphone users out there who would rather use a pen for input rather than my fingers. Pen input devices failed a long time ago as general devices.

Apple releases a 'slightly upgraded' phone every year that is slightly faster or has more megapixels.

What Samsung have here is a pressure sensitive, 720p AMOLED display that works with a fine tipped stylus. Tell me that isn't a better selling point than "you can now crop photos in Photos.app".

What's your point? Samsung users cause riots and disruption to the peace on the streets? This is an advertisement, not a documentary.

How would that thing even fit in your pocket?!

Actually, it fits in my pocket just fine without falling out or stretching the material. And no they're not baggy jeans with enormous pockets that would fit an iPad ;)

Code:
A pen? If you really want one, you can buy one for any smart phone, wtf? Samsung is desperate.

A capacitive stylus is not the same as a pen input with a digitizer (wacom). This phone has a digitzer just like the htc flyer does. They are much more accurate and have pressure sensitivity as well as support for erasing with the back of the pen.

I can't believe they used a stylus as a selling point...

No kidding! Especially with Apple users lol! Do they understand their competitor AT ALL??? :roll eyes:

When they said, IT HAS A PEN??? I laughed out loud! If that is your selling point then WOW that is sad haha!

Bill Gates??? :p Here, problem solved for you!

I love how people ripped the iPad apart as a big iPod Touch and said there was no room for a 3rd category, yet now Samsung is literally throwing every size and form factor at the wall to see what sticks and thinks they can make a category between the spot where nobody thought there was another category to begin with lol! Really??? :roll eyes:

P.S. Samsung said recently that they want to be more like Apple and have people lust over their products and be devoted to their brand etc. Well it is BEYOND obvious that Samsung has NO IDEA how Apple earned that and that is why they will never be able to copy it! It isn't some mindless superficial phenomenon! It is real intent and the purpose with which something is done. It is the reason why the entire world payed homage to Steve when he passed and why not a single person could tell you Samsung's CEOs name lol! Sorry Samsung, you fail, you have never been and never will be what Apple is! :apple:

If you don't want to use it then slot the bloody thing back into its holder and use your finger.

If you want to talk about a lack of selling points then get this: Apple's main 4S image on their home page shows the 'crop photo' function. Really? Now that's a selling point to make fun of.

I agree.

Apple started its journey to become one of the largest consumer electronics brands over 10 years ago with the iPod... 5 years ago with the iPhone... and 2 years ago with the iPad.

Samsung seems impatient. They want overnight success by doing the only thing they know how to do... tearing down Apple users.

Best of luck to them...

None of you jokers saying it suck have ever tried it.
It's pretty good.
If the next iPad has stylus capability it would make it a thousand time more usefull.
You just can't write with a finger like a pen and that's the truth.

Also, very few people are able to sketch anything wih an iPad that doesn't look like it was done by Micheal J. Fox.... Or a 2 year old.
