Not sure why so many people are disagreeing with you. This is a fact that can't really be disputed. I have an iPhone but still keep my Windows Mobile 6 device around for just this reason. While touch is certainly faster and more intuitive, there are apps out there that are better with a stylus, period. (As an example, I have WM6 app that allows you to look up Japanese words by drawing them; can't do that on an iPhone).

The iPhone does have kanji input.

I wonder if South Korea would allow foreign companies to run similar ads in South Korea poking fun at Korean products? Adverts like that would never get approved by the local media to be shown to the locals in South Korea.

So were they poking fun at Microsoft or at PC users? I didn't get it, man!

Neither - the "bloat" ad was poking fun at the vendors who put all the trial software on the systems.

But, splitting hairs about whether a particular ad is making fun of the user, Microsoft or PC vendors is missing the point. Humor can be a very broad brush that's hard to pinpoint.

Does this Hyundai ad imply that Hyundai owners are adulterers?

You ask a question, and then answer it yourself. Proof of your claim?

Yap, because the OP was talking about features, no?

Who is the OP according to you?

So what was your point? Horace528 disapproved of making fun of a company in an ad, and you answered with Apple's ad. Why?

So just to recap, a processor that is already bested by other phones, a camera that every other phone has, an OS version that is over a year old and probably wont get updated to ICS for 6 months, minimum, oh and a stylus. Funny how this is a marginal upgrade, but people are wowed by it. I get a hunch, it won't do as good as the 4S...call me crazy.

I think he was talking about the people I said were complaining about the ad because it lacks showing features.

And BTW, if you had no idea what Budweiser was (say you moved to the USA from a foreign country that didn't sell Bud or something), that frog ad would tell you nothing.

And if even if you knew what Bud was, according to the line of thought of those I was addressing, Bud would have to talk about the hops and malts used, calories, style of beer, etc...

haha

Well, to be fair it doesn't have to do well, it just has to be a stopgap until next month's stopgap for next month's stopgap... ;P

Well, you can use your fingers too.

To not make yourself look like an ignoramus, watch this.

I've handled a Note in-person too, S-Pen works (keep in mind, it's not a regular capacitive stylus, it works like a Wacom tablet thus you get pressure sensitivity) as well as my fingers.

I know why some people despise Apple fanboys, ignorance.

Relax dude - just thought it was funny - the thread was about poking fun right?

Yeah, I think I overreacted to. Never mind...

Well, the rest of the world got the Note in November-December 2011. The international Note has the superior Exynos SoC. Snapdragon on the LTE Note is meh.

So the US gets 2011 tech in 2012...the disadvantages of tight carrier control.

This is true. It's just one of the dozens of phones that Samsung will release this year which will all combined barely outsell one model of the iPhone haha.

A stylus may not have worked in the 90s and even in the early 2000s but neither did tablet PC’s. I wish I had one for the ipad at times and even ordered a few crapy ones from ebay. They just aren’t precise due to the iOS design.

a good rule of advertising is spend less time on marketing your brand and more time marketing the product. Samsung fails at that.

This is a common criticism I keep seeing on these forums. People think the ad was a fail because it really didn't show what the device is capable of doing. I'm not too sure if thats needed though.

VW's teaser ad didn't have anything to do with cars.

For those of you who remember the Budweiser frogs or the Wazzup ads... some of those ads had nothing to do with beer.

Yeah, I remember how I puzzled about the functionality or lack thereof of these beers.

I hope it's clear now

The iPhone does have kanji input.

Yes, it has handwriting input for kanji, but that involves using the Chinese keyboard. One would have to constantly switch between the romaji/10key input and the handwriting method to input kanji, hiragana and kana. Not exactly efficient.

Let me correct you:

So just to recap, a 5.3" 720p Super AMOLED touchscreen, an Exynos processor that is capable of uncompressed 1080p output and processing/displaying/outputting 720p MKVs natively, a camera that has been proven to be of decent quality, an OS version that is over a year old and will be getting ICS within the next two months, maximum, oh and a pressure sensitive stylus a la Wacom.

If you want to talk about 'marginal upgrades', take a look at the 3G and 4S. The 3G added a new housing, 3G and GPS. The 4S added Siri, a dual-core processor (which was already 6 months old by the time it came out) and a slightly better camera (and no, don't tell me it has 'all new optics' and a 'large new sensor'- I have a seven-year-old Sharp cameraphone that takes better pictures)

Call me crazy, but those seem like fairly marginal upgrades to me.

Oh, and regarding your statement about the ICS update...

wont get updated to ICS for 6 months, minimum,

...yeah. Not sure how January to the end of Q1 2012 = 6 months, because I was taught in primary school that one quarter of 12 [months] is 3, but, uh, maybe they teach mathematics a bit differently where you live?

For myself and probably many others, the appeal of the Note is probably the large screen, not the stylus. I could care less about the stylus, unless of course developers make new apps that call for it. If I receive my Note and it sucks, it goes back, but I haven't seen a reviews by objective tech reviewers who say anything but how nice the Galaxy note is.
It's a shame so many here can't be a bit more objective.

We all have a choice. Not all of us are blind followers. I love my iPhone, but I still am open to new products. Just look at all the Blackberry users who swore they would never use anything else. Apple came along and changed all that. Is it possible that eventually Apple won't be the crowd favorite? WHo knows. Apple can spend years making silly commercials poking fun at Windows, and 1 commercial by Sammy stir all this up?

All I gotta say is that we should be grateful that companies keep trying to outdo each other with exciting new features. If it weren't for competition, the IP4 may not even be what it is today right? Apple , like any company wants to stay at the head of the pack, and to do so they need to innovate.

How do you know?

Read further down that post and you'll find this:

It is currently early February. The end of Q1 is March. Assuming it takes Samsung until the very last day of March, it would still be less than 2 months.

Hey! and it comes with a pen, too! Just like my circa 2001 Palm Pilot, cool.

Cue Huey Lewis and the News "I Gotta Get Back In Time......."

As someone who would very much like to have a more pen-like input device for digital sketching, this doesn't strike me as a very effective ad. The strength of a stylus as a marketing gimmick is questionable as is. Here they don't even really convey the advantage this device has has over using a run-of-the-mill capacitive stylus.

The stylus is a pressure sensitive wacom stylus and the screen actually works with other wacom styli. But the note-taking/sketching app that comes with Touch-wiz is the only app that supports it. So, it's basically useless.

I trust Autodesk for producing good sketch apps, but NOT Samsung. ha.
