By showing "weirdos" using a stick instead of their finger?

I think the ad makes more fun of Samsung.

People queuing outside a store = a bunch of weirdos

I'm sorry, but lining up outside a store for hours or even days is just peculiar.

I agree it's perculier :) it's not the sort of thing im into but if it makes people happy without harming anyone else then rock on :)

That has to be the silliest reply this year. Congratulations :)

Yep. A silly reply to the silliest comment is well deserved.

3 questions:

1. Do we definitely have to use a stylus on the Note, or do we have to chop off our fingers?

2. Is John Hodgman a barista?

3. Why isn't that "flogging a dead horse" picture a built in smilie on these forums?

Why do I want to carry a stick around with a mobile phone? With an iPad sure but a phone nah

Then put it back in its built in holder, or stick it into the box. The point is that you can still use your finger. Nobody is forcing you to use the stylus. Since when was having an option such a bad thing?

Steve and Apple by extension didn't believe in options. You can't blame many people on here who are ardent supporters for not getting the concept of options :)

When it adds to the cost

The AT&T Galaxy Note LTE costs $299 on contract, which is exactly the same as the 32GB 4S. And this is for a device with a hugely larger screen & all the other additional features mentioned like the s-pen.

And off contract? $749- exactly the same again.

What was your point again?

Steve and Apple by extension didn't believe in options. You can't blame many people on here who are ardent supporters for not getting the concept of options :)

Well yes, but there's no harm in trying to show them the light :)

My point again was when it adds to the cost. Things cost. Take them out cost is less. Hope that helps :)

Bluetooth, the expansion connector, the headphone jack and the front camera are also among items that add to the cost, even though not everyone... possibly even only a minority... uses those features.

I use headphones and a Bluetooth keyboard. Expansion port. Not sure on that one , what can I do with that?

I face time. Like the front camera.

My grandmother doesn't need the large hi-def touchscreen- by your way of thinking they should have put in a one-line green backlit screen and large buttons. That would have brought the cost right down.

By the way- I doubt that Samsung would have priced it differently had they not put in the s-pen.

There are many things put in modern mobile phones which many regular users do not need or use frequently, like GPS, or the front facing camera, or Bluetooth. Yet companies still put these in as there is a demand for them from a certain segment of their clientele.

In the same way, Samsung are appealing to those who like to draw on their phones with the S-Pen.

Samsung were able to cram in all of these features and still price it identically to the competitor. It's a pretty impressive feat.

I don't use FaceTime. Does that mean that Apple should have removed the FFC because I don't use that one feature to save money?

This is getting silly. We've gone from using a stick to play with your phone to removing key features that are tied into modern life. I dont get it. Sorry. Time to bow out.

That's an amusing argument. Apple gear tends to be overpriced compared to competitors products.

I'm sure once apple adopts a stylus you'll be using a stick to play with your phone too. You think we're going to be writing on paper forever? Typically narrow minded apple user

The iPad doesn't need to be pressure sensitive to use a stylus. Do a little research and you'll be amazed how many styluses you can buy for the iPad.

What I saw in the Samsung ad can be done with your finger on an iPad. Plus, the Samsung device is too big to carry in your pocket, big enough to be ridiculus to hold up to your face like a phone and too small to do most of the things an iPad can do.

Stupid is as Samsung does.

Um...I don't think you understand what I'm talking about here.

Wacom tablets are pressure sensitive..which means artists can change the width of a paint/pen/pencil stroke just like in real life by the pressure they exert on the stylus.

Why do you want to go backwards? Why don't you write with your finger? Eh because you'd have to wash it all the time and carry around a pot of ink. So a pen pencil makes sense. Narrow minded meh not me :)

Ps... Apple products aren't aimed at poor people.

Your initial statement of 'If god wanted you to use a stylus he wouldn't have given you fingers. ' was pretty damned silly.

No- what we've gone from is a pressure sensitive stylus to draw on your phone to removing features which not every consumer wants. If you believe GPS, Bluetooth and the FFC are tied into modern life, then I suggest you reconsider the way you're living.

It was time for you to bow out when you completely changed the subject of discussion from the practicality of the stylus to cost ;)

What? That response was about as silly as your God-giving-limbs argument.

How does that have any relevance at all? People use pen(cil)s to draw because they have a fine tip and thus can draw a finer line. It has nothing to do with carrying around pots of ink

Narrow minded meh not me :)

You just disproved your 'I'm not narrow minded' statement with the very next statement. Good job!

So are you saying that aiming a product at a richer audience = it's okay to mark it up by more? That has got to be the dumbest argument to the 'Apple = overpriced' statement I have ever seen.

In England a common joke is - use your knife and fork when someone is using fingers. The response usually is something like - if god wanted me to use those he wouldn't have given me fingers.

Obviously the joke didnt come across.

You joined just to post that?

Anyway, the technology isn't old - it's quite new if you'd read the thread. The pen is also optional - use your fingers most of the time, use the pen when you want precision.

As the barista dude said, the ad was "over the top". Intentionally. Silly. Fun. Memorable.

And it's selling Samsung. Again., not any particular phone even though about 10 seconds of the ad mentioned one new model.

No, i joined just to read your response to my post.

The ad is open to interpretation, but after watching it three more times I agree that it was over the top, but it isn't memorable at all. It's contrived and tries way too hard.
It also doesn't have a distinct brand voice. Take out the device and the last bumper and it could have been an ad for Coke - they're fond of grandiose lifestyle ads too.

I don't see how that headline follows from the story which does not even mention Samsung. Pure clickbait.

HAHAHA. The point was Samsung wasn't memtioned for a reason. Spend 3 million dollars on an ad that's not all that memorable to the general public.
