Wrong thought then, fingers are a very bad precission stylus

For writing on the screen I can agree with that argument but when most users will never do such an archaic thing why choose that as the big selling point of the Note?

The iPhone and iPad also have styli available if the user wants one.

Got no real problem with them poking fun at apple, if they would only do it in a funny or creative way.

Pointing out that your major competitor is the only company who makes products that people will gladly wait hours in line for must rank amongst the most incredibly stupid marketing decisions I've ever seen.

Well, after "Go Compaaaaaaaare"...

Because the Note is a niche product and is targeted to people that wants or needs an stylus?

And is not only for handwriting, painting also needs a precission stylus

The iPhone and iPad also have styli available if the user wants one.

But they don't have the wacom digitizer integrated on the screen like the note has.

When I think of Android manufacturers - I think of two companies first. Samsung and Motorola. Yes - there's HTC and others. But ultimately - both Samsung and Motorola are doing the big advertising (at least here in the US).

Androids marketshare is decent. So If Samsung can (with one or many device) grab the majority - they'll do just fine. With or without going after Apple.

To each their own. I own several Apple products (iPod Touch, iPad, iMac, MacBook Pro, 2 Apple TVs) and until last week - used (I still own it) an iPhone 4. I picked up the Samsung Skyrocket last week to try something new. Something different. And all the downvoting I'm sure to get - the hate against Android and other devices seems rather silly. So far I honestly love my new phone. Now maybe I'm not some power user that can see every difference between the iPhone (of which I've owned for a few years) and my Skyrocket. There was a minimal learning curve. There are a few things I miss from the iPhone (nothing's a deal breaker). There are a few things I love more about Android/the phone than I did about iOS and the iPhone.

In short - I personally feel a lot of the hate is simply territorial. At least for me - there's not enough of downside to either platform to warrant any animosity. Both are great and have their pluses and minuses.

But for the record - here's my "list"

Battery life - About the same I was getting on iOS 5. Instead of coming home at night with ~20-30 percent (iPhone), I come home with ~15%. Either way I need to recharge every day

Screen - Both are great and easily readable in all conditions I have experienced.

UI - just different. I'm enjoying the newness of Android (for me). A few things to get use to as far as where/how to access things. But I don't find it laggy, buggy, etc any more/less than my iPhone was.

Apps - most of the apps I use or need to use are available and work pretty much the same. No complaints.

My one and biggest "gripe" was setting up contacts. Since you sync with a gmail account, you don't initially have an option to turn OFF contact syncing. And I have far more gmail contacts than I wanted in my phone book. I keep my phone book separate. So I had to jury rig a solution which took a few steps.

I'll stop there. Most of the people reading won't/don't care and I'd prefer not to throw this thread too much into a non sequiter. I was hesitant to switch. I opted to NOT trade in my iPhone 4 because I wanted something to fall back on (and I also have some apps, etc that I still enjoy). But so far - I won't be taking advantage of any 30 day return policy on the Skyrocket...

Different strokes for different folks.

Again... you're confusing an OS with a device.
Android is not a phone, it's an OS. ;)

The only difference between the RAZR and the RAZR Maxx is the battery.
Both are on the market right now.
Also, neither of those products will be sold by any other carrier than Verizon and Moto has no plans to make a GSM version of either them, so that pretty much killed it.

The Note is a niche product. I get it, it's a hybrid phone/tablet.
That alone will limit its audience.
The one thing everyone seems to over look is that Apple offers a one size fits all approach. Ok they offer different storage capacity... yawn.

Companies that make Android based products offer consumers a choice of features. Something that may be ridiculous to some may be just what another is looking for in a phone.
Choice is good.
Put away the illogical nonsense that the iPhone is the only phone or that Apple is the only innovative company in the world.
It's pure BS and anyone who says otherwise is firmly stuck in RDF land.

Yet some how Apple is keeping toe to toe with all the Andriod based phones. Choice is good, but at the end of the day people want everything handed to them. They don't want to have to think about features and specs and Apple has proven this time and time again.

The iPhone and iPad also have styli available if the user wants one.

This is something people need to stop saying.

1 pressure sensitivity stylus that is roughly the same size as your thumb is not what the NOTE provides.

The commercial was terrible because it didnt actually emphasize anything about samsung's products that set it apart from an Iphone. All it did was poke fun and then go into some crazy music video rendition of a laughable one hit wonder 90's song (that is now stuck in my head).

I think this is why everyone is going "a stylus? WHY?". The stylus on the Note is reportedly 250+ presure points of sensitivity. This is a huge deal for note taking, and other "Drawing". Though, I Think 4.3" is a little on the small side to be really productive for this idea.

As I said previous, One of the biggest Ommissions of the Ipad was not providing the tech for a multiple point of precision stylus.

Obviously got the attention of the Apple fans.

Great job Samsung.

:D

Before you dismiss Samsung as caving to low level of advertising, think about Apple's "PC vs Mac" campaign.

Wow, so much hatred for a phone that is offering its users the choice of using a Stylus. I'm betting that if Steve Jobs hadn't said what he said about them, most of you wouldn't care, however many Apple fans have a habit of instantly adopting Steves opinions as their own by default.

Just because Steve didnt like the stylus, doesnt mean it doesnt belong. If this were the case why is there a thriving 3rd-party stylus market for the iPad/iPhone?

It's amusing to see how aggressive some people are being towards choice. I'm sure there will be many people who will buy this phone, many of those people will use the stylus for accurate sketching or hand note-taking. Or some may even use it just for more accurate navigation of the touchscreen (instead of trying to press small links on websites with pudgy fingers).

If you don't like or want it, don't ridicule the company or the people using the device, there is a market for it, people do want it. Be happy that people have a device that suits them, and stick with the device that makes you happy, and really. Grow up.

Really? Thanks, Sherlock. Of course the people on these boards know that, but this is a discussion of Apple and related products. So why dont you stop wasting people's time posting on a message board and go participate in things that are far more important....

I am not so sure people do. Getting a bit defensive, are we?

You must either have a very large stylus or incredibly tiny thumbs :D

and oddly, for some reason my thumbs, especially on my right hand never seem to work on touch screen devices! I honestly cannot explain it. Every other finger works great, But if i try using my thumb, no register most of the time!

Great samsung - Win people over by basically insulting potential customers by

1. Showing how stupid they are by ever wanting and queuing popular competition's product is with massive queue and sales

2. Into switching to your different different type of product by showing all the innovative features like drawing a circle... like you can do with your um..Finger...

3. Then dance around a bit.

You should look at the note. It is something that combines a tablet and a phone.

One of the biggest short comings of tablets right now is the lack of being able to use a stylus. For many things I would love to have one. Big time for taking notes or writing things down. In those things a stylus is just by far better. For basic navigation yeah the finger is great.

http://www.macworld.com/article/164440/2011/12/macworld_buying_guide_ipad_styluses.html

Thre are plenty of styli for iPad.

Wow!

The Samsung Note is actually a pretty unique product. The "stylus" is a Wacom style RF pen. I *wish* Apple came out with an iPad that has this. Actually... I hope Microsoft puts this in a Windows 8 Tablet... with Microsoft One Note. One Note is a true "Killer App" for tablets... if they include a pen like the Note has. Bash away!

I'm not going to buy a Note (i have no need for one) but it's my understanding that the difference is that the Note uses a Wacom digitizer for more responsiveness and accuracy.

I've tried to use styluses with my iPad, buying multiple models (even a $45 one), but they all didn't have the responsiveness and accuracy I needed/wanted. It was a pain to use, actually. I ended up switching back to the use of a laptop or pen/paper for those activities I initially envisioned using an iPad/stylus for.

I don't know why so many people take Steve Job's words/opinions as their own, dude flip flopped a lot depending on what the market looked like and you know there was something off about a guy that wore the same thing every day, genius in some aspects, complete weirdo in others
