The ekg in the Apple Watch is a good example of innovation. I don’t see how anybody following these two companies says with a straight face Samsung innovates but Apple doesn’t. But if that is your opinion, I feel the personal definition of innovation is at play here. You may like certain features but we can debate whether they are incremental or innovation.
EKG's already existed, Apple did nothing special there, if you really want to get nit picky about what is or is not innovation.

These boards are so pro-Samsung it's ridiculous.

If Apple would have released an almost $2000 phone, they would be ridiculed for it with thousands of posts.
Except the fold doubles as a phone and a tablet. It's not the Galaxy S10 Fold, it's the Galaxy Fold. You're confusing this thread with the other thread.

Apple's innovation has become too focus oriented on one specific thing at a time, which leaves evolution in other areas to a slow crawl like iOS's UI. I'm personally getting sick of good innovation of any given specific thing, only to have everything else basically the same.

Samsung focuses on innovation from most angles at the same pace. Which is why we see constant evolution of the software, hardware, and feature side of things all at once. That excites me more as a tech fan.

that statement is subject to personal opinion. I respect that you prefer android over iOS... But I find it very messy, disorganized and crappy in many ways. I prefer the neatness and cleanliness of iOS.... I had Android for a bit on a note 7 and it absolutely drove me nuts..... Sure there are some things it does a lot better than iOS but overall I just couldn't deal with it.
I respect your opinion, too. Though, I'm curious, which version of Android were you running when you had the device? It's gone through 2 upgraded Android versions on top of what it shipped with, including the dropped of TouchWiz for Samsung's new layer software tech.

It's like me saying iPhones suck because iOS sucks, when my earlier experiences with iOS 4-8 were dismal compared to later releases. iPhones still don't tickle my fancy because I find them limiting. But you won't catch me saying iOS sucks. It just doesn't do what I'd like in a mobile OS.

For what it's worth, the S7/Note 7 were the last of the Galaxy devices that implemented a poor layer over Android.

Evolution of hardware depending may be iteration or innovation. These releases seem more iteration, and I don’t see innovation in Samsung softwares.

Key point - on the Note 7. A device from 2 1/2 years ago that had the notoriously awful Samsung Touch-wiz experience. Pure Android (or lightly skinned Android) has a ton of useful features and is a great overall OS. That being said, I currently run an iPhone XS Max as my daily driver because of the superior app quality and hardware from Apple.

If Samsung had a phone with a lighter Android skin like found on the Pixel lineup, I would've stayed with Android. But oh well.
They do. Samsung Experience. It replaced TouchWiz. S8 performance is snappier than S7. The S7's last upgrade removed TouchWiz and brought in Samsung Experience.

Foldable phone aside, what about these phones are innovative?

Maybe finger print under the display, but does it work? under screen fingerprints so far have been underwhelming.

great designs, good looking devices. not for me, but I'm glad they exist. impressed by their use of ceramic as a material, and their integration of a fingerprint sensor under the screen. I prefer faceID but its impressive that they got the fingerprint thing working none-the-less.

overall, a much better showing than they've had for years!

128gb starting at 900. That’s the way iPhone should be priced. After 10 years with iPhone I may finally switch. Just don’t know if I could do Android though.
What if Apple's next iPhone comes with 256 GB standard?

That’s the big one I notice. Scrolling is NOT smooth! It drives me crazy. Opening an app on iPhone it INSTANTLY responds as soon as you tap the icon. There is a lag on my android devices. There is an actual software difference. iPhone gives priority to all UI inputs. Android places UI inputs in the normal queue. Faster hardware helps, but it’s a fundamental software difference.
iOS 12 places emphasis on startup CPU ramping. As soon as you click or tap on an icon, the CPU ramps up to maximum. iOS 11 and prior work differently.

Though it wouldn't be too hard for Google to implement the same. Also depends on the app, I suppose. Can't compare a banking app to a game, I suppose.

I don't know how true that is anymore. My current phone is Galaxy S9 Plus running the same version of Android these new phones are. Samsung has won me over for now but I'll be watching Apple to see what they come up with next. I'm definitely not a brand loyalist but I do keep my eye on brands that have worked well for me in the past.
It isn't. It's up to the carriers, really. Samsung got the update out months ago. Verizon et al. had their updates ready to go at the end of January, IIRC. TMobile who claims to be the uncarrier carrier just released their Pie update a week ago, and that's after pulling it from the queue for bugs their system had with the update.

Then there's the issue of Qualcomm refusing to offer drivers past 24-36 months and it's why you have problems unlike Apple, who develop their own SoC.

Not sure if it was this one instant or not. However, at work I had a teacher that needed to upload a large video to Onedrive. I had to not only keep Onedrive open, but the screen on. Once the screen went off the upload froze and wouldn't resume. I was reminded why I hate iPhones sometimes lol.

I don't see that as something being out of the ordinary. With android, I have selected over 100 files and clicked upload to onedrive and went on with my day doing other things on my phone while it uploads in the background.

It could be a one off issue, really not sure.
I believe this is an issue with GoPros and iPhones, too. Don't know about Androids, though.

iPhones still don't do split screen....that max is too large to not have that capability that's for sure..........:D
You sure? I'm fairly certain it's possible on the XS Max.

Starting March 8th, the $900 S10 will be the Best-Selling Smartphone "every single day thru the End of the Year" !

I've used a XR since Oct 26th, a 7+ for two years prior to that, & a 6s prior to that ... never owned an Android smartphone, but that's about to change.

The $900 S10, with 8 GB of DRAM & HDR10+ (video) capture & display, looks to be a true Game Changer !

I remember working @ Qualcomm when AAPL released the 5s, with it's register-rich 64-bit A7 processor, & just how shocked Qualcomm & ALL the Android smartphone companies were ... it took them ALL a year plus to recover, with a competitive solution.

If AAPL is NOT ready to immediately respond to what Samsung announced today, they will lose a Good Portion of their Market Share ... Sept it too far away to wait for their next Salvo !

When did this release? The last I used was an S8 which still had touchwiz.

No, you didn't. TouchWiz never shipped with the S8. The last model to ship with TouchWiz was the S7. The first upgrade for the S7 replaced TouchWiz with Samsung Experience. The S8 shipped with Samsung Experience 8.1; Samsung Experience had already been used in other Samsung products up until then. One UI came out just over a month ago to replace Samsung Experience.

This lineup is waaaay cheaper than the iphone lineup if you compare them

s10 is 900EUR for 128gb storage
iphone xs is 1159EUR for 64gb storage
Not to mention VAT is included in those prices. VAT aside, there's still a decent increase in pricing for less.

S8 never had touchwiz..it had the Samsung Experience UX......which is why most people started to enjoy Samsung's software although I never had issues with Touchwiz like others often say. Touchwiz is the reason why both iOS and android have some of its main features...everyone should be thanking Touchwiz for the value it brought to both of the major mobile OS's. Touchwiz still does more than iOS...and thats a shame.
I wished I'd kept reading. Darn you.

Samsung right now is a better all around tech company than Apple. Apple is living solely off of the decisions and deliverables from the last 10 years.

The notch is terrible and the iPhones look ancient already compared to the Android phones from Samsung and Huawei.

Apple is now known for selling overpriced hardware, that's about it.

Yup
It uses Samsung's One UI gestures which are better than the normal Android Pie ones...................Samsung is why Android exists in its current phones and why phonemakers try to remain competitive including Apple and Huawei. You should thank them..............surely
Yup. Samsung had invented many useful features which Google adopted in Android OS later. Pure Android is frustrating compared to Samsung optimized OS.

I bought my wife a XS Max with the 512 GB storage. It's got lag here and there.

That "lag" is caused by a poorly-designed Performance Controller in the A12, which is effectively "the Scheduler" for the processor cores.

It's NOT widely known.

ONLY those developing High-Perf apps know of this issue.

Last time Samsung used Touchwiz as the official name of their interface/UI for a flagship phone was the Galaxy S7 and Note 7 (remember this phone existed then ceased to exist, i will not say why becuz they enjoy saying it all the time on macrumors)........
Yep, and that's before the Nougat upgrade that did away with it. Phone performance was night and day. Up until then my only experience with other Androids were a trial test with LG and Motorola years prior.

The OS still lags.

My conjecture is the phone is not going to be much of a game changer and Apple is not going to lose their market share. Conjectures are fun.

I have to agree I do not see Samsung outselling the iPhone. Apple sell way to many phones to everyday people that don't know tech and just go for the iPhone as it's popular.
