Forget fanboism for a moment and ask, what the hell did Samsung bring to the game in that commercial? Nothing.
Apple haters call us Apple fanboys sheep or some variation, but guess what. All these companies want us to be their sheep.
Sammy did nothing to interest me in that galaxy note.
Sammy is just another huge, tech dumper. They have so much crap on the market it ain't even funny.
Nokia, just a few year ago, had like 160 different cell phones. I remember going to their website back in 2005 and being blown away at all the sh** they had from mediocre phones to full blown smart phones. Then iPhone came out. iPhone is everything ALL of those Nokia phones were but rolled up into one phone.
Samsung is the same way. And when that Apple tv come out , Sammy is going to sh** bricks.

Forget reading the last 433 posts. This guy has accurately summarised the whole topic. For to long Nokia et al have confused and alienated their customer base with pointless model variations for years and years. This is why I got my iPhones in the first place. Simplicity and efficiency. No bull.

I also agree with the Apple TV comment too. And I have a Samsung D8000 Smart TV! It's to do with what works in the real world. And what "says it will work". If IPhones were sold purely on hype alone. They'd soon be going down the Nokia Swanee.

Samsung produce some great stuff. But a lot of it is plagiarised Apple gear.

If imitation is the sincerest form of flattery then Apple should be feeling pretty chuffed. They've nowt to worry about unless they cock up future product promotion through bad market research ( and that could happen with the Apple TV yet). Otherwise they lead where others follow at present.

In a way Samsung is biting the hand that fed- as it were.

Apple has simply to keep reminding it who's the master- by keeping it on an even shorter leash :)

I've been in advertising for 32 years and can tell you that the "kids" at the agency that produced this video missed the mark big-time. Did they conduct any research? Doubtful. It doesn't take a genius to know that a spot like this isn't going to convert an iPhone user. I can only surmise that their target audience are those considering the purchase of a smartphone.

Actually shows what a foolish company Samsung is.

Do you seriously believe people will buy a product based on this.

Yeah it sounds like some ppl are suggesting the negativity towards the ads here will somehow translate into sales..lol. another mediocre phone that'll be outdated in a month when Samsung or another android oem releases another phone (which also won't sell)

Nice

I thought it was a decent ad, much better than their previous attempts. If it were shorter, say 40 seconds, it would have more punch. Definitely humorous and memorable even though it doesn't promote the Galaxy Note features that well. :(

Are you serious right now? The first Android phone with a front facing camera was released in late 2010!!!! WAY LATER THAN THE IPHONE 4!!!!

The Samsung Galaxy S was released on June 2010 and it had front facing camera, the Dell Streak, released also on June 2010 had a front facing camera

Didn't Apple do the same thing in Mac vs PC ads? You guys act like anyone who teases Apple is wrong while Apple can do it and its always right.

I love apple products, but Steve was wrong about the Stylus. They're essential for writing. Fingers are good for pointing, not for precision.
A stylus certainly beats your finger for writing, but a keyboard beats them both to a pulp. The real question is whether enough people need an alternative between the finger-touch pads and the laptops.

Personally I believe a predominantly stylus based OS with a series of devices might have a shot at at least carving a nice niche, but Android is not that OS and Samsung's scattershot approach means they are unlikely to be the company really attempting something like this.

I think the whole premise of the commercial hits right where they want it.

"Why wait, the next big thing is already here"

They are trying to raise awareness that their product is as good or better. Like many people have said, this likely won't win over any fanboy/girls that wait in a long line for days... but for the general public, which in large part are not smartphone owners, they will likely have a curious hmmmm.

For instance, while watching the game there were 14 iPhone users in the house. I was the only one with Android, but I also have a iPhone for work. When that commercial came on a lot of people were very curious about the device. They all laughed at the commercial, because none of them have ever waited in line for a iPhone. They all thought that was stupid.

They would never switch(my family member especially), but they got the intent of the commercial.

Didn't Apple do the same thing in Mac vs PC ads? You guys act like anyone who teases Apple is wrong while Apple can do it and its always right.

Wrong. And therein lies the difference between these ads.

"Mac" never made "PC" look stupid. Both personalities we made to be likable, and the viewer liked them. It was the features comparison, or lack thereof, of lack of usability that was always highlighted, with "PC" feeling bad at the end.

The Samsung commercial was disingenuous with regard to the "Mac" vs "PC" spots. They are most definitely not the same in intent.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; CPU iPhone OS 5_0_1 like Mac OS X) AppleWebKit/534.46 (KHTML, like Gecko) Mobile/9A406)

"Haha, your stupid! Try me" - Samsung

Personally I totally disagree, a predominatly stylus OS is wrong, a finger only OS with an adition of an screen adapted to Wacom style stylus is a godd niche product

So, copying the stylus used 15 years ago on the Apple Newton is supposed to show how advanced they are and sell new products?

Let's be honest. Tablets existed way before the iPad (I used several in the early 90s) but Apple made them cool. No different.

I also have not seen the ad, though I can honestly say I don't care if Samsung tries to insult me. I'm sure they understand that they're going to come across as insulting, and that these sites will talk about it and get a couple dozen pages of threads about it - and that's what they want. It's like the old saying; there's no such thing as bad publicity. People may not like the ad, but they're talking about it - Samsung wins regardless of what you think about their product(s).

That said, I'm perfectly happy to look at Android phones and tablets, but I really haven't seen a single feature that makes me want to switch from my iPhone or iPad. They can come close to the functionality and may even top them in a feature or two. But they do not come close to the entire ecosystem that's in place with Apple. I agree that LTE should only come out when it'll work. What's the point of saying "I have an LTE phone" when the battery sucks (literally and figuratively) and it's not available in your area? It basically boils down to having a meaningless feature that's there just to be able to say you have it.

As for a stylus, I already have ten of them; 5 on each hand. They work quite well, I (hopefully) never lose them, and they were free. I don't need any more, though my bass playing would probably signifcantly improve...:D

Does anybody else think about these ads are directed more toward Android users? Maybe it's an attempt to keep their current customers.

Wow. Some of you just aren't very smart, or are just unwilling to read.

The stylus used on the Note is pressure sensitive and has a fine tip. Thus it works better for drawing or writing. It is not one of those hideous fat tipped non-pressure-sensitive pens that are basically the size of your finger, rendering it completely pointless.

You are about as likely to lose it as the case on your phone, given how there's a slot on the device to hold it when not in use.

No, you do not NEED to use it. You can still use your finger

Your right, didn't read it; I saw the ad. Where in that ad did it show me the above.

Furthermore, how does a case attached to my phone get lost as easy as a stylus? You don't forget to pick up your case after you set it down.

Awesome commrcial

stop hate'n. this commercial is funny. i think some are you are mad bc some of Apple products are being surpassed. i love Apple, but they aren't always the best, even their commercials. ha

Taking the piss out of me for buying an iPhone won't make me buy a Samsung

Who comes up with this garbage....

After watching this advert, I would never by a samsung phone, in fact it puts me of buying ANY Samsung product.

Samsung really do need to stop copying apple and start making their phones look unique. i hope someone from samsung reads this.....

Samsung aired another of its series of Apple-mocking commercials during the 2012 Super Bowl tonight. In this ad, Samsung is pushing the new Samsung Galaxy Note.

YouTube: video
Like the previous ads in the series, Samsung depicts iPhone fans standing in line for the new iPhone, while promoting their own products as the "next big thing".

Samsung's head of marketing has acknowledged she is directly targeting Apple and shooting to reach a more emotional connection with their consumers. The Samsung Galaxy Note that is depicted in the commercial is a 5.3" device which also comes with a stylus. Steve Jobs is famously quoted as saying "if you see a stylus, they blew it."
