Cornier than Apple!

Apple has made some corny commercials in the past, but this Samsung commercial was cornier than anything Apple has created.

What a horrible ad from Samsung. In the beginning, they do a good job at poking fun at the corniness of Apple fanboys. It would have been a good ad had they maintained the 'anti-corniness' theme from that point onward. But instead, the Samsung commercial descends into a different flavor of corniness which surpassed any corniness in any Apple commercial ever made.

well i love my pen for the iPad, writing has never been easier and i dont get stupid finger prints all over the place.

anyway, not that i love this ad or samsung for that matter but apple promotes pretty silly things too, anyone remember that cut & paste commercial or now the photo cropping ... HELLO 2001. the german Siri commercial even goes as far as pointing out the grammatical errors, everytime i hear "es sieht nicht nach Regen aus an diesem Abend" i just have to laugh, no one talks like thats ^^

You should look at the note. It is something that combines a tablet and a phone.

One of the biggest short comings of tablets right now is the lack of being able to use a stylus. For many things I would love to have one. Big time for taking notes or writing things down. In those things a stylus is just by far better. For basic navigation yeah the finger is great.

IF there is a 'lack', I think the "lack of being able to use a 'stylus'" is down to the newer screen technologies and going in a direction that makes touch with a finger so much better than it ever was.

If Samsung is using a stylus-type 'pen', it causes me to doubt that their screens in this device are capacitive at all? If not, they are going to be a fail for fingers. We are right back to primitive touch screen technology that I can find on any petrol pump or ATM machine. Samsung may be compromising the finger experience on their Note and falling back on old stylus technology. In any case, they obviously can't get the levels of accuracy and dynamic prediction and interpretation (software) on touch events for fingers, that Apple gets on its devices.

But as far as their being a lack of opportunities to use a good pen on the iPad, that just isn't true: there are loads of great apps, including: Skitch by Evernote (which annotates images just as the Samsung ad), all kinds of note and whiteboard apps, all kinds of mind mapping apps, all kinds of art and sketching apps...

If you want a good capacitive touch pen for the iPad, there are a number. For greater accurach, though, check out the Jot by Adonit which uses a clear disc at the end.

Which is funny, because I have normal sized suit trousers that fit my Note just fine.

...and it doesn't cause you to goose-step?

eBay iPad stylus. If you really want a stylus you can get one

Not the same thing. Doesn't matter what kind of stylus the third parties make- if the screen itself isn't pressure sensitive a la Wacom tablets then it'll be mostly pointless.

I can still walk and sit perfectly normally with the Note in my pocket.

Riiiiiight. So, when Apple makes a good decision it is their decision, but when they make a bad one it is somebody else's fault.
The lemmings commercial, and even the 1984 one, could easily be construed as attacking the users.

The 1984, definitely not. The "Lemmings" commercial: Well, if someone says Apple would never have done anything as bad as Samsung, they are wrong. "Lemmings" is proof. However, "Lemmings" is also proof that attacking the users of the competitor is a very, very bad idea indeed.

As with many other commercials, I HAVE to ask:

Who writes this stuff?

But even more incredible:

Who approved this?

So much facepalm.

It's the same guy who told Samsung's designers: "I know you think you could design a nice tablet. I know how proud you are of your nice TV designs. But this is just too risky. We _must_ copy the iPad. "

I hate noisy commercials. I actually hate every commercial, but the ones that scream to you what to buy, what to think and what to do are the worst.

Oh and gospel..

Seeing that there is 13 pages regarding this commercial, I'm hoping somebody can answer my question.

Who exactly is this commercial geared towards? Nothing about it screams "I need this phone/tablet"

I like these latest Samsung ads. They remind me of the "PC vs Mac" commercials Apple used to run. This one in particular was a bit over-the-top, but it certainly pushes the product well.

ok that was a fairly crappy advert.

HOWEVER it is better than the previous Samsung Note advert...which, was unfathomably bad.

I of course refer to this one

I mean seriously Samsung, if even YOU can't work out, what the hell the device is that you are trying to sell us..then you probably need to look at what you are doing.

Also..whats the protagonists 'idea'?...to take well known global landmarks, uproot them..and arbitrarily place them against a piece of undisclosed shoreline that ONLY EXISTS IN HIS HEAD????

Tablet / Phone ? - A better tagline would have been

"Insane James Bond Villain with ability to steal landmarks? Why not buy a Galaxy note"

Maybe depends on your use. Somehow I don't think artists are going to pick up the Note in droves, though there are good examples of art created on the iPad already.

If this Samsung Note has hundreds of levels of pressure sensitivity like my 1998 Wacom tablet, I would be surprised.

If it does have screen pressure, then I would be surprised if it had BOTH that AND the kind of capacitive grid underlying it that Apple has developed to get accuracy for MultiTouch computing.

IF it DOES have both, then I would think a compromise is being made somewhere.

IF it really IS so wonderful that it does everything amazingly well, then it means Apple is waiting to perfect another piece of the puzzle.

And, no, the screen doesn't have to be pressure sensitive: the pen could take care of that, by being a smart pen; or some other means could be developed and refined (such as some of the demos with iPad apps that show use of acceleration).

He was wrong.
The tech is better suited for a device capable of both inputs.
Why not?
And there is usually a slot for the stylus. It's pretty hard to loose it. And even if you do, get another. They are cheap as dirt.

Ok , write a letter with your finger on an iPad. Then try it with a pen and paper. This really shouldn't be so hard to understand.

and why would anyone choose to write a letter on an iPad when you can type on it? This is a pointless example of why a stylus is useful.

2012 and still using plastic fake pens ? no thanks, if I want to use a pen or pencil I will but only on paper where it creates art or writes up something. These days no one writes letters in pen much anymore anyway...but I guess writing out birthday cards etc is still doable haha.

...except that Samsung's USA phones are just AWFUL.

I've had 3 of them, and I just can't STAND them. Before I even get near the awful TouchWiz UI or anything, Samsung USA has to make their beautiful products be turned to GARBAGE. Don't believe me? Here's the original Samsung Galaxy S II:

Pretty good looking phone, right? It's quite nice. NOW, Here's the Samsung Galaxy S II that hit T-Mobile once Samsung USA got their hands on it:

T-Mobile-Samsung-Galaxy-S-II-official-launch-date.jpg

Grody, Nasty, it looks like they even forgot to add the buttons in when they redesigned it!

Another example of Samsung USA just screwing everything up, the Original Galaxy Note:
samsung-galaxy-note-lead.jpg

And now our US Galaxy Note:
samsung_galaxy_note_att.jpg

The addition of those buttons just RUINS the device's flow. The device is actually smaller than the original. Just poor craftsman work too.

2ndly, there's the just terrible TouchWiz UI. I don't have much Smartphone experience with it, but I have had enough feature phone experience with it that makes me want to just run over them with a truck, and I have heard that TouchWiz on the smartphones and tablets is no better.

I love Samsung products like their TVs and SOME of their phones (Like the Original Galaxy S II and ORIGINAL Galaxy Note, but the US versions are just TERRIBLE design), but I probably won't own a Samsung phone for a while after this crap-fest I own now.

I'm not a fanboy of ANY type. I love all phones (If I had to pick a side of Phone OSes to be on, I'd have to pick Windows Phone 7 to be honest), but this is just....not cool.

Why would people be waiting in lines to get an iPhone 4S in February 2012 when it came out in October 2011?

Way to stay relevant Samsung.

Also if I wanted a stylus I'd just buy one. They have ones that work on all capacitive touch screens not just their magical behemoth. I choose not to use one because my finger is a much better pointing device.

But to be fair, I think the Apple iPad is still the best tablet

True, Android is years ahead of the iPhone and Mac OSX as an OS is starting to eclipse (again), but the Apple tablets are still much easier to use.

Try an Android device. I recently switched to Android from IOS. The buttons are not that ugly and really make things easier and faster.

So you assume because I don't like a phone's design (because admit it, that T-Mobile phone is so unslightly) I have never used the phone's OS and I hate all phones that run that OS?

I have. I'm very experienced with Android. I'm not saying the buttons are BAD, but I'm talking about how POORLY the design was executed. They could have easily gotten the buttons on without changing the design at all. If I got a GSII, I'd get a euro import, but I really don't like Samsung much, mobile-wise. The buttons are useful, it's just HOW the design executed them.

In Contrast, here's a phone that has the buttons in a really nice form, that goes well with the phone's design:

motorola-droid-razr2.jpg

Flows with the design, fits the theme of the device, overall well executed.

EDIT: Have you used the original Samsung Galaxy S II? It still has the buttons you know.

samsung-galaxy-s-ii1.jpg

The center button acts like a home button, just like the iPhone (hmmm, I see more of a ripoff than I originally thought). There's a button on the side for search.

If I were to get a Samsung GSII, I wouldn't get the US versions at all. If they would just, bring the EU design to the US (and put it on Verizon) instead of junking it up with horrid design cues (THE BUTTONS COULD EASILY FIT. NO NEED TO MAKE IT LOOK HORRIBLE! D: ) then I would strongly consider one, because Spec-Wise, it IS a good phone, but I'm not compromising and getting an eyesore.

Maybe not the best ad, but I do think apple has become too much of a religion. So it's good if other companies start poking them. Well in the end the best products shall win. I know apple makes great products, but I don't like the religious hype around apple, which sometimes seems to take away peoples objectivity.

"WTF:mad:, i cant find the stylus! now the NOTE is useless":p

next big problem............Coming soon............. to a Samsung customer service near u, do they have one?

You don't HAVE to use the Stylus. It's still a multitouch capacitive screen.
