Don't these ads fall pretty flat considering the spectacular sales of the iPhone 4s and iPad? The phones are selling like hotcakes and people love them, yet they're somehow trying to make fun of them?

And it made sense to run ads with people standing in line when there was a new release from Apple but now that you can just walk in and buy one (or order one online which I suspect is very common) showing a line in the commercials just seems odd.

And a STYLUS for their tablet? Hell no. Android phones are doing fine but other than the Kindle Fire they haven't cracked tablets yet and this looks like another flop.

Awesome!

Wow...what's that a stylus? You mean like in the 90's?! Awesome!

let's wait for version 2.0 of the product where the "hot" new feature will be a monochrome display.

Pathetic.

You belie your case here. Correct, styluses are nothing new, which is why people are laughing AT the Samsung ad and phone. Samsung is acting like it stumbled upon a new concept.

But more to the point, I seriously doubt many will be lining up for this phone, but I bet Samsung wishes people would, in which case it wouldn't be making fun of people lining up for new product.

We all have our own views, Apple's iPhone will begin a downward spiral and other's whether it be Samsung or HTC will come up with better.

Its called competition and I love watching companies go at it, along with the people that bleed Apple.

Getting time that people uplug

Just going to point out FaceTime rip off of other products. Android already had video chatting before facetime. Just figure I would point that out to you.

It isn't the What. It is the How. Smartphones existed before the iPhone. Multitouch existed before the iPhone. But How they worked to service the user? This is where the magic is.

I usually like the funny ads and thought their last one was funny. This is had all of us scratching our heads. What was the product again? What a waste of money....

The essence is what is a smartphone going to do for you.

Well, the thing is, that I'm just sooo used to the iPhone's interface and most likely will stick to that OS and iPhone devices. I'm already wanting to get the iPhone 4S, a big jump from the second generation iPhone 3GS. I used it heavily in all aspects, note taking, voice recording, photography, videography, etc. So I'm quite familiar with all it's functionality and been very happy with it. I wouldn't want anymore more than that.

So, and being open minded that I am, I have tried using other phone devices at length and yes, ANYTHING requires learning how to use the new OS, be it Android or Black Berry, etc. I'm not as naturally mechanically /technically inclined. I personally don't want to take anymore time to relearn a new smart phone device and all the DIFFERENT functionalities it would have than iPhones, and it suites me QUITE perfectly.

Anyone just getting into smart phones will have a learning curve even with the iPhone. And it'll all depend on either someone giving or selling a earlier generation phone to someone else and learning on that plat form or one has done enough research to know what they want to use the phone for and for whatever. It should not be what the world wants and following that. If it works for you, more power to you. I have a high school best friend who has an Android smart phone. He's a programmer, he's a PC (Windows 7 Pro) user, I respect him for his talent and he is technically inclined to know how to handle his PC related situations. Bottom line it's what and how you want and need to use your smart phone for. It's going to be part of your life.

Yeah what was it, $3.5M for a 30-second spot...horrible waste of money on an ad that showed it's main "feature" as a stylus...the rest was people screaming and dancing...

Just ordered one. For me the stylus is a non issue. The screen size is what I'm after.

I'll post back after a few days with it. I love my IP4, so the bar is set very high...

I figure I have 30 days to decide whether to send it back, or Ebay my IP4.

Ooh, I would like to see.

Indeed. My father has a 4S after switching from a Bold 2 & Torch (work made him do it; WP7 was not certified, no BES plugin on the exchange server, iPhone was the corporate choice). He enjoys it, but laments his reduced productivity (and, as a heavy phone & bluetooth user, he wishes he didn't have to charge his phone multiple times a day).

He's used to the blackberry. He's used to a physical keyboard (he's adjusting, albeit slowly). He's used to one way of doing things. And that's one of the reasons why the patent war in the smartphone world is so bitter. It's a booming market and a lot of people getting smartphones are getting their first. A lot of people stick with what they know, so being the first smartphone experience for someone is critical.

I love how everybody keeps saying "no lines for Samsung" - well that might be because they are sold at many many many many more outlets than Apple. They still get lines on opening days - it's just 6 or 8 people at some stores. If apple sold their products at more stores - there would be less lines - just common sense people. In my area alone - there is 1 Apple store - but i bet there are a hundred stores i could go get a Samsung device. Not saying one is better than the other - just saying all this crap about Samsung having no lines is not a comment on how well they sell. Just like saying Apple having lines is not a comment on how well IT sells.

Completely False Advertising!

Samsung is using false advertising here. Didn't they see Apple's financial results? Those lines in front of the Apple store are waaaaay too short.

Not sure why Apple's competitors are hell-bent on staying with old tech. Recall Ballmer scoffed at the iPhone "because it doesn't have a keyboard."

Anyway, to those poking fun at the lack of a stylus for the iPad/iPhone, there is a stylus for the iPhone and iPad - it's called the index finger. ;)

I think it's pretty obvious that no Samsung phone gets lines like that across the hundreds of stores combined...now we're arguing that?

Probably not the kind of attention they wanted. :p

All due respect, I doubt that they are targeting those people who have multiple Apple devices, have iPhones, etc... they're targeting people who aren't enamored with the iPhone (they exist?!?!? :D I will note as an Android user I've seen more Android users go to iPhone than the other way, but I have seen iPhone -> Android occur) and people who don't have an iPhone yet. Samsung is trying to play up that, hey, Apple isn't the only company that offers new products that do things differently.

I doubt most individuals here are the individuals Samsung is trying to reach.

I have no doubt you thought Apple blew it when they were attacking Vista in those Mac vs PC commercials.

Good point, no one's pointed that out yet.

"I'm a mac and I'm a PC". A PC computer! not a PC user. That's the whole joke

the ads focused on PC's being unreliable. They did not directly mock PC users. At most they called PC's uncool, which is not a direct insult to PC users.

There's a big difference.

Another big difference is that the Mac vs. PC commercials were good

Its not the same. Samsung will NEVER have the cult following Apple has and their jealously shows in these adds.

Samsung are more than welcome to open their own stores. They definitely sell produce enough products.

Funniest thing in that ad is when you see them trying to hold the thing one hand, there is a woman really stretching just to hold it in one hand, you can see the white of her knuckles about to go into a cramp :D. The S2 is too big IMO, these things are just awful, learn from that big arse dell streak POS, bigger is most definitely not always better.

You should look at the note. It is something that combines a tablet and a phone.

One of the biggest short comings of tablets right now is the lack of being able to use a stylus. For many things I would love to have one. Big time for taking notes or writing things down. In those things a stylus is just by far better. For basic navigation yeah the finger is great.

you do know they sell stylus' for any tablet if you wanna use one.
