Are apple defense force really stupid to figure out that the phone is actually intended to be both phone/tablet?

That is where the stylus comes into use.

Pull your head out of your for ass once, you will enjoy life more.

:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

Then it runs better and faster. One of the points you brought up about the iPhone was the faster processor- if you think it's a stupid selling point then don't bring it up yourself.

Way over your head...I don't think it's a stupid selling point. My point was when the iPhone had a new processor, people called it a marginal upgrade. The Note has a processor that is already bested by other phones and people are acting like it's so amazing. Be objective.

Did you even read my reply to your previous post?

Here's a link: https://forums.macrumors.com/posts/14282827/

It explains that the GN will be getting ICS before the end of next month, with evidence from Samsung themselves.

LOL. Yes, and we all know how Samsung puts out timely updates for its devices.....some samsung handsets got Froyo like 5 months ago...Samsung can say whatever they want, until it actually comes out it doesn't mean anything.

How is it irrelevant? You mentioned upgrades to the phone, you never stated 'upgrades to the operating system only'.

Because it has nothing to do with Android. That's why it's irrelevant. The iPhone will have LTE eventually, it's not like its an Android technology and its not like other phones haven't had LTE since 2Q last year .

Hey, I thought you iPhone people said that processors and ram didn't matter, and what really matters is how well the device runs. And I can tell you that my Galaxy Note is every bit as smooth as my 4S, so yes, it is cool.

Processors and RAM don't matter, but to you Android people the 4S was a poor upgrade because "Android phones have quad core soon and 1GB of RAM!" Again...be objective.

See above.

Ditto.

BTW, 2.3.7 (the specific version which the Note currently officially runs) is less than half a year old.

LOL, I'm pretty sure that Google doesn't count bugfixes as the release dates for their OS versions. GB came out December 2010. Bug fixes doesn't somehow mean its not running an old OS and having a 0.7 revision doesn't mean you're gaining a crapload of functionality. The major version is over a year old.

Actually, nobody mentioned the processor until you decided to mention the iPhone had numerous major improvements, such as the processor.

Ok. So where'd you pull the 6 month figure out of? I have facts to back up my '2 months for ICS' statement- or are you just assuming, like how you assumed that you knew everyone who was downranking your posts?

Because it has nothing to do with Android. That's why it's irrelevant. The iPhone will have LTE eventually, it's not like its an Android technology and its not like other phones haven't had LTE since 2Q last year .

As it stands the only phones with LTE are Android powered, hence, it is a relevant point. Get back to me when there's an iPhone with LTE.

Processors and RAM don't matter, but to you Android people the 4S was a poor upgrade because "Android phones have quad core soon and 1GB of RAM!" Again...be objective.

I was being perfectly objective until you mentioned the lack of upgrades to the Note (when compared to what, I have no idea) so I mentioned the faster processor, as I saw that you had done the same thing.

By the way- some Android phones already have 1GB of RAM, including the Note ;)

And yes, a retooled pre-existing application (Siri), a processor pulled from the iPad 2 (which was launched 6 months prior to the 4S's introduction) and a barely improved camera is a poor upgrade.

By your way of thinking iOS5 is slightly under a year old now, seeing as how the original beta was launched way back in 6/11.

And yeah there was some functionality added over the dot updates.

-Video and voice chat for GTalk (2.3.4)
-Added new features to Gmail (2.3.5)
-Added new features to Camera (2.3.5)
-Added Google Wallet support (2.3.7)

And, of course, battery efficiency improvements, bug fixes etc were included with most of the dot updates as expected.

Not a crapload of added functionality, but then again Apple doesn't exactly release a crapload of functionality with their dot updates, do they? They're mostly just updates to stop jailbreakers from making their phones actually functional.

Its very telling of apple fans when the news stories with the most replies are the ones where theyre on the defensive about a competitor.

The apple cult is very real. 875 replies and counting over a commercial from samsung and only 200 about a potentially new chip in macbooks? or 100 about new mac pros.

This is a common criticism I keep seeing on these forums. People think the ad was a fail because it really didn't show what the device is capable of doing. I'm not too sure if thats needed though.

VW's teaser ad didn't have anything to do with cars.

For those of you who remember the Budweiser frogs or the Wazzup ads... some of those ads had nothing to do with beer.

Some of godaddy.com's ads have nothing to do with website domains too.

I think Samsung's ad implied its product is better than the iPhone as all of the people waiting in line got a Note and just had a massive Glee moment. And it generated a lot of buzz... so in that sense, I do think it was successful. If they made it too technical and spec oriented and geeky, I doubt it would have generated much buzz.

And for those making a big deal of the ads insulting users (which I think is debatable) and how Apple would never do such a thing... what about this Apple ad? Seems to say if you don't buy their product, you're a lemming incapable of thinking for yourself (which given this thread's responses is kind of ironic).

You can get away with just branding under one condition and that's if the consumer already sees your product and brand in distinct and positive way. VW is seen as an innovative German engineering company. Budweiser has been doing great super bowl ads for so long that people actually wait for their ads every year. I wasn't waiting for samsungs ads. And lastly godaddy is the only domain company that has a strong advertising presence so they don't need to separate themselves from non existent ad competitors. I'm always seeing android ads from different manufactures, it's a crowded field and it's easy to be drowned out. In a lot of consumers minds Samsung is seen as just a generic electronics company. They haven't really brought anything Innovative to the market to change the phone market, they are always following Apple's lead. To add to that Samsungs biggest competitor right now shouldn't be Apple. They are competing with all the other android devices and with their own phones as well. Most consumers can't separate the android companies from one another. To them they are all the same. When you play an ad like this that doesnt really separate your company from the rest of the android pack you end up promoting your competitors phones as well, because whats the difference Android is Android right. Which is why I said all the android phones always market the same features. This ad failed on so many levels in my opinion.

Phones are tricky business. I use an android phone and Apple computer equipment. The reason I choose an android for my phone is how proprietary they are.

I think the iPhone is WAAAAAY easier to use, and I really do envy it. I would love to have one. However, for my specific needs, I need an android phone. There are just way more apps offered for the Android that are required for my type of business.

No hard feelings toward the iPhone, because I really want one. However, It just won't do what I need it to do.

Disagree. Samsung isn't just a random phone company. They beat out Apple in phone sales at a point last year. They have the most popular phones after the iPhone; they already are on top of the Android phone market.

Plus, by setting their sights on Apple and not other Android phone companies, they're going after what moat people recognize as the leader of smartphones. They're saying, "we don't care about other Android companies cause we're better. We're gonna focus on Apple Because even though they're number one, our phones can take them on."

I agree - the customer doesn't care - they just want the updates.

I think I read somewhere that Verizon was planning or wanted to create their own payment system which is why they were "reluctant" for lack of better work to allow NFC payments. Not sure if that's still the case.

I actually bought a Samsung Galaxy S2 Skyrocket. Which is suppose to get ICS sometime this or next quarter.

Your Galaxy S2 should be screaming fast on ICS compared to Gingerbread. I used a Galaxy S2 with Gingerbread, the software just slows the UI down so much that it was very noticeable coming from a device that does graphics acceleration. I thought that iOS5 running on my iPhone 3GS (which is a slower phone) could still render the UI faster. Not all tasks were faster, but UI rendering was much smoother on my much-older iPhone 3GS. This is not a problem of the Galaxy S2 hardware, its a problem with Gingerbread. ICS can force apps to use the acceleration and its a huge huge difference. Not to mention the nice features in ICS. I'm sure Samsung cannot release that update fast enough for Galaxy S2 users.

why do you spend so much time on an Apple fan site talking about Android? If you are so involved in Android wouldn't you be better off trolling on an Android forum?

I apologize. In a thread about an Android phone, I thought it would be ok to talk about Android. I will PM you the next time I want to make a post to make sure it's ok with you...actually nah I won't....

Sales before ad:

I'm pretty sure it will sell well in North America too

Oh by the way, 881 replies means it affected a lot of people and don't you know the saying that says even bad publicity can be good publicity?

You're right. In the android world 1 million in 4 months is considered a success (of course this is shipped not sold as per Samsung's usual "reporting" of their "sales").

And yeah it'll sell "well" in North America, but of course that depends on your definition of success. iPhone "well"? Not a chance. Every other mediocre android phone on the planet "well"? Probably.

And yeah bad publicity can be good, but bad publicity on an Apple-centric site means nothing. The 881 replies here are not going to translate into sales of the phone. The "success" of the ad depends on sales. Nothing else.

I was simply stating that when the iPhone was announced with a new processor, people here said it was a marginal upgrade. The Note has a processor that phones already have and it's being treated like it's amazing. What's new about the Note? A big screen, and a stylus? Everything else about it is old, so what makes this phone so great?

Ok. So where'd you pull the 6 month figure out of? I have facts to back up my '2 months for ICS' statement- or are you just assuming, like how you assumed that you knew everyone who was downranking your posts?

I pulled it out of the fact that Samsung is notoriously slow in updating their devices (the slowest of all the Android OEMs). I'm basing my facts on what they've actually done, you're basing yours on what they say they'll do.

And about downranking. I hope you're not sitting at home hi-fiving your reflection in the mirror because you got a couple of upvotes. They mean nothing. After I submit this post, I'll downvote myself and upvote yours. Means nothing. Not sure why you think a down/upvote validates what you're saying...

As it stands the only phones with LTE are Android powered, hence, it is a relevant point. Get back to me when there's an iPhone with LTE.

Even if iPhone did have LTE, why is it a relevant point? What's "new" about LTE? The Thunderbolt had LTE way back in 2Q last year. LTE is buggy, available in limited areas and a battery hog. Not exactly a jaw-dropping feature...

I was being perfectly objective until you mentioned the lack of upgrades to the Note (when compared to what, I have no idea) so I mentioned the faster processor, as I saw that you had done the same thing.

I was making a comparison between the reaction to the 4S which had a fast processor and the reaction to the Note which has a fast processor. In the former, it was a "marginal upgrade" in the latter it's an awesome spec. Be objective.

By the way- some Android phones already have 1GB of RAM, including the Note

Yeah, I know, hence my question...why is it so special? The only thing it has different from other android phones is the large screen and the stylus.

And yes, a retooled pre-existing application (Siri), a processor pulled from the iPad 2 (which was launched 6 months prior to the 4S's introduction) and a barely improved camera is a poor upgrade.

Ok so we're in agreement. A retooled OS (Gingerbread), a processor that exists in several other phones already, the same amount of RAM in other phones that exist already, and the same camera in other phones already is not that big a deal. Cool. What are we arguing about again?

By your way of thinking iOS5 is slightly under a year old now, seeing as how the original beta was launched way back in 6/11.

Except GB released in December 2010 wasn't a "beta". It was a full release of a new version of the Android OS. Second, iOS 5.01 (or whatever version they're up to now) doesn't mean that they've been releasing major versions of the OS. It's still iOS5. Trying to say that a .7 revision makes GB a couple of months old is silly...GB is over a year old.

Now, I'm going to downvote my own post, and upvote yours. This is the part where you celebrate...

Well if you want to look it at like that... whats so special about ipad then? its only got a bigger screen.

I never said the iPad was anything special. All I'm saying is it makes no sense to celebrate the Note like it's some amazing device, when all it is is an android phone with a new screen and a stylus.

The 4s had a new OS, a new processor, more RAM, a new camera and Siri and people said it was marginal. How does that work?

you dont think ipad is special, lots of people do. In fact even apple thinks its beyond special, its magical when the only difference it has is a bigger screen and faster slightly faster CPU

Ok cool, so you and I (and apparently TheMacBookPro) are in agreement then? The Note, much like the iPad, is nothing special?

I only have one thing to say:

For Android to make an ad that focuses on iPhone users, is a new low. They don't have much to say about their phones.

Could you imagine Apple doing that?

I understand why people are upset for publicly taunting iPhone users. But everybody already knows...

Well, ...it's Android ugh... they've been under Apple's skirt since the beginning.

Pretty sure sales is what determines an ads success and not 881 replies.

Come on, Voonyx. It's a fun ad, and as the barista dude says, "over the top".

The ad is getting a lot of positive reviews (outside of this thread, of course). Samsung scored a goal during the Super Bowl.

The ad was not intended to persuade those with Apple tattoos on their private parts - it is for "the rest of us".

And 881 replies says that even those with the Apple tattoos noticed....

Umm, Rip van Winkle - did you sleep during the three years of the "Mac vs. PC" ad campaign?

Your beloved apple has already done that kind of commercial...

Please pull your head out of your ass already.

:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

Point taken.

It's actually pretty sad that people will stand in a line for hours. Have they nothing better to do with their lives? :roll eyes

Let me phrase it as I would have:

It's actually pretty sad that people will stand in a line for hours for something that they could order online or pick up the next day with no line.

I could see waiting in line for tickets for a special concert or some super special discount.

But just to get a commodity consumer electronics product a few hours or a day before the masses. No.

The best Super Bowl ad was the Giants players using the iPhone to take pictures of the trophy - enough said.

Well, I only saw one recognizable iPhone.

Even though I mostly buy Apple, I enjoyed this particular commercial. Some of Samsung's YouTube ads are annoying. But I like this marketing scheme, it's funny.

I am open minded...
