Are you trying to say that Hodgman looked sharp in Apple commercials?

no but he was meant to be a PC (not a person) and this slight twist makes it different because its not offensive to the user.

If hodgman was typing on a PC as a user it would have had a completely different feel as it would stereotype the user themselves.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; CPU iPhone OS 5_0_1 like Mac OS X) AppleWebKit/534.46 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.1 Mobile/9A405 Safari/7534.48.3)

Why do so many of these lame competitor commercials end up showing a bunch of people going to a house/street/rooftop party that NO ONE would seriously end up at due to their stupid mobile device? A phone will NOT make people popular, thin, or socially adept, but that's all I see on non Apple commercials for the past year or so.

Have you seen Droid commercials? And of course you won't see any partying on iDdevice commercials. All you see there are perfectly manicured hands moving left and right, left and right. Very exciting.

That would imply that "smart" PC users were using "stupid" PCs. Does this sound plausible to you? Perhaps the inference there was not as direct but anyone older than 5 year old could still get it.

Are you guys really serious? When you make fun of someone's car you are not making fun of the car, you are making fun of the person with the car.

When Apple is making fun of the Windows software, hardware, experience or whatever you are choosing to call it, they ARE making fun of the person that chose to use that platform.

It is funny to see all the reactions on this thread though. All the Apple defenders probably spend less time defending their children - lol.

Obviously your new to technology or you would have remembered the incredibly successful Get a Mac commercials showing windows as un cool. Check out youtube, newbie.

Apple focused on poking fun at the PC, not the PC users. There's an ocean of difference.

You're right. they didn't target the hardware. They targeted the software.

which still isn't the users

I don't think it matters to be honest.

Samsung aren't targeting Apple fanatics as potential customers. Those who get offended by commercials like this one aren't going to be buying a Samsung device no matter how amazing it is. :D

The genius of these commercials is it plays up to the stereotypes a lot of normal non-Apple people have about Apple fanboys. There are a substantial number of people out there who would never stand in line for hours upon hours to buy the latest smartphone or tablet. They can't relate to or understand the people who do. And they will find a lot of humour in this commercial.

I wish the iPad was pressure sensitive to a stylus pen like a Wacom tablet...would love to have that feature.

As i said its a small difference, but thats exactly what they (apple) were saying... "Get a smarter computer" (with an unspoken reference to macs being "cooler") rather than "your lame cause your lining up for an iPhone and not trying this magical stylus device"

I think that small difference really changes the perception of the advertising.

I dont hate the same sung ad, its funny ... just pointing out the subtle difference, and they probably could get there without a lame jab at iPhone users.

just my opinion, each to there own.

The Galaxy Note shows real promise, unfortunately Android 4.0 ICS has not been released for the Note. Once it gets ICS, anyone who is mildly competent in using a mobile device would would switch to ICS from iOS 5. Until then, iOS 5 is superior.

You may never see Samsung going to ICS. They have slapped their own overlay onto Android 2.2 and may stay there due to some new restrictions that Google placed on ICS. Amazon is doing the same thing with the Fire.

ICS is so toxic that Moto may be the only one going there once they are owned by Google.

It's just an advertisement. No big deal. This is nothing more than another example of the mediocre state of most ads in the US. No different that the Mac vs PC ads Apple ran for years.

To sell to lame people to clueless to know that this is true?

Thing is, back when Jobs came back to Apple he knew Apple had two assets - 1. the brand, and 2. the OS. They both form a really strong core. What does Samsung have? Well, if they thought about it for one second and took a page out of Jobs book, they would change their name to Galaxy. Come up with a really dope spiral logo and then they will be half way there. A logo is like a badge. It's like wearing a t-shirt of your favourite band, like it or not, people are proud of their products. If they really want to make some headway and seriously compete against Apple, well any company at least, they have to start at the core.

Who gets paid to come up with such crap? The more they focus on Apple the more people subconsciously realize that Apple is the leader. I am so sick of cell phone and car commercials.

I concur, but I'd also point out the fact that insulting the competitors audience won't get us to switch, at all. What's the point in trying to get the attention of iPhone users for a new phone (as if they'd really get out of line anyways LOL)? Shouldn't you just market the phone for a newer audience, if you want to expand?

That's why I appreciate the Apple (iPhone) ads. They don't take jabs (or at least obvious ones). They focus on the features and shows EVERYONE, not just a specific group, the iPhone works like "this" or come up with lines like "There's an App for that" (could be cheesy but it works). As opposed to, "Oh, you want a Samsung/HTC/etc phone, all the cool people already know the iPhone is the best. . ." or something childish like that.

Samsung try again, or better yet, don't.

Riiiight...
"Hi, I'm a mac
and I'm a PC."
You must be forgetting about all those commercials.

Dear god, this thread is full of.....fanboys....like complete fanboys who are stuck in the Apple reality distortion field.....really guys, do some research before you talk. This place is filled with either trolls or just plain idiots.

It seems that "Hi, I'm a Mac, and I'm a PC" is all you remember from those commercials.
1. Mac vs. PC commercial = Product vs Product commercial
2. Customers (i.e. target audience) are never insulted or made fun of
3. Mac and PC are portrayed as buddies
4. PC guy is portrayed as not so cool (compared to Mac) but still lovable and polite guy.
Apple didn't say "buy our product, you idiots."

This Samsung Ad is a fail because:
a. to competitor's customers, Samsung didn't successfully show and compare the Note's superiority compared to the competing product (the iPhone).
b. to competitor's customers, Samsung insulted the users who stand in line for the product(s) they believe to be hot.
c. to new (i.e. on-the-fence) customers, Samsung didn't successfully show and compare how their product is superior to the competing product (the iPhone).

What'll end up happening is that on-the-fence customers will either talk to their friends who'll say how much they love their iPhones, or visit one of Apple stores where the Apple staff would be happy to show them how cool the iPhone "really" is and they'll forget this commercial or the Galaxy Note.

I wish the iPad was pressure sensitive to a stylus pen like a Wacom tablet...would love to have that feature.

The iPad doesn't need to be pressure sensitive to use a stylus. Do a little research and you'll be amazed how many styluses you can buy for the iPad.

What I saw in the Samsung ad can be done with your finger on an iPad. Plus, the Samsung device is too big to carry in your pocket, big enough to be ridiculus to hold up to your face like a phone and too small to do most of the things an iPad can do.

Stupid is as Samsung does.

Damn. Not a bad commercial. Why? Because I didn't know that there WAS a current smartphone that supports a stylus. I used a Palm Treo before the iPhone and I loved it.

I *WANT* a stylus.

Have you ever tried to do serious graphics with your finger? It is like finger painting.

I am a graphic artist and use a Wacom with my Mac. It is pressure sensitive and fabulous. I want to do serious drawings and I want to quickly enter text with a pen to take notes instead of using my fingers on a mini keyboard.

This move toward gesture based computing excludes the fact that there are many modes of input and I wish that Apple would support them.

How about you do a little research on how a stylus is used before saying pressure sensitivity is not needed.

Stupid is as... Nevermind.

As much as you are upset that Samsung poked fun at a collective of tech users, you shouldn't really try to make a point by posting fallacies.

The Kindle Fire is based on Android 2.3, which in turn has nothng to do with Samsung's plans to update their current lineup to Android 4.0.x.

The situation with the original Galaxy S not getting ICS is utter BS, but Samsung will be updating both the SGSII and Galaxy Note to ICS.

Ridicule is the sincerest form of flattery. Er...

Actually it's an amazing means of behavior modification....

Haha, that actually made me laugh! I'm not sure it will convert anyone but the "Freedom!" part is priceless :D
