If you don't want to use it then slot the bloody thing back into its holder and use your finger.

It has a pressure sensitive, 720p capacitive touchscreen that works with a fine tipped pen. That is why it's a selling point.

If you want to talk about a lack of selling points then get this: Apple's main 4S image on their home page shows the 'crop photo' function. Really? Now that's a selling point to make fun of.

If that was the selling point then maybe they should've mentioned it in the ad. All I saw was, "wait your phone has a pen?" LSD induced mayhem begins.

As someone who would very much like to have a more pen-like input device for digital sketching, this doesn't strike me as a very effective ad. The strength of a stylus as a marketing gimmick is questionable as is. Here they don't even really convey the advantage this device has has over using a run-of-the-mill capacitive stylus.

I just stand in line once (for the iPad) and it was great fun. I met many nice people and talked with them about Apple. We drank some coffe and Apple employes gave us free drinks. I enjoyed it :).

PS: Sorry for my poor english.

Oh so riots are a good thing? Again, Apple got there first proving that riots are not a good thing. https://www.macrumors.com/2012/01/1...in-beijing-as-swat-teams-respond-to-violence/

Say what? Brush up on your comprehension skills- my point was that this is an advertisement, not a documentary, so I have no idea what you were trying to get at.

When was cropping in the Photos app a selling point of the iPhone? It was a software update, so your point is moot.

Take a look at Apple.com and note what the iPhone are displaying- the homescreen, the notification panel and the Crop Photos feature.

And that's funny because one of the reps at work has the Note. It's a nice phone but he can't fit it in his trouser pockets so he has to leave it in a locked drawer, much like I leave my iPad. I carry my iPhone because I need it for work - as he needs his phone, too - but I'm not really inhibited by the size of it.

Which is funny, because I have normal sized suit trousers that fit my Note just fine.

I think the overall complaint was that this was a horrible commercial. Doesn't matter if you're a fanboy for either side; this IS a horrible commercial no matter how you spin it. First off, it mocks the very people they're trying to attract. I personally do think that people who stand in line for hours, if not days, for new Apple products are idiots. I'm an Apple fanboy but you'd never catch me waiting in line. In fact, I still have my 3gs. Secondly, all of you stating that the Note is great NOT because it comes with a stylus but it comes with a fine tip stylus with pressure sensitivity and blah, blah, blah. Great. I do actually think that's kind of cool. I would love that for my iPad. Too bad it was never mentioned in the ad.... AT ALL. You know what makes a great ad? Summing up all your selling points into one stupid line that doesn't get across ANY of your selling points.

Also, all the comments about the "I'm a Mac" campaign. You should really rewatch them again. Never do they attack the end user. I mean they start off with, "Hello I'm a Mac. And I'm a PC." The ads towards the end of the campaign actually had them trying to convince a buyer/user why they were better than the other.

To anyone saying "Remember Mac vs PC ads?". Apple didn't make fun of people who bought PC's, they just pointed out the flaws of a PC.

Oh, a stylus, right? We’re going to use a stylus. No. Who wants a stylus? You have to get ‘em and put ‘em away, and you lose ‘em. Yuck. Nobody wants a stylus. So let’s not use a stylus. We’re going to use the best pointing device in the world. We’re going to use a pointing device that we’re all born with — born with ten of them. We’re going to use our fingers. We’re going to touch this with our fingers." - That's what Steve Jobs said 5 years ago...:apple:

Desperation.

That's what this commercial looks like to me. Samsung is getting pretty desperate when it can't attack the product because it can't compete, so instead they mock and attack the users.

Very sad indeed.

I think this commercial is funny and i also believe it will attract customers away from the iPhone.

I am a diehard apple fan. But i can see that iPhone is more and more a commodity - at least in Sweden. It doesn't matter if the UX is better on an iPhone - if samsung sells the "latest" it will attract many people. I believe Apple needs to differentiate the portfolio to include more than 3GS and 4S. The bigger screen on other smartphones attracts many users. Maybe not the 5" but 4" is not that bad - especially when bezel is smaller on many of them and make the iPhone look a bit bulky.

Don't make fun of my religion!!!

Seriously guys, don't take yourself so seriously. How is it any more offending that the Mac-PC ads Apple run? The add wasn't as funny as the first one, but still quite ok.

And yes, I still buy anything shiny Apple makes :)

He was wrong.
The tech is better suited for a device capable of both inputs.
Why not?
And there is usually a slot for the stylus. It's pretty hard to loose it. And even if you do, get another. They are cheap as dirt.

Yeah, and a stylus will fix that.

Ok , write a letter with your finger on an iPad. Then try it with a pen and paper. This really shouldn't be so hard to understand.

This was actually a fun ad. Obviously people here feel insulted by it, but really, if you get offended by this then you're more like the idiots in the ad than you realise.

As for the stylus, you don't have to use it. Throw it away if you want. It's just an option.

But thats the point! Jobs saw a stylus as a dead end for an interface device. With multi-touch combined with voice activation and recognition, unless one is an 'artist' a stylus is pointless.

But just because Jobs saw it that way doesn't mean he was right. A stylus could still offer some use, and for the things it doesn't help with, there is still a finger-friendly display. Obviously given the size of the device it is meant to offer PDA functionality, and so handwriting recognition is a big plus.

EDIT: I'd agree that on smaller devices it would be out of place, but the Note is big enough incorporate it effectively.

All I remember from the ad is people doing stupid stuff and dancing badly. Terrible marketing if that's the image you want people to associate with your phone.

Ah, you mean like the hundred "I'm a Mac" commercials attacking PC's and their users?

I think you misunderstood the ENTIRE premise of "I'm a Mac, I'm a PC"

It's right there... you even said it yourself:

I AM A MAC... I AM A PC...

Those 2 people standing in front of the white background represent computers.... not users.

Remember the commercial where PC got sick? That was a computer virus... not a real person catching a cold.

There were also plenty of commercials talking about Vista. Again... that's a computer operating system.... not a person.

I also remember PC trying to hide from spyware while wearing a trenchcoat and fake mustache.

Computers get spyware... not people.

Is any of this making sense yet?

eBay iPad stylus. If you really want a stylus you can get one

lmao I don't care for the stylus i like simplicity isn't a touch screen supposed to be hand controlled even those future computers don't have pens I think the stylus is so 2000 and in any case how are you supposed to play doodle jump with a pen :p anyways I sure you get that penny thing for the iPhone
